Heavyweight - Ali Adams lost to Audley Harrison by TKO 4 / 10

Heavyweight Audley Harrison (28-5, 21 KOs) scored a forth round TKO Over Ali Adams (13-4-1, 5 KOs). Harrison, 40, made a slow start to the fight and in the first two rounds seemed to have some difficulty in finding his range, as Adams (13-4-1, 5KOs) looked determined to end the fight early. Harrison had a better third round followed with a trademark left hand, followed by a right hook in the fourth, Harrison then launched a flurry of punches and the referee stepped in. It was Harrison’s first fight since the third round TKO loss to David Haye in November of 2010.

Saturday 26 May 2024 - Nottingham Arena, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom

Super middleweight - Lucian Bute lost to Carl Froch by TKO 5 / 12 - time: 1:05 - IBF super middleweight title

Super bantamweight - Carl Frampton beat Raul Hirales on UD 12 / 12 - vacant IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight title

Light middleweight - Erick Ochieng beat A.A Lowe by UD 10 / 10 - BBBofC English light middleweight title

Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) pulled off a huge upset by stopping previously undefeated, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KO’s) in the 5th round to capture his International Boxing Federation 168 pound title at the Nottingham Arena, Nottingham, UK. The fight was halted in the 5th with Froch hitting a badly hurt Bute at will with heavy shots. With this win Froch became a three time world champion. Bute could do very little in this fight against the stronger looking Froch, because the Romanian’s left uppercuts and hard body shots failed to slow Froch down even for a moment. Bute’s punishment started in the 3rd round from some hard right hands from Froch, then continued in the forth as Froch had Bute badly hurt up against the ropes and was really working him over, Froch came charging out in the 5th and connected with a big left-right combination. He then cornered Bute and landed some big uppercuts and hard right hands until the referee halted it. Time was 1:05. Note: There is a rematch clause for a return bout in Montreal.

Cote dropped Lloyd twice in round five and the referee waved it off as Cote continued to batter Lloyd. Time was 2:45. Jr middleweight Erick Ochieng (10-1, 3 KOs) outpointed A.A. Lowe (10-7-1, 2 KOs) by scores of 100-90, 99-91, 98-92 to retain the English “11 stone” belt.

Welterweight - Frankie Gavin def Curtis Woodhouse on SD 12 / 12 - WBO Inter-Continental welterweight title

John Murray vs Kevin Mitchell - In a crowd pleasing battle former world title challenger Kevin Mitchell (32-1, 24 KOs) stopped the unbeaten reign of John Murray (31-1, 18 KOs), flooring Murray in the eighth round. Murray beat the count but Mitchell went back in and hammered away until the bout was stopped at 1.46.

Throughout out the bout, Mitchell (32-1, 24 KO) utilized a great left uppercut against the effective pressure applied by Murray. Till the sixth round it looked pretty even, although Murray’s eyes were swelling heavily and were probably impairing his vision. Then late in the seventh round, Mitchell hurt Murray badly, and Murray was saved by the bell.

With both eyes swollen and cut, Murray banged his gloves together and charged into Mitchell to start the eighth round, in an effort to get back into the game. Instead, he walked into some great shots from Mitchell, who floored Murray and then moments later finished him off after the referee gave Murray a final shot to come back into the fight.

This was a great comeback for Mitchell who has not fought in 14 months since his first pro loss to Michael Katsidis. - Ricky Burns vs Nicky Cook WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (32-2, 9 KOs) scored a first round TKO over former champ Nicky Cook (30-3, 16 KOs). Really a non-fight as Cook was down multiple times and apparently entered the ring with a back injury and was unfit to fight. Cook was taken from the ring on a stretcher. Time was 1:33. Rumors of match fixing were rife and bets were suspended in the UK on the fight. Cook was obviously not in a condition to get into the ring and one wonders how he got through his medical. A British Boxing Board of Control representative was on Sky Sports just after the fight, saying that it’s “too early” to say there will be any inquiry into the fight.
