Disciplinary Hearing For Former National Coach

Author: Former Malta boxing national coach Mr Scott Dixon is expected to be notified to attend a disciplinary session of the Malta Boxing Federation in the coming weeks.
Mr. Dixon is at the moment on indefinite suspension from the MBF, for behavior unbecoming of a coach and for behavior incompatible with the Olympic Spirit & youth leadership.
The disciplinary board will hear reports and evidence from coaches, boxers, and committee members about the behavior of Mr. Dixon in the last weeks of preparation for Malta’s participation in the Milan World Championships and in the aftermath of the championships.
The board will be tasked to examine if the complaints against Mr. Dixon merits a life long and permanent suspension from the Malta Boxing Federation.
Complaints against the former coach include dereliction of duties as a national coach including not attending key training session of his charge and abandoning a Maltese boxing athlete in a foreign country.
In line with democratic practice, Mr. Dixon will be given every opportunity to address the board and explain himself.

Maltese Boxers for Cardiff
Maltese Olympic style boxers will be leaving for Cardiff Wales for two weeks of training in local clubs in the Cardiff area.
The two boxers are Haithem Laamous who represented Malta at the AIBA World Championships in Milan and Clint Grech.
The trip was made possible thanks to Mr. Nino Spiteri a Gozitan who lives in Wales and has been involved in boxing for many years.
Mr. Spiteri is regarded as the Maltese MBF representative in Wales and is very active in helping Maltese Boxing.
This trip is part of a boxer, friendship exchange program were boxers from both countries will host each other and in doing so share a new experience in training and in comradeship.
Other boxing exchanges are in the pipeline with English clubs, these are being organized by Mr. Julian Borg also of Maltese decent and Mr. Glen Saffer who was recently in Malta as an official in a clubs competition between Malta and UK.

Scottish Training Camp in Malta
The amateur boxing association of Scotland will be holding a training camp in Malta.
The Scottish boys will be arriving in Malta on the 30th of January. They will be based in St Julian’s however they are expected to train in several clubs including St Julian’s Boxing Club, Dione’s ABC, I&J Boxing Club, Bertu’s Gym and The Game Boxing.
The Scottish visitors are: 54kg Joe Ham and Anthony Bilan / 57kg Michael Roberts and Sean Watson / 60kg Josh Taylor and Ryan Smith / 64kg Robert McKee and Darren McGinn / 69Kg Tommy Philbin and Aston Brown / Coaches: Michael Keane and Anthony Kerr and Team Manager: Thomas Brown.
The Malta Boxing Federation warmly welcomes the Scottish guests.

Martial Arts & Contact Sport Festival
To day the 23rd of January the Malta Boxing Federation will be giving a series of exhibitions of Olympic Boxing at a sport festival to be held at Tattingers Rabat Malta .
The event will have Kick Boxing, MMA and Olympic Boxing and three competitive bouts, one in each discipline, including an international Kicking Boxing match featuring Malta and Holland.
Contact sport fans should not miss this event which will display the talents of Maltese sport youths.

Indian Boxers in Pakistan
The Chinese amateur boxing team won first place in the team event of the tournament, the first Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Tournament, held in Karachi, Pakistan at the KPT Benazir Sports Complex from the 1st to the 9th of January, winning four gold medals. It was the first major amateur boxing event of 2010 and the first international sports event in Pakistan since the Mumbai terrorist attack in November 2008.
Since the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lanka cricket team in March last year, foreign sportsmen had refused to travel to Pakistan but this tournament even saw three Indian boxers in attendance, marking the first time any athletes from the country had travelled to the neighboring nation for a sports event since relations between the two South Asian countries were damaged by the Mumbai attack.
Host nation Pakistan competed with two teams in the event, which saw a total of 20 teams competing from China, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Syria, India, Hungary, Kenya, Iraq and Cameroon. Rising British-Pakistani star Amir Khan and 1988 Seoul Olympic Games bronze medalist Syed Hussain Shah were awarded honorary gold medals on behalf of the Pakistan Boxing Federation.
Syria clinched two gold and two silver medals in Karachi. Thailand collected two golds and host nation Pakistan won only one gold medal. Byamba Tuvshinbat of Mongolia (64kg) was named best boxer of the event. The tournament was the first-ever boxing event in Pakistan to offer prize money to boxers and teams.
Outside the ring, nine boxers, including Beijing Olympian welterweight boxer Joseph Mulema of Cameroon and eight other African boxers, embraced Islam, converting to the religion while in Karachi for the tournament.

Malta Rewards it Sportsmen & Sportswomen
Double trap shooter William Chetcuti was again voted Malta’s best sportsman by journalists members of the Sportswriters Association yesterday to retain the honour he won last year and make it an impressive eight titles in a glittering career.
Skeet’s Clive Farrugia made it a memorable double for the shooting fraternity in the 2009 Sportivi Nazzjonali contest after topping the list in the U-17 category.
The 2009 Official of the Year award went to motor sport federation head Tonio Cini followed by Judo’s Envic Galea and snooker referee Terry Camilleri.
Michael Calleja and Alexia Wetz in Special Olympics received special recognition.
Judo Kata World Championships was declared as best event hosted on our shores in 2009.
A special memento was also presented to veteran association member Simon Bonello, this year marking his 40th anniversary as head of the Malta Wrestling Federation, and Bertie Muscat, the ex-Maltese Olympic Committee official.
Aron Ciantar, was named winner of the KMS SportMalta Award.
