‘Unleash The Fury’ York Hall, March 5th
By Rio
London - Thursday, 27th January 2011
Toks Owoh Vs. JJ Ojuederie Headline ‘Unleash The Fury’ At York Hall, March 5th.
Steve Goodwin celebrates his first year as a boxing promoter with two huge shows in March, the first, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 5th March 2011, is headlined by Toks Owoh versus JJ Ojuderie and is supported by no less than fourteen bouts featuring the cream of the Capital’s upcoming young fighters.
On announcing the ‘Unleash The Fury’ event Steve Goodwin said, “The York Hall show, ‘Unleash The Fury’, on March 5th is a showcase for our boxers that are on the way up.
Our main show is at Dagenham on March 19th but we’ve got a lot of people that want to fight on our shows. Basically we’ve created a second show where we’re going to see a lot of upcoming talent, as well as a couple of boxers that have the potential to go to British and European championship level.
Toks Owoh will be headlining the show, he’s desperate to box Southern Area champion Leon Williams. He’s so desperate to fight Leon he says he’d do it for free because he wants to hurt him badly. He says he doesn’t want money for that. He’ll enjoy it. Unfortunately Leon’s got other arrangements, he’s on a Frank Maloney show in February.
Toks is hoping to put on a real good show on March 5th against JJ Ojuederie because he wants to show he can do a better job on JJ than Leon did. But he desperately wants to get Leon in the ring. Toks is after the British title, just the same as Leon is. That could be an interesting match up for later in 2011.
Also on the show we have the World Kick Boxing Champion, Llir Canolli from Cosavo. He’s very, very exciting to see. He is very well regarded and has been tipped to become a Boxing World Champion. So we’re very privileged for him to be coming over to fight on the show. He’s a true Cruiserweight prospect so we’re very excited to be seeing him.
I’m personally excited to see the come back of Michael Devine. He’s a very, very exciting come forward fighter. He lost in his last fight, on his 21st birthday, against Mark Alexander last year.
He took some time out and got himself back together. He’s working like a demon in the gym and I think this is the year we see Michael Devine progress through the ranks. Hopefully by December we’ll have Mark Alexander back in the ring with him so he can set the record straight.
It’s a big card, there will be fifteen bouts on the night. It’s going to be a big card, anything I am associated with I want to be known as giving value for money by the public and make sure that there is always a fantastic atmosphere and packed arenas.
It’s going to be a lot of four round fights with up and coming prospects. It’s going to be an exciting night of boxing. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Steve Goodwin’s ‘Unleash The Fury’ event at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London is headlined by a six round Cruiserweight contest between Toks Owoh versus JJ Ojuederie.
The huge fourteen bout undercard features some of London’s best upcoming talents and includes Ultrachem TKO’s ‘Dynamo’ Daryl Setterfield against Birmingham’s Andrew ‘Paddy’ Patterson.
Three Ultrachem TKO gym mates of Daryl Setterfield are also on the show, Light Heavyweight Joel ‘El Toro’ McIntyre, Light Middleweights Nathan Weise and Brett O’Callaghan, all against yet to be named opponents.
Also appearing on the show are Rainham Super Featherweight Richard Hines, Luton Lightweight Michael ‘Chunky’ Devine, unbeaten Biggleswade Light Middleweight Jamie Boness, Minster. Kent Light Heavyweight Dan ‘Woody’ Woodgate, Woolwich Super Middleweight Eder Kurti, Waltham Abbey Light Welterweight Phil Gill and unbeaten in twelve Hackney Middleweight Wayne Alwan-Arab.
Making his first outing as a professional is Highbury Super Featherweight Charlie Kelly who is set to face the highly experienced Birmingham battler Anthony ‘Spanner’ Hanna.
Also making their pro debuts at ‘Unleash The Fury’ are Harlesden Lightweight Met Sekiraqa and former World Kick Boxing Champion, Llir Canolli from Cosavo.

Bautista vs Barrera
Former world title challenger Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista (29-2, 22 KOs) of the Philippines and Alejandro Barrera (21-4, 14 KOs) of Mexico faced off today in Cebu City Philippines. The two will square off this Saturday in Cebu City at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in a 10 round featherweight main event. The bout is a rematch of their all action bout from this past August that was stopped in round four with Baustista winning at this very same venue. The first bout was an all action affair. Barrerra was giving a solid effort when he was cut by what was ruled a Bautista punch by the referee. The two will look to set the record straight this time around with a clear winner.

Jeff Lacy Statement
Former world champion Jeff Lacy has released a statement on the terrible tragedy that struck the St. Petersburg, Florida community this past Monday. Lacy’s older brother Hydra Lacy Jr, was involved in a shootout with police in which St. Petersburg Police Sgt. Thomas Baitinger and Office Jeffrey Yaslowitz were killed. Hydra Lacy Jr. also died during the shootout. Police in St. Petersburg had been looking for Hydra Lacy, Jr. since November after he skipped out on a trial for a 2009 domestic violence charge.
The 33 year old Jeff Lacy is a lifelong resident of St. Petersburg. He had left Florida two days prior to Monday’s tragedy for a previously scheduled surgical procedure and will be returning as soon as his doctor clears him to fly.
“I know this is an emotional time for everyone. I want to send my deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of Sgt. Tom Baitinger and Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz. I am truly sorry for your loss and cannot imagine the anger and pain you are feeling.”
“Unfortunately I was not in touch with my brother. I’m not sure if it could have been prevented, but I have always believed that almost any horrible tragedy can be prevented. My first reaction is probably like many others, that this should not have happened, but again, I am not in any position to comment on such a devastating loss.”
“What’s important now is that I recognize that children have lost their father, wives have lost their husbands, mothers and fathers have lost their sons, and those that serve our community and protect us have lost partners and brothers. I think that is what is bothering me most, knowing that my brother created this suffering and trying to understand why he acted this way has left me at one of the saddest moments of my life.”
“Losing our oldest brother is very hard to handle as anyone would expect. However, losing a family member, friend or loved one under these circumstances has made me really think a lot about my family and the families of the officers. Not being back home does not make this any easier because I know that a community that I care for and people I know and who know me are hurting. I’m hopeful we all find that place again as a community, where we can look in the mirror and see ourselves smiling again.”

“Turba’s Gonna Get Crushed”
By Rio
London - Wednesday, 26th January 2011
Leon ‘Solid’ Williams: “Turba’s Gonna Get Crushed”
Streatham’s Leon ‘Solid’ Williams gets his first outing, under the Frank Maloney promotional banner, when he faces Blackpool based Slovakian Richard Turba at Brentwood Leisure Centre, Essex on Saturday 5th February 2011, on the undercard of Jamie Arthur vs Jason Booth Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title clash.
Williams, ranked #6 in Britain and #77 in the World by BoxRec, is the current BBBofC Southern Area Cruiserweight Champion. Back in October Williams put in a dominating performance to beat former Southern Area Light Heavyweight champion JJ Ojuederie and lift the title by a virtual shutout 99-92 points margin.
Come February 5th Williams will have to put in an equally perfect performance as it seems that Frank Maloney is determined to test his latest signing to the max, in this non-championship bout, by matching him with Turba.
Turba, who has 5-2-1 record, has stopped four of his opponents, including in his last bout forcing another Maloney fighter, Prizefighter Cruiserweight winner Jon Lewis Dickinson, to retire with a broken jaw.
Following a training session, with his new manager and co-trainer Johnny Eames at his Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, Williams made it crystal clear that he wasn’t fazed at the prospect one iota, “I’ll be up against some guy called Richard Turba, he’s gonna get crushed. It’s my time now.
It’s gonna be a really good fight. I don’t back down so someone’s gonna get crushed and it’s not gonna be me.
It’s just a six rounder to get me ready for my Southern Area title defense. Not sure when that’ll be or who against.
For now I just want to keep busy and build up my record and push for the British, that’s the title I want by the end of the year. That’s my goal.”
Leon ‘Solid’ Williams, against Richard Turba will feature on the undercard of the Frank Maloney promoted Jamie Arthur vs Jason Booth Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title clash at the Brentwood Leisure Centre, Brentwood, Essex on Saturday 5th February 2011.
Also featured on the card will be a six round Super Flyweight contest which pits former British Bantamweight Champion Martin Power against the unbeaten Ashley Sexton.
Commonwealth Gold and Olympic Bronze medalist Heavyweight David Price will be in action against South Africa’s Osborne ‘Big Daddy’ Machimana. In another Heavyweight bout Tom Dallas also gets African opposition, this time in Zambia’s Francis ‘Galagata’ Zulu.
Stoke Newington’s exciting unbeaten Light Middleweight prospect Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng is set to face Canning Town’s Costas Osben.
Belfast Super Flyweight Jamie Conlan gets to pit his unbeaten, in five, record against Exeter’s Lewis Browning.
Malmesbury, Wiltshire’s Welterweight Joe Hughes gets his second outing against the highly experienced Johnny Greaves from East Ham.
In addition Middleweight Johnson McClumpha, Light Welterweight Karl Place, Middleweight Tony Hill, Super Bantamweight Lewis Pettitt, and Welterweight Martin Welsh are also featured, against yet to be named opposition.
Tickets, priced £30, for the event are available now direct from Leon Williams. Call Team Solid Ticket Hotline on 07538 150367 or buy on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com

WSB This Weekend
Three Top-Ranked Boxers in Action on Week Seven
By WSB
26, January, 2011
With six match weekends left to determine who qualifies for the play-offs in April, competition in the World Series of Boxing intensifies further this weekend with rematches of the week six encounters. Nowhere is the competition fiercer than in Europe, where Paris United and Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder, separated by only one win, once again face off in Paris on Friday in a match that will feature three of the top-ranked boxers in the competition.
Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder face another crunch match as they travel to Paris to face European conference leaders Paris United on Friday. On the previous encounter two weeks ago, Paris United’s home victory was enough to lose the Milan team the coveted best runners-up spot, which will ultimately decide the fourth and final team to go through to the play-offs.
The Paris squad chosen for this week has an impressive 11-1 WSB record and includes two top-ranked boxers, bantamweight John Joe Nevin and light heavyweight Ludovic Groguhe. Milano Thunder are replying with their own top-ranked boxer, Sergiy Derevyanchenko of the Ukraine at middleweight, and new signing Tommy McCarthy from Northern Ireland at light heavyweight, who becomes the first British national to compete in the World Series of Boxing.
Memphis Force host the Mexico City Guerreros at the Desoto Civic Center on Thursday night and will start week seven oF the competition desperately looking for a win. Their last home victory dates back to November 26 last year, since when they have dropped four events in a row. Yahman Phelps will be looking to make his mark on a rematch of his previous encounter with Angel Gutierrez in the lightweight contest, which Phelps lost by walkover last time.
The Mexico City Guerreros have a young squad in action this week, with an average age of just over 20, and will be hoping to repeat their away win against the Force in week six to move closer to Americas conference leaders the Los Angeles Matadors. The L.A. team has a six-point advantage over their rivals and will face the Miami Gallos at the Avalon Hollywood on Sunday.
Three new Russian boxers will debut for the Moscow team in Istanbul on Friday night, including 2008 Youth World Championships silver medalist Grigoriy Nikolaychuk, who will take on the unbeaten Mehmet Topcakan in the bantamweight opener. The Istanbulls also have a new signing, Ireland’s David Oliver Joyce, making his debut at lightweight. Heavyweight Mohammed Arjaoui from Morocco is the only boxer in action for the Istanbulls on Friday who has lost a bout this season.
The boxers in the Beijing Dragons squad that will host overall WSB leaders Baku Fires in Macau on Saturday have yet to win a bout between them. Baku have brought two boxers for rematches at bantamweight and lightweight, since Magomed Abdulhamidov and Ramal Amanov both beat their opponents for this week in the opening match last November. 22-year-old Abdulkadir Abdullayev makes his debut for the Baku team in this week’s heavyweight contest against 18-year-old Xiangyang Cheng.
Having leapfrogged Milano Thunder into the spot as best runners-up after their last match, the Astana Arlans will be looking to secure their position as they travel to Korea to face the re-baptised Pohang Poseidons in the Pohang Indoor Sport Gymnasium on Saturday. Moldova’s Victor Cotiujanschii will be looking to get off the mark for the home team as he faces a rematch of his week one encounter against Alibi Nurmatov in the middleweight bout. The second foreign boxer in action for the Poseidons is Algeria’s Abdelhafid Benchabla, who will face 2009 AIBA President’s Cup bronze medalist Ramzjon Ahmedov in the light heavyweight bout. Benchabla is unbeaten so far this season and is second in the individual rankings, but his position could be under threat from either of his two closest unbeaten rivals, Enrico Kolling of the Istanbulls and Zhavlonbek Usmanov of the Moscow Kremlin Bears, who face each other on Friday.
