Finals - Boxing at the 2010 Asian Games, being held in Guangzhou, China, at the Foshan Lingnan Gymnasium, has entered into the final stages of the competition Today Thursday the 25th of November saw the start of the men’s and women’s finals. - Result - Sergio Martinez def Paul Williams — Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) made the mistake of trying to slug with World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (45-2-2, 25 KO’s) on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey and he paid for it with an explosive left hook on his jaw which dropped him face first and out cold for the count 1:10 into round two.

- Results - Former 108lb world champion Edgar Sosa (41-6, 24 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Japan’s Masafumi Okubo (18-4-1, 6 KOs) to retain his WBC International flyweight belt on Saturday night at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Scores were 120-108, 118-110, 119-109. — Alberto Garza (23-4-1, 18 KOs) claimed the WBC Silver featherweight title via a twelve round split decision over previously unbeaten reigning champ Justin Savi (24-1, 16 KOs).

- Results, Germany — Robert Stieglitz defeats Enrique Ornelas — Defending his WBO Super Middleweight title against rugged journeyman Enrique Ornelas (30-7-0), Stieglitz (39-2-0) found himself in a difficult and closely contested fight. Early on, Stieglitz effectively outworked Ornelas, who seemed content to fight in bursts, while the younger German stayed on the offensive and landed a few solid combinations. Superfeatherweight - Ramona Kuehne defeated Irma Balijagic Adler on PTS 10 / 10 - WIBF Women’s International Boxing Federation super featherweight title, WBO female super featherweight title and World Boxing Federation female super featherweight title.

- Result, Prizefighter UK — Gary Buckland struck a mighty blow to Derry Mathews’ ribs to win the Prizefighter Super-Featherweights tournament at York Hall, Bethnal Green on a memorable night for British boxing. The Welshman destroyed British champion Gary Sykes with a devastating knock out in the opening round of their semi-final before claiming the trophy and £32,000 winner’s cheque with a clinical second round knockout of Mathews in the final.

- Result, Hala AZS PWSZ, ul. Glucholazka 12, Nysa, Poland — Cruiserweight - Pawel Kolodziej defeated John McClain by TKO 3 / 10 for the vacant WBC Baltic Silver cruiserweight title.
- Result, Imus Covered Court, Imus, Cavite, Philippines - Undefeated Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar sneaked in a stinging left straight and followed with a cracking right hook that sent Remuel Obidos crashing flat on his face on the canvas to win the WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight title before a huge crowd.- The end came at 2:26 of the opening round with Obidos lying prostrate on the canvas for several minutes as Games and Amusements Board doctors headed by Dr. Redentor Viernes attended to the fallen fighter. — From the opening bell the 21 year old Saludar wasted no time in using his left jab to rip through the defense of Obidos and hurt him a couple of times with solid combinations before the devastating right hook dropped the 19 year old Obidos. Referee Sammy Bernabe merely went through the motions of counting Obidos out.

Asian Games - Boxing, Day 3
The super heavyweight competed for the first medals at the third competition day of the 16th Asian Games today, while preliminaries were held in the light flyweight, flyweight and bantamweight divisions. The first boxing medals went to Iran, Kazakhstan, India and host nation China.
AIBA Report _ Thursday 18th November
In the opening contest of the day Tammer Tournament winner flyweight Rey Saludar of the Philippines was awarded the second knockout of the Games. The 23-year-old Filippino boxer took only 94 seconds to knock down his opponent from Bhutan, Kinley Gyeltshen. Saludar faces Nepal’s Puran Rai in the quarter-final, putting him in with a good chance of a medal.
The light flyweight boxers started their first contests today and the Philippines’ new sensation, Rey’s younger brother Victorio, easily dismissed Malaysia’s Mohamed Redzuan Bin Mohamed Fuad on his debut. Victorio Saludar’s next opponent will be a youth boxer, Zarip Jumayev of Turkmenistan.
Asian Games bronze medalist and Japan’s No. 1 Katsuaki Susa outpointed Macau’s inexperienced Leong Song Keong in an easy contest where the final verdict was 17:0. Susa’s next opponent will be 17-year-old Lin Yu Che from Chinese Taipei, who defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Hai.
China’s newcomer 23-year-old Chang Yong took his first step on the road to a medal after beating Turkmenistan’s teenager Farruh Yomudov. The Chinese boxer will be fighting for the medal against North Korea’s Khasanov Memorial Tournament winner Pak Jong Chol, who defeated Jordan’s Pan Arab Games winner Mohammad Al-Wadi by 10:2.
Uzbekistan’s rising star Shahriyor Isakov eliminated Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar in the first preliminary round but had an unexpectedly hard fight against Kyrgyzstan’s Meder Mamakeyev on Thursday. Isakov led by 3:1 after two rounds but Mamakeyev gave it his all to equalize the bout in the last round. In the end the Uzbek won the match by accepted scores.
One of the most anticipated contests of the day was between Asian Champion Suranjoy Mayengbam Singh of India and South Korea’s young hope Kim Ju Seong in the flyweight division. Even though the Indian led for six minutes, the Korean boxer did not give up his chance. In the third and final round after a great run of punches the scoring finished 8:6 to Singh but the young Korean boxer can expect a promising future.
India’s Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Amandeep Singh had an excellent first round against Saudi Arabia’s Fahad Ahmed Al-Faifi and was leading 9:0 when the Turkish referee stopped the light flyweight contest at the end of the first round. The Indian boxer will be fighting against his old rival in the next round, Pakistan’s 23-year-old Muhammad Waseem, who was also bronze medalist at the Commonwealth Games last month.
The main bantamweight favorite, Uzbekistan’s Orzubek Shayimov, outclassed South Asian Games winner Naimat Ullah of Pakistan on his debut and will face China’s 21-year-old Zhang Jiawei in the next round. Zhang defeated Olympic Games quarter-finalist Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan in a close contest.
India’s newcomer 22-year-old former Asian Junior Champion Chhote Lal Yadav lost to Beijing Olympian Satoshi Shimizu of Japan who will face Korotkov Memorial winner Ri Myong Son of North Korea in the quarter-final.
Olympic Games silver medalist Worapoj Petchkoom of Thailand and Iderkhuu Enkhjargal of Mongolia had a huge battle in which the Southeast Asian boxer celebrated a victory. Petchkoom is now only one step away from his medal dream and faces Iran’s Omran Akbari in the next round.
Bantamweight Sigyel Phub made history when he won his contest on the opening day as the first Bhutan boxer to win a bout. Today he continued his excellent performance in his contest against top Asian boxer Daniyar Tolegenov of Kazakhstan. The Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Phub won the bout by 6:3 after a great last round which he won 4:0. Phub needs to win only one more bout, against Syria’s Wessam Salamana, to secure a medal.
The first boxing medal goes to Iran after the first super heavyweight contest after 32-year-old Rohollah Hosseini outpointed Mir Waiz Khan of Pakistan. The veteran Hosseini is back on track after a four-year break before the Asian Games and he took Iran’s first boxing medal in Guangzhou.
The 2-metre-plus AIBA Youth World Championships silver medalist Ivan Dychko of Kazakhstan had to fight his strong neighbor, Uzbekistan’s Sardor Abdullayev again. Dychko won the contest by 8:1, eliminating the first Uzbek boxer from the Asian Games.
India’s Paramjeet Samotha claimed the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games last month and it is already sure that the young competitor will be travelling home with a medal from Guangzhou. The Moroccan referee stopped his contest against Korea’s Park Sung Keun in the second round of the bout.
After his first victory in the preliminary round, Olympic Games silver medalist Zhang Zhilei had to face his biggest rival, Sumar Ghossoun of Syria, in the quarter-final in front of the home crowd. The Chinese boxer controlled the close bout and advanced to the semi-final on the back of a 5:3 victory.

Boxing Result — Thursday 11 November 2023 - Corona Theatre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada — Headlining in his hometown of Montreal for the very first time, heavyweight hopeful Bermaine Stiverne wasted no time in disposing of Ramon Hayes, knocking the Georgia fighter out at the 2:08 of the first round. Stieverne landed a right to the temple of Hayes who crumpled down in the neutral corner and staggered wildly ashe tried to get to his feet at the count of seven, causing the referee to stop the fight . It was only the second fight in Montreal for the Don King promoted Stiverne who now calls Las Vegas home and looked impressive in his first fight in over a year, albeit over an out- gunned opponent. It goes as the 12th setback in a row for Hayes who falls to 15-32-1 while Stiverne moves 19-1-1 scoring his 18th knockout.
