Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich Targets New Philadelphia Fans

Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich Aims to Gain New Fans in Philly

In a bout that has the makings of a match made in boxing heaven, former Heavyweight Champion Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich takes on top Heavyweight Contender “Fast” Eddie Chambers to open the new NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night on January 21, 2012, at 9pm, at Asylum Arena in Philadelphia.

Sergei is a native of Belarus and grew up in the former Soviet Union. He attributes his upbringing to the type of fighter and person he is today. “Growing up in Belarus was the best life lesson for me. It prepared me for all the challenges that life brings.” “It made me stronger and hungrier for a better life.” Someone once said ‘sports does not build character, it reveals it,’ growing up in Belarus definitely helped build my character!”

Since he was 12 years old, Liakhovich always dreamed of becoming a professional boxer. When Sergei was young he would cut out articles from newspapers and magazines which featured fighters like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. He envisaged becoming a boxing icon. “I knew that the United States was the most important place to be in order to make it big in professional boxing. When I was 23, I obtained one of my goals by coming to the US, it wasn’t easy. Becoming World Champion at 29 was the next big accomplishment, now I intend to continue the dream by becoming a world champion again” Sergei said.

Commenting about fighting in a city with a rich boxing heritage, Liakhovich said, “Philadelphia has so much boxing history and true boxing fans. I grew up in the working class city, so this feels like going home to me. One of the biggest compliments you can have as a fighter is when you can turn a crowd that comes to support the home town guy into your own fans by the end of the fight. It happened in Pittsburgh when I fought Brewster and I think it will happen again in Philly.”

Sergei is pleased to be on NBC Sports Network’s inaugural Fight Night show, “I am so excited to have the opportunity to be in the main event on NBC Sports Network’s opening show. NBC is an important part of worldwide TV and to be chosen for this show was a privilege. Anyone who knows me knows that I give my all each time I step in the ring. I promise you nothing less on January 21st. In fact, since our styles match perfectly, when Chambers and I mix it up, it will be a night boxing fans will talk about!”

Felix Sturm “I Want You”

Martin Murray Statement

Released By Hatton Media

After recently hearing that Felix has announced the date of his next fight (April 13th) in Germany, I would like to make it known that I have still not heard anything of a rematch.

I don’t know whether their team have discussed opponents but I am here Felix - ready and waiting.

Felix has been a great champion, but both me and him know that night in Mannheim he did not beat me. Felix cannot beat me. He knows I am the better fighter and so I am not expecting him to offer me a rematch.

You offered Randy Griffin one and the same to Matthew Macklin, so you have proved that you try and correct close fights (or losses) but i don’t think that the Sturm team are confident that you can win this one and as a result they and you will avoid me.

Please be fair to yourself, to me and the German people who have supported you to get this fight on!

My manager and promoter built a good relationship with your team in the build-up and negotiations went well for the previous fight so this should be a straight forward agreement.

I won’t ask for silly money, just give me a fair price. I will even come to your own city of Cologne and bring double the fans I did last time and anyone watching the last fight we see the spectacle on offer.

Imagine nearly 1000 English fans crammed in there, it will be an event remembered for years, so come on Felix, I am here, ready and waiting! Let’s get it on.

The German people who gave tremendous support after the last fight I thank you, it meant a lot to me and if we sort this rematch out I will give you all a fight to remember.

Mayweather’s Newest Residence

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department have released a photo of the type of single-inmate cell that Mayweather will occupy when he begins his 90-day sentence.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be spending his 35th birth day behind bars after being sentenced to 90 days in jail starting on January 6 (2012) as a result of pleading guilty to a charge of misdemeanour battery domestic violence and no contest on two counts of harassment.

Mayweather was also ordered by Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa to pay a $2,500 fine, complete 100 hours of community service and to undergo 12 months of treatment in a domestic violence program.

Details of Mayweather’s Prison Stay

According to authorities Mayweather will probably be segregated for his protection from the other 3,400 prisoners, at least for the first week, he will also get a standard-issue blue jail jumpsuit with the letters CCDC and orange slippers.

As other inmates Mayweather will be able to deposit any amount of money into a jail account to purchase snacks, candy, soap and personal hygiene items from the jail commissary. However this will be a reality check for Mayweather as the most expensive item are reading glasses, which cost $7.

During his first week in jail, Mayweather would have access to an exercise yard for about an hour daily and depending on his behaviour, he could later get several hours daily exercise with other inmates also being held in protective custody. Good behaviour and work time could knock up to 30 days off Mayweather’s sentence, making an early March release date a possibility.
