FREDDIE ROACH: NBC Fight Nights Good For Boxing

FREDDIE ROACH:

NBC SPORTS NETWORK “FIGHT NIGHT”

BOUTS ARE GOOD FOR BOXING

3/24 NBC Sports Network Fight Night

Aviator Sports and Events Center, Brooklyn, NY

When the NBC Sports Network presents the second edition of its nationally televised “Fight Night” boxing series on March 24, live at 10PM ET, from the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach will once again join Kenny Rice, BJ Flores and Chris Mannix as part of the broadcast team. Roach made his “Fight Night” debut in January, and brings a world of boxing knowledge to his new role as a ringside commentator.

Few people know the game like Roach, who currently trains boxing stars like Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. Prior to that, he had his own 8-year ring career that produced a record of 40-13 with 15 KOs. But more than anything else, Roach is a boxing fan who is always up for watching a good fight.

“I’m a big boxing fan,” Roach said. “So I’m happy to see the NBC Sports Network out there doing such good fights.”

Roach feels that it is the quality of the match that makes a fight worth watching or not. “What people want to see are competitive fights,” Roach said. “They are good for boxing. People don’t want to see blowouts.”

And Roach likes what he sees on this card. The main event is the 12-round Eliminator for the IBF Junior Welterweight Title between former champion Zab Judah and undefeated contender Vernon Paris.

“It’s a great match up,” Roach said. “You’ve got an upcoming guy in with the knowledgeable veteran. The question is, who’s going to pull it off. I know both guys pretty well. Paris was one of my sparring partners for Amir Khan, and of course Zab Judah faced Khan. I think it’s a very interesting fight, and I can’t wait to see who wins.”

In the 10-round co-feature bout, former heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich takes on Bryant Jennings, the guy who stole the show on the first “Fight Night” broadcast.

“Bryant is kind of green but the thing is, he makes up for it with heart and conditioning,” Roach said. “I thought he won his last fight because his conditioning prevailed. Obviously Liakhovich is coming off the bigger fights, but once again, it’s the young upcoming guy against the veteran who’s been there. Hey, it’s a very interesting fight and I can’t wait to see it!”

Roach is also looking forward to the third fight of this blockbuster triple-header, an interesting 10-round heavyweight contest between Tomasz Adamek and Nagy Aguilera.

“It’s always interesting to see how people come back after they lose a big fight,” Roach said about Adamek, who is returning from his TKO at the hands of Vitali Klitschko. “Sometimes guys work harder and want to be better than the last time, and sometimes they come back a little depressed. The key to the fight is to see how he took the loss. It should be fun to watch.”

Roach thinks it will be a very good show. “In all three of these fights, we really don’t know who comes out the winner. They all have the chance to go the other way. It’s a competitive card that is good for the sport.”

This not only benefits the fans, it helps Roach as well. “The better the fights, the better we do our job (broadcasting). It kind of pumps us up a little bit,” Roach said.

This boxing show is one not to be missed, whether you watch it on television or are a member of the live ringside audience in Brooklyn, NY.

“There is nothing like taking in the atmosphere of the whole live event,” Roach said. “A lively crowd pumps up the boxers and becomes part of the fight. Plus the young guys need the exposure. This is a compelling card that is good for boxing.”

Q&A with Adamek, Bloodworth & Duva

Q&A with Tomasz Adamek,

Roger Bloodworth and Kathy Duva
JERSEY CITY - Today Tomasz Adamek (44-2, 28 KO’s),discussed his upcoming heavyweight bout with Nagy Aguilera (17-6, 12 KO’s), and answered media questions. HIs fight is part of the exciting March 24th NBC Sports Network Fight Night show featuring Zab Judah vs. Vernon Paris, airing live 10PM on NBC Sports Network from the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, NY.Kathy Duva, CEO Main Events

“Everybody knows we have a great, loaded card on March 24th. The fight will be on NBC Sports Network. We have a great, little venue in the Aviator, I wish we could have had a bigger venue but the availability of arenas dictated that this was our location. It’s going to make for a great night I think everyone is going to be excited and thrilled to be there. We have so many good fights on the card. And we’re blessed to also have in addition to the main event which will feature Zab Judah vs. Vernon Paris, and a co-feature with Sergei Liakhovich and Bryant Jennings; we are also able to provide this wonderful extra bout which normally would be a main event anywhere else, Tomasz Adamek who is going to be fighting Nagy Aguilera.”

How were your expectations for the Klitschko fight and the reality of the fight different?

Tomasz Adamek: “Boxing is my life, sometimes you win, sometimes lose. Last time I lose. I am 35 years old but I’m still hungry fighter. I want to come back and show everyone that I can win this fight (Aguilera) and couple next (fights) and get again future title fights. Vitali is a different fighter than Nagy Aguilera. Nagy is my size. But every fight you learn something. I am quick now and I think I will be on March 24, but in Poland I was very slow, I was not true Tomasz Adamek.”

Was there a conscious effort in training for this fight to get Tomasz up to 225-230, to build more muscle because you believe he needed to be bigger ?

Roger Bloodworth: “We didn’t make an effort. What we did when he was at my house was we trained in the morning and we trained in the evening. The evening practice was gloves, mitts.Tomasz was fighting so often leading up to the Klitschko fight that I don’t think that his body ever had the time to fill out. That was Tomasz’s problem. I think this time he’s going to be all right, cause he looks bigger to me and to me he looks quicker. His style has changed a bit. And I think it was a good thing for him, the rest let his body heal up, the weight came and came as muscle instead of fat. I’m happy with that.”

What does it mean for NBC Sports Network to have Tomasz Adamek on this and the June broadcast?

Kathy Duva: They are very happy with the entire card and are working very hard to promote it. When we let them know that he was going to be available to fight that night (March 24), at that time they didn’t really have time for three fights, they agreed to extend the time for that window so that his (Adamek’s ) fight could be televised. We were very happy about that. They are also happy about being able to come to Newark in June and see him at Prudential Center which we anticipate will be full of people like it always is.”

What do you see in Nagy that will benefit Tomasz?

Roger Bloodworth: “Nagy’s got fast hands so Tomasz is going to have to be alert. Nagy can box when he wants to and he can punch a little when he wants to, and I think Nagy will bring both. I don’t think it’d be good for Tomasz to be put in the ring with somebody that’s just going to stand in one spot and let him get hit. Nagy won’t do that.”

Tomasz will you have your big, loyal fan base in Brooklyn and if not how will it affect you?

Tomasz Adamek: “I have a lot of friends and fans in the United States and I’m sure they’re coming to watch my fight.”

“I am happy I can come back to the ring. When I go into the ring I want to win fight. I don’t know how, only that I am healthy and ready to fight. I am training with Roger very hard. I train mini camps in his home and we are here 6 weeks in NJ. I’m ready to fight.”

Zab “Super” Judah Training Camp Q&A

LAS VEGAS - Zab Judah, 41-8, 28 KOs, will face Detroit’s Vernon Paris, 26-0, 15 KOs, in a 12-round IBF Junior Welterweight Title Elimination Bout at the Aviator Sports Complex, in Brooklyn, NY. The fight promoted by Main Events, is the featured bout of a big night of boxing to be nationally televised by the NBC Sports Network. The Fight Night broadcast begins at 10PM ET.

Zab took part in a Q&A with the media today about his March 24th fight

How does it feel to be fighting in your hometown, Brooklyn?

It’s great! This is the first time that I will be fighting in Brooklyn as a professional. It’s a great feeling; you know the last time I fought in Brooklyn I think was Golden Gloves.

Where do you feel you are at, at this point in your career?

I think that in this fight I will get back the respect that I think I deserve at this point. I understand that everybody was a little upset after the last performance, but something’s are out of your control. With this fight right here we will bring back the Zab Judah of old. I feel almost like Superman. You know how Superman always retreated to the booth, and when he came out of the booth he was Superman again? Well this is Zab Judah all over again. I am retreating back to my roots, Brooklyn, NY, and when I come out of the booth I’ll come out with flying colors.

Still comfortable at 140?

Yes, 140 is the weight class that I feel great at, that I make very easily. I’m still a fighter that can go out and eat a filet mignon burger and still make 140 pounds. This is my solid, natural weight and I don’t plan on leaving it no more.

Is this fight more important than the last fight?

First of all, I think people kind of forget that just last July I was the champion of the world. And now I am coming back to get what is rightfully mine. Every time you step in the ring it means the same thing to every fighter. Vernon Paris means the same as Amir Khan meant to me. Anybody that knows me knows that winning means more to me than anything. I could care less who it is, the opportunity at hand is just Zab Judah stepping in and being the best Zab Judah that he can be.

What does this fight remind you of?

This fight reminds me of the fight with Lucas Matthysse, when I was going against a fighter that was undefeated with all knockouts. You know what I’m saying? This kind of puts me back in that position again. There I went in and won that fight too. Then you had Kaiser Mabuza right after that for the title. I’m used to being in this position. In this position I shine best.

Is there anything about Vernon Paris that gives you concern?

Yeah, I hope that he shows up! (laughs) Vernon Paris is coming to New York City, Brooklyn, NY. My fans are my fans. You have to respect everywhere that you go. You can’t bad-mouth or disrespect anywhere that you go and expect to just walk out plain and calm. I love Detroit, I defended my world title in Detroit, I have a lot of friends in Detroit, and I have a lot of respect for Detroit. So I don’t want anyone thinking this is a Detroit vs. Brooklyn fight cause it’s not…All I’m asking of the young man is to come in here with respect of the place. Give respect and respect will be given back.

Parting thoughts?

I’m excited again. I’m telling you, I feel like I’m 22 years old again. I promise you, I’m going to come back here and give you guys the excitement that I gave you guys when I was 22 years old.

I’m ready! The fire is lit! Brooklyn is ready! You know what? All I can say is this going to be great! This is gonna be great!

Muay Thai: Buakaw vs. Pinca - 17 March

El Hadj MEKEDEM and MUAYTHAITV
Are Proud To Present

The Fight Of The Decade

La Nuit des Titans

BUAKAW POR PRAMUK VS FABIO PINCA

The fight of the Decade is signed! BUAKAW Por PRAMUK, K-1 champion and recent Thai Fight champion will face FABIO PINCA, former Thai Boxing champion

This fight will take place in Tours, FRANCE on Saturday 17th of March

Buakaw Por Pramuk and Fabio Pinca are currently in the world’s top ten ranked Muay Thai fighters.

Buakaw Por Pramuk has already won the K-1 World Max 2 times (2004, 2006) and the Thai Championship in 2011. He is considered by many Muay Thai specialists as one of the best fighters in the last ten years

Fabio Pinca took the WBC Muay Thai, world title in 2009 and also took the Isuzu Thai Fight Tournament Champion in 2010

Promoter El Hadj MEKEDEM has organized more than 20 events with many other great fighters.
Before this event, he wondered what fight he could bring to the Muay Thai Fans.

“Last year when BUAKAW was in my event we were sold out two weeks before the event! I know that this time it will be the same. That is why i decide to work with MUAYTHAITV to set up a live internet broadcast for the event to the entire world. Thus the whole Muay Thai community will be able to watch this explosive bout” said Mekedem.

The two fighters agreed to fight below 68 kg (150 lbs) but Nasser KACEM, Fabio PINCA’s coach has demanded weigh-in on the morning of the fight. Thus ensuring that the two fighters will both be at the same weight, for the fight.

BUAKAW said: “Fabio is certainly one of the best Muay Thai Fighters on earth now, he defeated many thai fighters, he defeated by KO the Lumpinee champion BUT … whatever he can do, as long as i am in Muay Thai the best ranking he can get is 2nd!
I’m very excited about this fight. I know that it will be broadcast live on internet all around the world and i will show my skills to all my fans”.

FABIO knows what Buakaw said, He replied saying: “I’m self confident, the best answer i can give will be the one in the ring”.

We should not conclude that Fabio is an outsider before the fight, he is always very quiet and he likes this kind of challenge. He has a superb punch and he knows that if he is able to connect with his target the fight is over. He has demonstrated many times in the past that he performs best in difficult situations.

We understood that the situation is not far from 50/50…

Before this main event you will also see a 4-men tournament with:
• Mickael PISCITELLO (France)
• Fares BECHAR (Algeria)
• SUPER X (Thailand)
• Birth KHAM (Cambodia)

Also a prestige fight:
PAJONSUK (Thailand) VS ELAKAIDAIR (France)

The Live Internet Streaming will start on Saturday 17th of March at 08:00pm French time (07:00pm GMT). For further information go to: http://live.muaythaitv.com
