Boxing News – Updates 29th June – For: WBC will begin a good faith campaign, Wlodarczyk vs Palacios II, Clash of the Titans, Olympic style drug testing, Povetkin will not fight July 14
WBC will begin a good faith campaign - The president of the WBC Jose Sulaiman regret the current situation boxing is going through where champions have been involved with drug problems, power disputes between promoters and unacceptable behavior outside the ring. Due to these facts, the WBC will begin a campaign of good faith where it will try to make boxers, promoters and managers changer their minds on their behaviors to change the image of boxing in the world, for this, it will be proposed a fund for every boxer where there will be saved a little percentage of their incomes so they can have a good life after they retire from boxing.
Wlodarczyk vs Palacios II could be in September - Polish, WBC cruiserweight champion, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk will defend his crown against Puerto Rican Francisco “Wizard” Palacios, in a rematch that was ordered by the WBC and to be held on September 22nd in Poland. - The first fight was in April 2nd , 2011, where the local Wlodarczyk won a split decision victory in a controversial decision, the scores of the judges were 116-113 and 118-112 for the polish and 115-113 for the Puerto Rican.
Wlodarczyk has a record of 46-2-1, 33 KO’s, while Palacios is 21-1, 13 KO’s.
“Clash of the Titans,” Saturday in Lodz (Poland)- will be featuring fights of Roy Jones Jr vs. Pawel Glazewski, Jameel McCline vs. Artur Szpilka and Nate Campbell vs. Krzysztof Szot, will be available worldwide, outside Poland on www.boks.ipla.tv
Olympic style drug testing - WBO Super Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire made news when he agreed to be the first professional boxer to undergo year round random Olympic style drug testing that will be administered by VADA (Voluntary Anti-Drug Association). - Most fighters now days have made random drug testing a prerequisite in order for a fight with them and an opponent to be possible. Donaire talking on BoxingScene’s official radio show The Boxing Lab, said: (about his opponents) - “Regardless if they do test positive, I will put my life and my waiver that I will fight that guy. And I will prove to the world that I’m still better even though that guy is on it. I mean to me, they’re not mandated to do a drug testing but I invite them to do it and I hope they do” - “For me I’m doing it because I owe it to my fans. That they’re supporting a guy who grew up being pushed down and let them know I made it happen because I work hard. I believe in myself and that anybody can make it happen if they work hard and be honest and do it the right way”. stated the Filipino Flash.
Povetkin will not fight July 14 - World Boxing Association (WBA) Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin will not be able to defend his title on July 14 in Hamburg. The fight night at the Alsterdorfer Sporthalle has been called off due to an injury sustained by the challenger Hasim Rahman. The number one WBA ranked heavyweight needed an operation to remove a cyst on his right hand and therefore is not able to fight Povetkin. To find a fitting replacement for a Heavyweight title shot in such a short space of time is unrealistic.
Helliet’s Boxing Show: Friday, July 6th
Helliet Press Release
Fight fans are guaranteed value-for-money when Britain’s top small-hall promoter stages his biggest-ever show.
Mickey Helliet has regularly sold out shows this year and reports tickets have been selling fast for his bumper 15-fight bill at The Coronet in Elephant and Castle on Friday, July 6th.
Helliet has matched 10 unbeaten boxers – including highly-touted Ahmet Patterson.
Patterson, a former England amateur international, makes the step up to six-round level against Kevin McCauley and crowd-pleasers Lloyd Ellett, Charlie Rice, Craig Whyatt and Elliott Matthews are among Helliet’s red-hot prospects heading for title contention.
Watford middleweight Matthews was a top amateur and goes into next week’s fight boosted by back-to-back first round knock outs.
Vinny Woolford is another fighter recently signed by Helliet with dynamite in his fists.
His one-punch wipe out Tyler Goodjohn was a contender for knockout-of-the-year and the Ramsgate welterweight re launches his career on Helliet’s latest ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ fight night at The Coronet.
Islington teenager Charlie Rice has thrilled fans with an all-action style that has taken him to two straight wins in the light-welterweight division – and big punches will be thrown when a pair of heavyweight hitters launch their professional careers.
West London-based Adam Brearley makes his paid debut – and so does Marek Onda, from Slovakia.
Millwall fan Johnny Garton, known as ‘The Pexican’ for his non-stop aggression, aims to extend his unbeaten record on the show and fighting fisherman Warren Fenn plans to reel in his third straight win to climb the middleweight rankings.
The event will also feature an auction to raise funds towards funeral costs for ex-Helliet fighter Lewis Pinto who tragically took his own life earlier this month. Pinto’s unbeaten stable mate Lee Owen will be on the bill.

Boxing News & Updates – 21st June
Boxing News & Updates – 21st June – For: Vázquez Jr & Marquez Conference, WBO welterweight champion, 28-year-old Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao says he wants a rematch, Russian Cruiserweight Grigory Drozd, Wladimir Klitschko, David Haye and Dereck Chisora
Vázquez Jr & Marquez Conference - Former world champions Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs) and Rafael Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs) were face to face today at a press conference for their August 4 pay-per-view clash billed as “The War, Puerto Rico vs Mexico” at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.- Rafael Marquez: I had been training for a month and a half and I come to Puerto Rico for a war. Puerto Ricans know who I am and know that I come to fight. - Wilfredo Vazquez Jr: “I know you and I’m training for a big fight. I don’t underestimate you for your age as a lot of people do. I had two ways to continue my career. The long way to make two or three fights and then go for a title or fight against Marquez, a veteran or the short way. I choose the short way and I am going to fight Marquez.”
WBO welterweight champion, 28-year-old Timothy Bradley once again responded to criticism that he has not fairly won his fight with 33-year-old Filipino Manny Pacquiao. According to Bradley, Manny is not the same boxer and has shown decline and in a possible re-match he will be easily defeated, because he now knows how to fight against the Filipino. Bradley also said in an interview with mydesert.com, that Pacquiao’s best years are already behind. “He [Pacquiao] is getting worse - he said. - The truth is that his skills are declining. He shook me very seriously in the fourth round, but could not finish the fight. Former Manny would have knocked me. I think he’s worn out. I saw this at a press conference and thought that this guy is seriously tired. He even had bags under his eyes. ” (Photo by AP)
Manny Pacquiao says he wants a rematch with Timothy Bradley after a five-judge panel assembled by the WBO championship committee unanimously favored the Filipino fighter in a video review. Pacquiao said Thursday he would prefer a rematch rather than Bradley giving up the WBO welterweight title that he won on a split decision because “people may think I just usurped it.” The five judges on the review panel all scored the fight in Pacquiao’s favor — 117-111, 117-111, 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113. At the June 9 bout in Las Vegas, judge Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, and Duane Ford and C.J. Ross had it for Bradley by the same score. Pacquiao’s return date has been set aside for November 10th, likely at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He arrives in Los Angeles on Sunday and plans to meet with his promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, next week to discuss his November fight and the possible options on the table.
Today the 20th June in Moscow, Russian Cruiserweight (up to 90.7 kg) Grigory Drozd took a premature victory over Brazilian Fabio Garrido in the 39th second of the very first round. Drozd immediately had Garrido on the ropes. Followed by a series of precise punching, after which the Brazilian corner threw in the towel, refusing to continue the fight.
IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko says he looks forward to his fight against Tony Thompson, Which is scheduled for July 7. The American is a former sparring partner and opponent of Vladimir. Their ring encounter in 2008, ended in defeat for Thompson by KO in the 11th round.
Both David Haye and Dereck Chisora are now officially “Licensed to Thrill” at West Ham United on July 14th. Haye was presented with his Luxembourg Boxing Federation license in Luxembourg earlier today from the General Secretary of the LBF, Tony Tiberi. “We are proud to grant a great fighter like David Haye a boxing licence and he showed his appreciation by coming out here today to talk to the media and rub shoulders with his fans, who requested many autographs. David was charming and FLB has no doubt that his fight with Dereck Chisora will be a credit to boxing,” said Tiberi. Last month Chisora was handed his license and now both boxers are ready to fight in out in one of the biggest grudge fights in British boxing history.
