IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (31-1, 18 KOs) retained his belt with a fifth round TKO over Paul Delgado (25-10-1, 4 KOs). Zaveck dropped Delgado twice in round two, and finished him in round five in the one-sided bout. Referee Benny Decroos finally waved in off in the fifth as the cut and battered Delgado sank to his knees. Zaveck, who made his third successful defense, has now set his sights on invading the USA in search of big fights. Unbeaten female middleweight star Christina Hammer (9-0, 7 KOs) punished Diana Kiss (6-3-1, 5 KOs) en route to an eighth round TKO. The battered and bloodied Kiss did not come out for round eight, allowing Hammer to claim the vacant WBF belt. Hammer is also the WBO champion. - Light heavyweight Denis Simcic (26-1, 14 KOs) defended his WBF International belt with a ten round unanimous decision over Sandro Siproshvili (24-8, 11 KOs). Some question about the scoring, but Simcic was up at least of seven points on all cards entering the tenth.

The bout was stopped on the advice of the ring doctor between rounds three and four after Trazancos somehow survived Gesta’s brutal assault in round three. Bacskai and Selimov Crowned at 55th Bocskai Memorial
By AIBA
Bacskai and Selimov Crowned at Bocskai Memorial
This weekend saw the finals of the strong 55th Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary, where Balazs Bacskai defended his title and six Russians fought for gold and secured the best team trophy.
The special guests of the tournament were the President of the European Boxing Confederation, Dr. Humbert Furgoni, AIBA Executive Committee member Dr. Sandor Csotonyi and the Mayor of Debrecen, Mr. Lajos Kosa.
In the opening gold medal bout of the day AIBA World Championships silver medalist David Ayrapetyan of Russia and two-time Hungarian National Champion Istvan Lakatos fought in a re-match of last year’s light flyweight final. The bout finished with another victory for Ayrapetyan, the strong Russian competitor beating the young Hungarian by 7:1.
Reigning European Champion 22-year-old Misha Aloyan of Russia and Moldova’s European Championships bronze medalist Alexandru Riscan battled for the flyweight gold. Aloyan did not give Riscan any chance to beat him, dominating all three rounds to win by 8:1.
Former European Champion 23-year-old Luke Campbell from Hull in England found the way back to the final victory against newly-crowned Hungarian National Champion 19-year-old Krisztian Nagy, who lives in Szolnok. The young Hungarian was an unpleasant fighter, giving Campbell a tough task to beat him.
Russia’s two-time European Champion Albert Selimov, who claimed the gold medal at the 2007 AIBA World Championships in Chicago, was one of the best names in the tournament. His rival in the lightweight final was Panamerican Champion Yasnier Toledo of Cuba. Selimov showed some great series of punches during the fight and secured the gold medal winning the bout by 4:1. The Kaspiysk-based boxer was awarded the best foreign boxer trophy after the finals in Debrecen.
At the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India in October last year, AIBA World Championships bronze medalist Bradley Saunders of England and Beijing Olympian Richarno Colin of Mauritius fought in the semifinal but their rematch in Debrecen was for the gold medal. The speedy Mauritian boxer caused one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by beating the experienced Saunders by accepted scores after the bout finished 6:6.
Hungary’s reigning European Champion 23-year-old Balazs Bacskai, who is coached by his father, faced Russian National Championships silver medalist teenager Pyotr Khamukov for the first time. Bacskai dominated his Russian opponents last year, beating AIBA World Championships silver medalist Andrey Zamkovoy and National Champion Aleksandr Klinkov.
He dominated the first round of his final led by 2:0 at the break, but the young Russian came back with some hard body shots and equalized the contest at the end of the second three minutes. Bacskai gathered all his strength for the final round and put in a magnificent performance in front of 1500 local spectators to defend his title.
One of the most anticipated fights of the final day was between Olympic Games silver medalist Emilio Correa of Cuba and European Champion Artem Chebotarev of Russia in the middleweight division. Unfortunately, the bout was cancelled due to a hand injury to Chebotarev, leaving Correa to pick up the gold by walk-over.
Finland’s Eemeli Katajisto probably secured the best result of his career after advancing to the final in Debrecen where he had to face Russia’s defending champion and rising star, Nikita Ivanov. The Russian boxer dominated the light heavyweight final and defended his Bocskai throne in Debrecen.
The heavyweight final was held between two youngsters and new hopes: 18-year-old talented Teymur Mammadov of Azerbaijan and Poland’s newcomer at international level Michal Olas, who has been boxing only since 2009. The hectic and close fight finished 3:2 with Mammadov’s unexpected victory paving the way to the European Youth Championships in August.
Former AIBA Youth World Champion 20-year-old Erislandy Savon of Cuba triumphed over Romania’s World Combat Games silver medalist Mihai Nistor in the super heavyweight final. The Romanian ringside abandoned the unequal fight after three minutes and Savon claimed the second Cuban gold medal in Debrecen.

Colin Lynes Returns Victories - Defeats Bradley Pryce

Colin Lynes Returns With Victory Over Bradley Pryce And Eyes Early Title Shot.
On Saturday night former IBO Light Welterweight Champion of the World Colin Lynes made his welcome return to the ring, against former British and Commonwealth Champion Bradley Pryce, at the Matchroom Sports promoted John Watson-Anthony Crolla clash for the vacant British Lightweight title.
In spite of being designated as the opponent Colin showed that the ten months out of the sport had not affected him one iota, neither had the move from Light Welterweight to Welterweight, if anything it improved his performance in the later rounds.
Considering Bradley Pryce had been in championship training, for a shot at Sam Webb’s British Light Middleweight Crown, Colin easily dominated the first five rounds with crisp jabs and heavy straight rights.
Pryce came back strong in the sixth and tried to bully his way through Colin. Pryce won his first round of the contest by being by far more assertive than he had in the early rounds as well as landing some telling shots.
More of the same came in the seventh and at one time Pryce managed to corral Colin on the ropes. Pryce’s late charge was paying dividends but at this point he really needed a knockout to stand any chance of securing the win.
Pryce kept the pressure up in the final round but Colin was savvy and just plain boxed his way to a well earned points victory.
Earlier today I spoke with Colin on phone about the fight, as well as his future plans. “I’m really, really pleased. It was a calculated risk but we knew we were right in ourselves and knew I was ready for up to ten rounds. So it’s all good and it’s onwards and upwards and we’ll start looking for titles.
I well won it, but I was treated like the away fighter. I think they thought that he would deal with me or get me out of there. A lot of boxing people thought the same, as it was my first fight back in nearly a year. Bradley was getting ready for Sam Webb so he was sort of championship training.
People were hoping I would be capable of dealing with him but realistically I think a majority of people thought he would deal with me or get me out of there.
He started to come back in the middle rounds a bit. His corner told him to go out there and get this kid out of there so he had a round or two where he tried to be the bully again but Jimmy instructed me to get back out there and take command of the centre ring, so I did.
There’s still loads to be done, that’s just with me being with Jimmy and Mark since the Summer. They’ve just been getting me into shape and now their talking about getting me back into the gym soon and getting down to some proper championship training, so I’m only going to take a couple of weeks out and then I’ll be back in the gym and next time I’ll be a lot better.”
.
Following the conversation with Colin I spoke with his new coach Jimmy Tibbs, at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, London, who added, “Good comeback fight after ten months out of the ring. Stamina was very well, little bit ring rusty.
I’ve got to say that he fought a man that was ready to fight for the Light Middleweight Championship of Great Britain, that was against Sam Webb.
Bradley Pryce was what you would call a big Light Middleweight and he looked it. You could see the difference in size that night. But there’s no complaint from our side, we knew what we walking into.
He done his job, stuck to his orders. I was very pleased with him
I believe he could have another couple of warm up fights and easily step into the British Welterweight title.
He done a great performance and Mark (co-trainer Mark Tibbs) and myself are both very proud of him.”
Colin and Jimmy have made it crystal clear that Championship honours are well and truly in their sights. I am sure that is pleasing news to his legion of loyal fans, as well as boxing fans the World over, that one of our great champions, and one of the nicest guys in the sport, is set for a revival.
