Montes vs. Ibarra For WBF World Title

NEWS RELEASE – World Boxing Federation a.s.b.l. (WBF)

Pegada Explosiva, Montes vs. Ibarra For WBF World Title

In what promises to be an exciting and fan-friendly fight, fellow Mexicans, Juan Jose Montes and Oscar Ibarra will clash for the vacant World Boxing Federation World Super Flyweight Championship at the Coliseo Olimpico de la UG in Guadalajara on February 25, on a show promoted by Hector Garcia and his HG Boxing.

Both boxers fight in the characteristic come-forward-style that Mexican boxers are known for, both are young and hungry, and both have significant power in their punches, so it seems unlikely that this will be anything but a fantastic fight for the fans to watch.

Now 22 years old, Juan Jose “Goofy” Montes (21-2, 14 KOs) has been a pro since he was only seventeen years old. He won his first seven bouts by stoppage before suffering a setback against Jesus Ceja at the very same venue as he will face Ibarra for the WBF World title.

Montes emerged victories from his next twelve fights, won various regional titles along the way, and defeated several top-class opponents, such as the undefeated Jose Salgado (18-0) whom he impressively knocked out in two rounds, to line up a shot at WBC World Champion Tomas Rojas last year.

In what was not one of his best nights in the ring, Montes retired before the start of the twelfth round against Rojas but gained valuable experience that he will try to utilize in his second shot at a world crown against Ibara. Since losing to Rojas, Montes has come back with two emphatic knockout victories, and believes he is better prepared this time to come out on top.

Just like his opponent on the 25th, Oscar Ibarra (27-5, 18 KOs) has won several regional belts, but unlike Montes he has yet to fight for a world title. After winning thirteen of his first fourteen fights, Ibarra had a horrific 2008, losing three of his four bouts that year.

But from the beginning of 2009 the now 26 year old from Mexico City turned things around and won thirteen straight to establish himself as a world-class operator. There is always a lot of local pride on the line when Mexicans fight each other, and especially when they fight for a world title. But there are never any guarantees that a fight will be entertaining. However, some pairings come as close as is possible to a guarantee, and Montes vs. Ibarra is such a match-up. It is bound to be explosive!

Foster Jr Gets British Title Incentive

STEPHEN FOSTER JR has been handed a crack at the British super-featherweight championship – provided he triumphs next week.

The Salford ace, 31, was on the brink of a world title fight 11 months ago but lost his European title when he was shocked on points by Ermano Fegatilli.

Foster is out to prove he still has plenty to offer in a six rounder against Yauheni Kruhlik (10-13-3)at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Saturday 4th February – his first contest since that setback.

And if Stephen impresses against the durable Belarusian he can expect to face the winner of March’s British title showdown between Gary Buckland and Paul Truscott.

Back in October 2010, Foster (28-3-1) caused the upset of the year knocking out Levan Kirakosyan and promoter Ricky Hatton is backing him to bounce back.

The Hatton Promotions CEO said: “This is a very important fight for Foster Jr.

“He was on the crest of a wave winning the European title when he beat Kirakosyan but after being in such great form lost against Fegatilli.

“There were rumours of illness surrounding the loss but if he bounces back with a win in Bolton I expect to match him against the winner of Buckland-Truscott, giving him a chance to win the British title.”

In the bill topper unbeaten Bury star Scott Quigg makes the first defence of his British super-bantamweight title against Jamie Arthur on the card being televised live on Sky Sports.

On the same bill Joe Murray meets a selected opponent, hopefully for the vacant English featherweight crown.

Rendall Munroe features in a non-title eight rounder when he tackles Argentinian Jose Saez.

The card will also include Stephen Foster Jr v Yauheni Kruhlik. Matty Askin v Attila Palko, Craig Lyon v Yuri Voronin, Jazza Dickens v Michael Ramabaletsa, Feargal McCrory v Jason Nesbitt and Tasif Khan v Selected Opponent.

Boxing starts at 6.15pm and tickets priced at £35, £55 and £75 VIP ringside. You can buy by calling 01925 755 222 Ticketmaster 0844 847 2500 , Ticketline 0844 888 9991 or online www.hattonboxing.com

The Big Rock Out

WBF Twin-Bill In Atlanta

On December 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center´s Thomas Murphy Ballroom in Atlanta, Sports Fan Properties, Shea Bailey Promotions and Delgado Boxing Promotions will present two World Boxing Federation (WBF) North American title fights on a card billed as “The Big Rock Out”.
Former World-title-challenger Paul “The Truth” Delgado will take on experienced former Indiana State champion Ruben Galvan for the welterweight version, and Tyrese Hendrix clash with Chris Gray for the Light Welterweight championship.
Only nine months ago Atlanta-native Delgado, 25-11-1 (4), travelled to Slovenia to fight IBF World Champion Jan Zaveck, but returned without the title. He is now starting a new campaign for a second crack at a world crown, and he hopes that beating Galvan for the WBF North American belt will be a nice first step.
A true veteran of the game, Ruben “The Modern Day Warrior” Galvan, 27-19-4 (10), has fought some of the sport’s biggest names. From Jorge Paez to Paul Spadafora, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to Zab Judah, Galvan has shared a ring with them, and as late as this October he proved his durability by going the distance with highly touted undefeated contender Vernon Paris.
“I have been following Galvan over the past few years and I think we will match up well”, said Delgado. “He’s been in the ring with some talented boxers, but our plan is to take him out into the deep waters and see if he’ll be able to survive.”
In the evenings co-main event Tyrese Hendrix, 20-3-1 (9), from nearby Gainesville, will not get an easy night against tough trialhorse Chris Gray, 13-16-1 (1), another visiting fighter who has seen it all and been in with some very prominent names. Gray actually hold wins over highly ranked Carson Jones, and then undefeated prospect Brian Mihtar.
Earlier this year Gray went the distance with Olympic Silver medalist Ricardo Williams Jr, and Hendrix knows he cant take the man from Baton Rouge lightly:
“Gray will be very tough and will be coming to fight. He is known for his chin and we are going to find out just how good it is”, said Hendrix.

The show will be completed by no less than ten well-matched undercard fights, and the promoters are expecting a big turn-out for what will be one of the biggest promotions in Atlanta history.

Malta National Boxing Championship Belt Unveiled

MALTA BOXING COMMISSION

Gzira, Malta - Monday, 10th October 2011

Malta National Boxing Championship Belt Unveiled

Whilst the Malta Boxing Commission may have only become the official professional boxing sanctioning organisation for the Republic of Malta a matter of four months, their determination to establish pro boxing in the Islands is clearly evident, as today MBC President Alexander Zammit unveiled the first ever Malta National Championship belt.

The centerpiece of the new belt, which is crafted from solid Bronze, features an enameled background, in the red and white colours of the Maltese National flag, with a Falcon as well as the Malta Boxing Commission and the legend Champion raised in Bronze.

Both MBC licensed and ex-pat Maltese boxers licensed overseas will be eligible to register their intention to contest the Malta National Championships, which will be for all weight classes, from January 2012.

On unveiling the new Malta National Championship belt MBC President Mr. Zammit said, “It’s truly exciting times for professional boxing here in Malta.

It is exactly four months to the day since we, the Malta Boxing Commission, became affiliated with the European Boxing Union, yet here we are in the position to unveil the first Malta National Professional Boxing Championship belt.

Currently we are aware of eight boxers that are eligible to compete for the titles, hopefully over the coming months there will not only be more boxers applying for their professional license with the MBC, but also further Maltese boxers that are living abroad will register their interest in competing for the Championship in their homeland.

We are one hundred percent committed to this new Championship and eagerly look forward to the first National title fight, which hopefully will take place some time in 2012.”
