Mike Jones training camp
Undefeated welterweight contender Mike Jones, of Philadelphia, PA, opened up his training camp at the 10th Round Gym in Fairless Hills, PA, last week in preparation for his Nov. 13 fight with Jesus Soto-Karass at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX. The Jones vs. Soto-Karass fight opens up the pay-per-view telecast that night on a card which features Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title in the main event.
Among Jones’ sparring partners are fellow-Philadelphians Gabriel Rosado and Raymond Serrano. Rosado (14-5, 8 K0s) is on the verge of his own world ranking at junior middleweight while Serrano (13-0, 6 K0s) is quietly moving up through the welterweight division.

Commonwealth Boxing - Boxing Gold for Northern Ireland
First Boxing Gold for Northern Ireland in 16 years
Paddy Barnes (NIR) won the Gold medal in the Light Flyweight (49kg) at the Delhi 2010 competition on Wednesday.
This was Northern Ireland’s first Gold medal in Boxing since 1994, when Jim Webb (NIR) and Neil Sinclair (NIR) won Gold in the Light Middleweight and Welterweight respectively.
Northern Ireland’s last Boxing medals (two) were won in 1998.
Jafet Uutoni (NAM) clinched the Silver medal, only the fourth Namibian medal in Boxing.
Uutoni won Gold in this event in Melbourne 2006, making him the first Namibian with two Boxing medals to his name.
Northern Ireland also bagged a second Gold in the Welterweight category.
“The Olympic Bronze was great but with this Gold I’m the champion. It’s been the best year of my sporting life with the European Gold and now this,” said barnes about treasuring his Commonwealth Games Gold medal more highly than his Olympic Bronze.
Patrick Gallagher (NIR) surprised even himself by taking the Welterweight (69kg) title with a comprehensive 11-6 victory over Callum Smith (ENG).
A jubilant Gallagher celebrated by performing a cartwheel on the canvas before climbing up to a nearby stand to embrace a small group of Irish supporters.
Asked whether he expected to win Gold, Gallagher said, “Big time. I wanted to come here and do my best and now I’m going away with a Gold medal.”
“It was worries and more worries. I just knew I had to dig in,” he said on being tied at 5-5 going into the Final round of his Gold medal bout.
After his defeat of Uutoni, Barnes had declared that he expected Northern Ireland’s five finalists to make a clean sweep of the Gold medals.
It was all going to plan until light-Heavyweight Thomas McCarthy (NIR) was at the receiving end of an 8-1 pasting from the hard-hitting gloves of Callum Johnson (SCO) in the Heavyweight (81kg) category.
England captain Thomas Stalker scored a highly impressive 11-3 win over Scotland’s Josh Taylor at Lightweight (60kg).
