Guerrero vs Aydin - A few days before his big showdown with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, welterweight Selcuk Aydin has warned people not to be surprised when he beats the hometown favorite on Saturday night in San Jose, California. “Many see me as a longshot in the fight against Guerrero. I’ve read that it would be a big surprise if I should win on Saturday. But that’s only because people don’t know who I am and what I can do. I’m Selcuk Aydin. I’m the world champion. I’m certainly no underdog. And that I win on Saturday shouldn’t surprise anyone!” Aydin has complained several times in recent weeks that the American media doesn’t pay enough attention to him. “After Saturday, everyone will know who Selcuk Aydin is!” he stated.

Guerrero, Aydin public workout - Former three-division world champion Robert Guerrero and undefeated number one rated WBC welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin showed their skills on Tuesday at San Jose Boxing & Fitness during a public media workout in preparation for Saturday’s clash for the vacant WBC interim welterweight world championship at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Sherrington-Campas Presser - Les Sherrington and Yori Boy Campas came face to face at the final press conference today at Lauxes restaurant. Both camps are highly confident that they are going to take out the win and it has really set the scene for a great spectacle. Boxing News in Brief - April 7

altLatest Boxing News in Brief – Thursday 7th April – for: Don King Coliseum, David Lemieux, The Klitschkos,More muscle for Manny, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., Team Gevor wants new judges, Rivera Fight Rescheduled,Green vs Tarver is on, Fight Club OC, Solis still in the hospital

Don King Coliseum - Yesterday Wednesday legendary boxing promoter Don King was in Mexico City to join municipal authorities of Texcoco, Estado de Mexico, WBC President Jose Sulaiman and other key members of the WBC to inaugurate the new Don King Coliseum at the Feria Internacional del Caballo. Three world championship fights are already scheduled for the arena to be presented by Dr. Fausto Daniel Garcia’s “Boxing Gala” Promotions.

Unbeaten middleweight contender David Lemieux (25-0, 24 KO’s), faces Marco Antonio Rubio, this Friday at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. This will be a WBC middleweight title eliminator bout with the winner of the fight becoming the mandatory challenger for the winner of the June 4th bout between WBC champion Sebastian Zbik and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The Klitschkos have finally decided which brother is fighting WBA heavyweight champion David Haye on June 25th or July 2nd, and which brother gets Tomasz Adamek later on in the year in Poland. Wladimir will be the one facing Haye next, while Vitali will take on Adamek in a fight that will possibly take place in September. The Adamek fight is contingent on him beating 37-year-old journeyman Kevin McBride this Saturday night. Adamek shouldn’t have any problems in that fight unless he runs into one of McBride’s big shots before he runs out of steam around the 3rd round .

More muscle for Manny - According to Abs-cbn news, Alex Ariza, the strength and conditioning coach for Manny Pacquiao, is looking to add more muscle bulk for the Filipino’s May 7th bout against fading 39-year-old Shane Mosley in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ariza reportedly wants to make Pacquiao’s muscles more dense, which he feels will act as a cushion for the shots from Mosley.

WBO Jr. Featherweight Champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. will have his 30 day weigh-in and a public workout tomorrow (April 7) at the Miguel J. Frau Gym, adjacent to the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The weigh-in will be at noon followed by the workout in preparation for his upcoming mandatory title defense against former three-time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce to be held May 7 at the MGM in Las Vegas. The bout is part of the undercard of Paquiao-Mosley promoted by Top Rank.

Team Gevor wants new judges - Five days before the WBO world championship clash between Robert Stieglitz and Khoren Gevor, the Gevor team has asked for a new set of judges “We don’t want anyone to assume anything,” said manager Peter Schulze, “but I think in the interest of fair and honest sport, the same judges shouldn’t always be assigned every time Robert Stieglitz steps into the ring. The judges proposed for Saturday are almost identical to Robert’s last fight. The WBO should pay better attention that different personnel is used. This is ultimately about the credibility of the organization and the sport itself. We’re assuming no evil intentions, but we’re addressing the issue now – in advance of the fight – so it isn’t discussed after the fight, if there should be a close decision.”

Solis still in the hospital - Heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis is still at “St. Wolfgang Hospital” in Bad Griesbach (Germany) waiting for his next knee surgery after suffering a bad knee injury in the WBC heavyweight champioship bout against Vitali Klitschko on March 19th. In a first surgery the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee had been replaced and his meniscus had been sewed. On April 15th the articular cartilage damage will be fixed.

Green vs Tarver is on - IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (31 wins/3 losses) will put his world title on the line when he steps onto the canvas to face former light-heavyweight world champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (28 wins/6 loses) at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, July 20. Green is returning to the boxing ring after he had an operation to remove his appendix and a large abscess the size of a softball after suffering severe stomach cramps whilst holidaying down south with family over Christmas and the New Year period that threatened to end his career, however the 38 year-old West Australian declared he is fighting fit and ready for the biggest challenge of his career.

Fight Club OC - Junior welterweight Antonio Orozco (9-0, 6 KOs) of San Diego, California by way of Mexico will step back into the ring on Thursday, April 21st against Hensley ‘The Bruiser’ Strachan (5-8-1, 1 KO) of the Bahamas at the Hangar at the Orange County Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, California, in the next edition of ‘Fight Club OC’ which is being presented by Roy Englebrecht Promotions.

Rivera Fight Rescheduled - The Paxton Promotions fight card previously scheduled for April 9th and headlined by Worcester’s own former three-time world champion, Jose Antonio Rivera (39-6, 24 KOs) has been postponed and rescheduled for Friday night May 20th at the Worcester Palladium in downtown Worcester, MA. Some group came in and they wanted to put it on in a particular country and Mayweather asked for a number that was so high, it indicated that he didn’t want to fight. Take a guess at the number that he asked for, for himself? One hundred. That’s right, $100 million. F–k, I mean, who’s going to pay him $100 million? I mean, unless Manny Pacquiao fights for nothing, how can you do the fight? He [talking about Mayweather] can’t say no, he doesn’t want the fight, so you price yourself out.”

Both fans and the press alike expressed outrage saying that Munoz had a ‘clear superiority’ throughout the fight and the outcome ‘hurt not only the credibility in the judges but the whole of Uruguayan boxing,’ prompting the government, through the ministry of Turisimo and Sports, to request the change. Two of the three judges scored for Namus by 97-93 and 96-95 and a third had it a draw.
