  • Hot Ticket Sales For Brook vs Hatton - Less than three days into the sale of Kell Brook’s fight with Matthew Hatton at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on March 17 and the ticket sales have smashed through the 5,000 barrier. Promoter Eddie Hearn announced the huge all-British Welterweight clash between Brook and Hatton on Wednesday afternoon and the phone lines at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield and at Matchroom Sport have been buzzing ever since with fans snapping up tickets for the event. The Arena was set up for 9,000 fans but after the huge demand for tickets, it is likely that Hearn will open up the full capacity at some point next week.

  • NSAC Revokes Casamayor’s Boxing License - The Nevada Athletic Commission has revoked the boxing license of former world champion Joel Casamayor after he tested positive for marijuana following his KO8 loss to Timothy Bradley last November. The 40-year-old Casamayor must pay a fine of $10,000 and may not request a new Nevada license for 12 months.

  • Mayweather Only Wants Pacquiao - WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he’s only targeting Manny Pacquiao right now and nobody else. In an interview at fighthype.com, Mayweather states that he doesn’t want Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto or a rematch against Juan Manuel Marquez. - Mayweather says he only wants Pacquiao and is wondering why the Filipino star is ducking him so badly. Mayweather also said his management are probably looking someone else for him to fight on May 5th, but he still prefers the Pacquiao fight.

  • Arum Wants To Deal Directly With Mayweather - “Right now there’s no development,” Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum told the Philippine Star in Manila. “Obviously we’re waiting to hear from the Mayweather people, but we’re prepared to do the fight in May. It will be late in May, but the problem remains the same in that no one from Mayweather’s side would guarantee his purse. I can only guarantee Manny’s purse, but if Floyd wants to make a deal with me then I’m open to that. I can guarantee his purse but I then I will have a share in his revenue.” Arum also told the paper that he needs to discuss an alternate opponent if the Mayweather fight doesn’t happen. - Meanwhile Pacquiao has stated the fight is no problem “as long as it’s a 50/50 split,” and both Arum and chief adviser Mike Koncz have ruled out the 17,000-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, insisting on a special 40,000-seat temporary arena. - On the Mayweather front, Golden Boy has reportedly eliminated Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero from consideration as a possible Floyd opponent, should the Pacman fight not happen.

  • Brandon Gonzales Replaced - Tom Brown, Goossen Tutor Promotions matchmaker, has added a special 8-round super featherweight attraction between two undefeated prospects Guy Robb (7-0, 3 KOs) and Joel Diaz Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs) after Brandon Gonzales pulled out of his January 20 fight against Caleb Truax due to a leg injury. The card, which will be held at the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nev. and broadcast on SHOWTIME, is headlined by a world title bout between WBA super bantamweight world champion Rico Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs), who takes on WBA interim champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KOs). Opening the ShoBox telecast, undefeated Matthew Villanueva (6-0-1, 6 KOs) will fight Mike Ruiz (8-1-1, 3 KOs) in an 8-round junior bantamweight bout.

  • Adamek Says Rematch With Arreola Possible - In an interview with the Polish Times, Former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek (44-2, 28KOs) said he is not ruling out a rematch with Chris Arreola (34-2, 29KOs). Adamek won a twelve round majority decision over Arreola in April 2010. It was one of the more exciting heavyweight encounters in the last few years. Adamek plans to return in March, but then he wants to land a televised opportunity on HBO. If the network requests a rematch with Arreola, Adamek is ready to fight.

  • WBA Orders Rematch Between Khan And Peterson - The World Boxing Association has decided to order an immediate rematch between Khan and the current IBFWBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s). This comes after Khan was beaten by Peterson on December 10th by a 12 round split decision in a fight where Khan was docked two points for pushing off. Khan and his promoters from Golden Boy filed an expensive appeal after the fight, pointing to the point deductions, which they felt was needless and scoring problems and the presence of the mystery man, Mustafa Ameen, who was seen sitting and talking with WBA supervisor Michael Welsh during the fight. Ameen should not have been permitted to sit with Welsh during the fight, says Golden Boy.

  • Burns Defends Title Against Moses - WBO interim lightweight champion Ricky Burns will make his first defense of his belt against former WBA champion Paulus Moses on March 10 at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. Burns, who became Scotland’s first two-weight world champion in twenty years when he sensationally defeated Michael Katsidis last year, makes the first defence of the title on home soil after a year on the road.

  • Negron Returns - Carlos Negron (13-1 and 9KOs) will reprise his career in 2012 by returning to the cruiserweight division, where the fighter hopes become world champion while promising to train in the United States in order to secure better sparring. Negron, standing at 6’6, admits that despite his height, his physique is not the traditional full-span of a heavyweight, which leaves him at a disadvantage against the ‘mastodons’ weighing 240 pounds onwards. “I felt like I was inflated. I will return on February 3 at a function in San Sebastian (Puerto Rico) at 200 pounds. In addition, there are plans to train in U.S. for sparring and to further develop myself as a boxer.

  • Bukom Banku Returns - World Boxing Organization (WBO) African boxer of the year Braimah Kamoko AKA Bukom Banku makes a return to the ring on February 25 when he makes a defence of his WBO Africa Light heavyweight belt against Kenyan Hamza Wandera in Accra. Victory for the unbeaten Kamoko, 22-0, 16 KOs will move him closer to a fight against world champion Nathan Cleverly later in the year. Banku’s fight is the headliner of the first promotion of the year in Ghana put up by Golden Mike Boxing Promotions led by CEO Mike Tetteh slated for the plush Accra International Conference Centre.

  • Salido-Lopez Rematch - The rematch between World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Orlando Salido (37-11-2, 25 KO’s) and Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28 KO’s) will be taking place on March 10th at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This will be another home fight for the 28-year-old Lopez despite the fact that he was badly beaten and stopped in the 8th round last time he fought the 31-year-old Salido last year in April 2011.

Headlining the night is undefeated light heavyweight Blake Caparello (6-0-1, 2 KOs), fresh off his points decision victory in a winner takes all bout over Michael Bolling earlier this month. • Former lightweight champion Juan Diaz (35-4, 17 KO’s) reportedly plans on giving it another shot at resurrecting his career and hopefully capturing another title before he hangs it up. Only 27, Diaz, has lost four out of his last six fights and looked pretty unremarkable in all of the fights. He wants to take on some of the top fighters in the division like Michael Katsidis, Roberto Guerrero, Humberto Soto or Urbano Antillon.

  • Samuel Peter vs. Robert Helenius - Former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s) has a make or break fight on Saturday against unbeaten 6’6″ German based contender Robert Helenius (14-0, 9 KO’s) at the Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The final judges’ scores were 118-111, 117-113, and 117-112.

  • Mijares for May defense - Mexican star Cristian Mijares is expected to defend his IBF super flyweight world crown on May 14 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, against a challenger to be named. This would be a voluntary defense, although sources say Mijares may want to go straight to official IBF challenger Raul ‘The Cobra’ Martinez (28-1, 16 KOs), who earned the title shot by winning an eliminator against Mexican Rodrigo Guerrero. Frenchman Malik Bouziane (13-1-1, 1 KO) had previously been mentioned for the first defense of Mijares, who won the belt in December against compatriot Juan Alberto Rosas.

  • Keb-Hernandez signed - The bout between current champion Gilberto Keb Baas, of Yucatan, and his challenger Adrian “The Confessor” Hernandez, of the State of Mexico, will be held on April 30th in a venue in the State of Mexico to be announced in a few days. • Hanna Gabriel vs. Melisenda Perez - Sampson Boxing LLC President, Sampson Lewkowicz announced from Las Vegas, Nevada the privilege of hosting the REMATCH boxing event scheduled for Thursday, March, 31 2011 at the inauguration week of the Costa Rica National Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica. In the main event, undefeated WBO Jr. Middleweight Champion from Costa Rica, Hanna Gabriel vs. (Mexican) pugilist Melisenda Perez. The rematch was born as a promise between the two pugilists after an exciting first bout. Sampson stated: “I’m proud to be part of the festivities in Costa Rica that would not have been made possible without the support & loyalty of Manager/Cousin Kathy Sanchez Cunningham as well as Ezequiel Obando, Trainer of Hanna Gabriel.”

  • Carl Froch vs Glen Johnson - The second “Super Six” semi-final, between WBC 168-pound champ Carl Froch and ageless wonder Glen Johnson, will go ahead on June 4th at Atlantic City, New Jersey. Originally looking like going ahead on May 21st, the new date will allow both boxers a little extra time in which to prepare for what could well be an extremely hard night’s work for both fighters.

  • Marco “Captain” Huck will defend his WBO Cruiserweight Title against Ran Nakash on April 2. After Giacobbe Fragomeni pulled out due to a cut injury from sparring, Huck (31-1, 23 KOs) will now make his sixth defence against the unbeaten challenger from Israel (25-0, 18 KOs). “I don´t care about the late change,” Huck said. “It will not exactly be a walk in the park, but as the world champion, I will find a way to deal with it. I will be prepared for Nakash and I will defeat him just like I defeat anybody who wants to take the belt away from me.

  • Golovkin vs N’Jikam - According to Oleg Hermann, manager of sparkling Kazakh middleweight banger Gennady Golovkin (20-0, 17 KOs), his protégé will fight Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (25-0, 17 KOs) of France in his next outing. A thrilling clash between two undefeated prospects will also be a partial unification of the WBA title: N’Jikam, 27, is the WBA interim champion, and the former amateur superstar Golovkin, 28, holds the “regular” title. Quotes are necessary as the World Boxing Association not-so-surprisingly has three beltholders in this particular weight class. The “super” title belongs to German stalwart Felix Strum (35-2-1, 15 KOs), 32.

  • Middleweight contender Benjamin Simon suffered a serious hand injury in the last week of sparring for his IBF elimination bout against Sam Soliman (scheduled for April 1st in Berlin). “The capsule of Simon’s left hand is bruised with odema in tenderparts and an intraarticular haematom“, said Dr. med. Robert Stelzer adding that Simon will be out of training – and fighting, of course – for „at least 6 – 8 weeks“. “Iron Ben“ recognized that something was wrong when he had to stop training due to a terrible pain in his left hand followed by an immediate swelling. Still the IBF intercontinental champion was shocked when he heard the diagnosis: “This is simply terrible“, says Simon. „I had hoped that they can do something to make sure that I can fight. I am in perfect shape and very well prepared for Soliman. I want this fight. This is my big chance.“ Simon’s trainer and manager Robert Rolle adds, “Of course, this is a shock for Ben. I will do my best to help him deal with this injury. This is sport. Injuries can happen any time. It’s a pity because I am sure that Ben would have knocked Soliman out which would have taken us one step closer to challenging IBF champion Sebastian Sylvester. But there’s nothing we can do about it at the moment. We hope that the hand heals as fast as possible so we can find a new date for the fight against Soliman.“ (Source Boxing Scene)

Some group came in and they wanted to put it on in a particular country and Mayweather asked for a number that was so high, it indicated that he didn’t want to fight. Take a guess at the number that he asked for, for himself? One hundred. That’s right, $100 million. F–k, I mean, who’s going to pay him $100 million? Both fans and the press alike expressed outrage saying that Munoz had a ‘clear superiority’ throughout the fight and the outcome ‘hurt not only the credibility in the judges but the whole of Uruguayan boxing,’ prompting the government, through the ministry of Turisimo and Sports, to request the change. Two of the three judges scored for Namus by 97-93 and 96-95 and a third had it a draw. • Former -WBA flyweight champ Takefumi Sakata has announced that he is hanging up his gloves for good today (Thursday) in Tokyo, Japan. Having failed to win back his WBA 112-pound belt from compatriot Daiki Kameda this past September, Sakata, 30, was deeply considering whether to go on fighting. The busy-punching fighter managed to win the WBA belt in his fourth attempt, having lost twice to Lorenzo Parra both by a majority decision here and to Roberto Vasquez by a split verdict in Paris. The persistent Japanese finally gained the world belt by stopping his grudge rival Parra in Tokyo in 2007. Since then, he successfully defended it four times against Vasquez (W12), Denkaosen Kaowichit (D12), Shingo Yamaguchi (W12) and Hiroyuki Hisataka (W12). I’m always in shape anyway. Me fighting Chisora first is good promotion for the fight with Haye because this guy is also British and very loud. He [Haye] could give [Ruslan] Chagaev step-aside money and then I’m going to be there with nobody to fight.

.
