- Reid for Prizefighter - Former WBC super middleweight champion Robin Reid came through his first fight in over three years on Saturday night to continue his preparation for Prizefighter Super-Middleweights II at Liverpool’s Olympia on Wednesday 23 March. The 40 year-old claimed a points decision against Jamie Ambler at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, with the ‘Grim Reaper’ tasting action for the first time since losing a British title fight against Carl Froch in November 2007. Reid was heavily linked with a spot in the line-up of the last event – the Light-Heavyweights II in February – and after conversations with Matchroom Sport’s managing director Eddie Hearn, he decided that he wanted to get back into action when the 17th edition of the eight-man, one-night tournaments is staged at the Liverpool Olympia.
- Perez vs. Abdoul - Irish based Cuban heavyweight Mike “The Rebel” Perez will be out to impress UK fight fans this Friday when he takes on two time European title challenger, Ismail Abdoul over 8 rounds at the Doncaster Dome. - Green considers retirement - Current IBO Cruiserweight championship holder Danny Green, 37, is pondering retirement after he underwent emergency surgery in early January. Green, who holds a profesional record of 37(27)-3-0, has reportedly had difficulty returning to full fitness after a large abscess was removed from his abdomen. ”The doctors have left it up to me. They’ve advised me to just see how I feel and really the ball’s in my court. - ”I’m not going to make any stupid decisions. If I can go on I’d like to, if I can’t, well then I’m a realist. I realize that it wouldn’t be easy to just walk away from it but I’ll have to do what my body’s telling me to do.
- Juanma confirms fighting at 130 - Undefeated WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-0, 27 KOs), confirmed that 2011 will be his last year at 126 pounds and he will be headed up to the junior lightweight division in 2012. “We have two fights at 126, Orlando Salido and a rematch with Rafael Marquez,” stated Juanma. “I hope to go to 130 pounds for 2012.” He added that he expects to make stops in the 135lb and 140lb divisions, as well. A bout with Yuriorkis Gamboa could come late this year or in 2012, but Gamboa must first face the dangerous Chris John.
- If Manny Pacquiao can get by his next opponent Shane Mosley on May 7th, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum plans on matching his fighter Pacquiao against Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) in his next fight if Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t available to fight Pacquiao. Arum realizes that Marquez, 37, is the best option available for Pacquiao if Mayweather isn’t available to fight. Speaking with Scoop Malinowski at boxinginsider.com, Arum said “After each fight we take a good look to see if Mayweather’s going to be available. If he is, that’s the fight we want. If he isn’t, we go to the next option.
- Chavez Jr. vs. Zbik - Number #1 ranked WBC middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) will be facing undefeated WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10 KO’s) on June 4th without a tune-up bout to get ready for the fight. Chavez Jr., the son of former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez, was supposed to be taking a tune-up fight against David Medina. It looks like they decided that fight was either too risky or wouldn’t given Chavez Jr. enough time to get ready for the title shot against Zbik.
- Foreman vs. Wolak - WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-1, 8 KO’s) will be taking on Pawel Wolak (28-1, 18 KO’s) on Saturday night 3 / 5 at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Foreman-Wolak fight will be taking place on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Ricardo Mayorga fight.
- Alex Ariza is Not Going Anywhere - Trainer Freddie Roach has said that strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza will remain with Team Pacquiao despite rumors that the Colombian was on his way out. Roach, speaking to BoxingScene.com/Inquirer from his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles squelched the rumors of the past few weeks. - The multi-titled trainer said “everything is great, real fine” even as he indicated that Ariza would leave for the Philippines this week to begin working with Pacquiao. - Ariza and Pacquiao spoke last night and Ariza said the pound-for-pound king wanted him to fly to General Santos City where he begins early training for the showdown against three-time champion Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 7.
- Khurtsidze vs Cendrowski For The Vacant IBO Title - An opponent was named for world-ranked Georgian middleweight Avtandil Khurtsidze (22-2-2, 13 KOs), who headlines a local fight card in Tbilisi, Georgia, on March 13. WBA #1 ranked 160-pounder will take on experienced Polish battler Mariusz Cendrowski (21-2-2, 8 KOs) for the vacant IBO middleweight title, vacated by Peter Mandfredo Jr.
- Donaire vs. Moreno in unification bout - WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s) will likely be fighting a unification bout on May 28th against WBA World bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (30-1-1, 10 KO’s), according to boxing news from the ringtv.
- Former IBF/WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KO’s) will be fighting on May 21st on the undercard of the rematch between WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins at a still to be determined venue. The fight will be shown on HBO, and Dawson, if he wins his fight on the undercard, he’ll be fighting the winner of the Pascal vs. Hopkins bout.
- Kirkland vs. Gibbs on Alvarez-Hatton undercard this Saturday - Unbeaten former junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (25-0, 22 KO’s) will be fighting this Saturday night 3 / 5 against 32-year-old Ahsanti Gibbs (10-2, 4 KO’s) in a scheduled eight round bout on the undercard of the Saul Alvarez vs. Matthew Hatton bout at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California.

- Gesta wants Luis Ramos fight - After his impressive win over Genaro Trazancos last week in San Francisco, undefeated up and coming lightweight prospect Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (21-0-1, 11KOs) is more than ready to step up the level of competition. Having to face the overmatched Trazancos twice in less than twelve months because of a lack of willing opponents, the southpaw Gesta has a couple of fighters in his sights who he hopes to face off in a ring in the near future.

The new date is said to be May 21. The possibility exists that Cleverly might still fight on April 2 with former cruiserweight Enzo Maccarinelli, who would move to light heavyweight.

- Will Mayweather Return To The Ring In July - Making the rounds right now is a strong rumor that says Mayweather could well be fighting again in July, in South Africa. Web site Fight Hype.com broke the story, when Jeff Mayweather spoke to them and confirmed that his nephew is in talks with the daughter of the legendary Nelson Mandela. The giant political figure celebrates his 93rd birthday in July and there is the possibility that Mayweather will fight in South Africa, in a tribute to the iconic figure.
- Klitschko vs. Solis: will HBO pick up this fight - By Jason Kim: For the time being it’s looking like HBO won’t be picking up the March 19th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and challenger Odlanier Solis in Germany. The fight will be shown by an obscure premium cable channel called EPIX. That’s a channel that’s not carried by Comcast, and it’s thus the Klitschko-Solis fight won’t be seen by many Americans unless HBO steps up and agrees to buy this fight to show to American boxing fans.
- According to speculation from the LA Times, WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez could be on the verge of leaving his promotional company Golden Boy Promotions to get a shot against Manny Pacquiao.However, Bob Arum, of Top Rank Promotions, is saying he doesn’t want to promote Marquez. But who knows? If Marquez leaves GBP, he would be a free agent like Shane Mosley, who recently went out on his own to get a big mega fight with Pacquiao on May 7th.
- IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko could be potentially pulling out of the Chisora fight for the second time to take a unification mega bout against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye on July 2nd.

- Hopkins-Pascal - By Dan Ambrose: Having failed to beat WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal the first time around last December, 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins has been given another shot at trying to beat Pascal by the WBC, who ordered the rematch, and is making Chad Dawson wait a little while longer to get his rematch with Pascal. If Hopkins can’t do it this time, he needs to move on and look for some other fights because he blew it last time out by getting knocked down twice and having to settle for a draw.
- Jose Antonio Aguirre Announces Retirement - By Miguel Rivera - Junior flyweight contender José Antonio Aguirre (35-10, 21KOs), 35-years-old, has announced his retirement from boxing. Aguirre made a decision to leave the sport after failing to win the WBC championship from Gilberto Keb on Saturday in Yucatan, Mexico. Aguirre was stopped in nine rounds. He’s won only two of his last ten bouts since 2005. During the last few years, Aguirre has been plagued by shoulder problems and they continue to bother him. For many years he was one of the best boxers at 105-pounds as the WBC minimumweight champion. He was never able to adapt once moving up in weight to 108-pounds.

Wladimir Klitschko: “My brother and I do not think about retirement”
World heavyweight champions: The Klitschko Brothers continue to dream of conquering all the major championship belts.
Wladimir Klitschko has promised that he will not surrender and will continue to negotiate with David Hay.
The Klitschko’s have made it clear that they will not retire as long as Haye holds the belt.
“My brother and I have always said that our goal is to win the four most prestigious belts in the heavyweight division and we will not deviate from these plans”.
“We will not think about leaving boxing as long as Hay has the champion’s belt, which we lack.
Yes, this year’s meeting seems unlikely, but I keep hoping that he would not retire”.
“What I have to say is, well David can not brag about all his life of “a great fight with Harrison” Such an early retirement from boxing will be a betrayal to all his fans “- said Wladimir Klitschko
John Duddy Announces Retirement
I used to love going to the gym. Now it’s a chore
Middleweight contender John Duddy has announced that he is retiring from boxing effective immediately, thus rejecting a $100,000 purse for a proposed March 12 showdown with Irish compatriot Andy Lee. “After a great deal of soul-searching, I have decided to retire from boxing,” said Duddy in a statement. “I no longer have the enthusiasm and willingness to make the sacrifices that are necessary to honor the craft of prizefighting. I used to love going to the gym. Now it’s a chore. I wish I still had the hunger, but I don’t. The fire has burned out. And I know myself well enough to know that it won’t return….I give you my word, I will not come back.”
