Towers To Topple Britain’s Best

alt

UNBEATEN heavyweight Richard Towers will be targeting Britain’s top heavyweights by the end of this year.

That is the expectation of Hatton Promotions head man Ricky Hatton, who is tipping the 6ft 9in Sheffield man to crush his giant rivals in the heavyweight division.

Towers, 32, bids for his 13th successive professional win at Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield on Saturday March 24 when he boxes an eight rounder against a selected opponent.

Before long ‘The Hitman’ expects the Sheffield man to be facing Tyson Fury and David Price who are storming up the world rankings.

Hatton said: “The British heavyweight scene is as exciting today as it’s been for years, due to the success of several fighters.

“Recently Tyson and David Price have been getting attention, but I want to have Richard hot on their heels over the forthcoming months.

“I feel ready to let Richard off the leash now and he certainly won’t disappoint, and he I am sure he will back up my belief in him to go a long way on our bumper Sheffield show.”

In the main event local hero Ryan Rhodes and will face Belarussian sensation Sergey Rabchenko for the vacant European light-middleweight crown. The Sky Sports televised show will also feature Gary Buckland’s British super-featherweight title defence against Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott.

Local unbeaten local ticket sellers Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins will be among the prospects in action, along with Jack Perry and Maxi Hughes.

Boxing starts at 6.15pm and the remaining few tickets are priced at £35 general admission, £55 floor seating, £75 ringside and £100 VIP Ringside. Rhodes V Rabchenko For The European Title

HATTON PROMOTIONS stable-mates Ryan Rhodes and Sergey Rabchenko will meet for the vacant European light-middleweight title in Sheffield on Saturday 24th March.

The brilliant 12 round battle is likely to be one the best contests staged in Britain this year and shows Hatton Promotions commitment to matching the very best against each other.

Rhodes will be delighted to have home advantage at Ponds Forge Arena, and hopes to deliver a stunning performance to win back his old crown.

Belarussian Rabchenko, 25, who spends much of his time training in Manchester is unbeaten in 19 fights – with 14 victories inside the distance.

Ryan, 35, won the title when by beating his friend Jamie Moore in October 2009 in a memorable war, but was stripped after one defence because of injury.

Last June, Rhodes stepped up to world level and was stopped in the 12th round by Mexican star Saul Alvarez in a WBC title challenge.

And Hatton Promotions head Ricky Hatton has no doubt what awaits the winner, saying: “I am sure I will get the victor a world title fight.

“It is an exceptional fight between two special boxers and it fills me with excitement at what these lads will serve up for fans.

“Sergey is one of the best young talents in Europe and Ryan might be getting on in years, but his hunger and desire hasn’t diminished.

“He proved that when he beat Siarhei Khomiski in November. He is raring to go and determined to see off Rabchenko.”

The Sky Sports televised show is already close to a complete sell-out and will also feature Gary Buckland’s British super-featherweight title against Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott.

On the undercard Sheffield heavyweight Richard Towers will have his first ten rounder and the card will also include unbeaten local ticket sellers Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins.

Boxing starts at 6.15pm and the remaining tickets are priced at £35, £55 and £75 VIP ringside. You can buy by calling 01925 755 222 , Ticketmaster 0844 847 2500 , Ticketline 0844 888 999, any boxer on the bill or online www.hattonboxing.com

All Change For Turner - McCauley Out, Frontin In This Wednesday

All Change For Turner - McCauley Out, Frontin In This Wednesday

In the World of pro boxing nothing, but nothing, is set in stone until the very moment you actually enter the ring on fight night. So many things can, and do, go awry that it’s definitely a matter of be prepared for any occurrence, especially a last minute change of opponent, which is just what has happened to Welterweight prospect Freddie Turner this week.

This coming Wednesday Freddie was due to face British Masters Light Middleweight Champion Kevin McCauley in a non-championship bout. Without doubt a tough assignment for the Canning Town youngster with just four pro bouts, all wins, under his belt, but with legendary father and son team Jimmy and Mark Tibbs masterminding his preparations Freddie was more than confident he was thoroughly prepared in every way for the showdown.

Then on Friday, just as Freddie began to wind down his camp, he receives the call that instead of McCauley he’ll be facing a different opponent and yet another reigning champ, this time the holder of the International Masters Light Welterweight crown, Edmonton based Mauritian Michael Frontin.

As luck would have it Freddie is more than a little aware of Frontin and his fight style, as well as having been ringside when TRAD TKO Boxing Gym mate Dean ‘Irish Lightning’ Byrne fought him in October, as such he has easily been able to alter his fight plan and is clearly relishing the prospect of adding Frontin’s scalp to his belt, as was clear when he spoke earlier, “Yeah, I’ve got a change of opponent from Kevin McCauley to Michael Frontin.

He was a good amateur, he won a silver medal in the Commonwealths, boxed Frankie Gavin in the final.

I’ve watched him, he’s slippery, got a good jab, he knows what he’s doing. Yeah he’s good, he’s good.

His last fight was against Patrick Liam Walsh, I thought he won it but they gave it to the other kid. I thought he’d done enough to nick it.

He has got a good round and a bad round, so hopefully I’ll get him on a bad round.

He fought Dean Byrne, on Byrne’s British debut, he had a couple of good rounds in that, he gave Dean problems in the fourth and the fifth and later on in the fight so he has got ability, I mean taking on a 14 and O fighter that came from the Wild Card Gym in LA and giving him trouble shows he must be handy.

It’s a good step up, which is what I need. I don’t want to just fight journeymen that just tuck up so you can’t get them, I want someone that’s going to let go so I can find the gaps and hopefully catch him, yeah.”

Freddie Turner, against Michael Frontin, features on the Francis and George Warren’s Queensberry promotions event, headlined by the British and Commonwealth Featherweight title clash between Lee Selby and John Simpson. takes place at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, and broadcast live on BoxNation (Sky platform Ch. 456 and Virgin 546), on Wednesday the 14th December 2011.

Tickets, priced £60 (Ringside) and £40 (Standard Seated), are available now on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com or from the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA
