Battle at the Beach - WBC fights in Pattaya
Thailand‘s premier resort city Pattaya on 2 January will stage the annual “Battle of the Beach” with a first class card of international Muaythai combatants. This year the event will be taged at Mike‘s Department Store featuring 8 contests. The main contest will be a championship showdown for the WBC Muaythai Supermiddleweight International Title between Canadian Alain “The Crusader” Sylvester and Malaysian Alex Lim.
Hashim is a top ranked Lumpinee Stadium fighter with a first class record of 34 fights, 31 wins, two losses and 1 draw record, while Lim is an experienced journeyman from Malaysia. On the same card the WBC International Heavyweight Champion Ricardo van de Boss will be fighting along with Robie Hagaman who is Holland‘s hottest teenage talent trained by legend Muaythai Dutchman Ramon Dekker.

WBC Youth World minimumweight title
WBC #27 Straw-weight Yodgoen Tor Chalermchai (5-0, 3 KOs) won a unanimous decision over PABA #6 Jetly Purisima to retain his WBC youth 105 lb title. Local news reported that this bout was a close affair but the Thai fighter was favored because of his more accurate punches. Scored: 96-94,95-94 and 98-92 for the retaining champion. Yodgoen, a former Muay thai champion, kept his WBC youth belt for the second time. In other action, former WBC flyweight champion Medgoen Singsurat (69-6, 47 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Pathomchai Pathomphothong. Also, WBC #38 light flyweight Yodmongkol Wor Saengthep (9-2, 7 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Justin Golden Boy of Indonesia. This event was promoted by Petchyindee Boxing Promotion.

- Friday 24 September - Howard Eastman upset (Guyana) - Former world title challenger Howard Eastman (46-7, 36 KO’s) of Guyana surprisingly lost to countryman Kwesi Jones (6-1, 3 KOs) by four round unanimous decision. The middleweight bout took place at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, in Georgetown, Guyana. Eastman unsuccessfully challenged Bernard Hopkins for the unified middleweight world titles in 2005. In other action hard punching cruiserweight Shawn Cox (11-1, 10 KOs) of Barbados won his first professional bout that went the distance as he unanimously decisioned Leon Gilkes of Guyana in 4 rounds. All of Cox’ prior victories had been by knockout. Cox is currently WBC CABOFE Cruiserweight champion.
