  • Felix Sturm wraps up his training

Three-time middleweight champion and current WBA middleweight super world champion Felix Sturm has wrapped up his training for his upcoming fight against the Irishman Matthew Macklin on June 25 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, today. Preparing for his tenth title defense, Sturm engaged in an intense sparring session and finished his workout on the heavy bag. In an interview with fightnews.com, Strum said: “I really don’t think we’ll go the distance. The fight will end in the second half. With the tempo and intensity this fight is going to have, it can’t possibly last the distance. Somebody will break down later on”.

 

  • Pacquiao vs Mayweather lawsuit update

Today, Federal Magistrate Judge Robert Johnston denied an Emergency Motion filed by Floyd Maywather Jr. and ordered Mayweather to give sworn testimony under oath, beginning tomorrow, June 17. Mayweather is being sued by pound-for-pound champion and Congressman Manny Pacquiao based on Mayweather’s defamatory statements accusing Pacquiao of taking performance-enhancing drugs.

 

  • Fernando Guerrero and Steve “2 Pound” Forbes

ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra will originate from Austin, Texas June 17 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.com when undefeated junior middleweight Fernando Guerrero (21-0, 16 KOs) and former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion Steve “2 Pound” Forbes (35-9, 11 KOs) are featured in co-main events. Friday’s fights will take place at the Erwin Center. Guerrero, coming off a February 10-round decision win over Derrick Findley, will be taking on Oklahoma’s Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer and Forbes, a former IBF junior lightweight champion will take on San Francisco’s Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (13-0-1, 8 KO’s). Forbes is looking to rebound after a February sixth-round technical decision loss against Jo Jo Dan on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

 

  • Froch vs. Ward

The Super Six tournament finals bout between WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) and WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 Ko’s) is tentatively set for October 29th with the fight likely to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

  • Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez

The talking is over, the hard training is done and now it’s time to fight. This Saturday, June 18, at Arena Vicente Fernandez in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez will make his first title defense and put his amazing 36-0-1 record on the line against veteran contender Ryan Rhodes, who is determined to make sure that his first world title shot in nearly 12 years won’t go to waste.

 

  • Happy Birthday “Mano de Piedra” Duran

Panamanian ring legend Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Duran celebrates his 60th birthday. Roberto Carlos Duran Samaniego was born on June 16, 2024 in Panama City and went to win world titles in the lightweight, welterweight, super welterweight and middleweight divisions with 22 world title fights. Duran fought in the five decades, the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000. He was immortalized in the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY in 2007.

 

  • Helenius vs. Liakhovich

Unbeaten heavyweight contender Robert Helenius (15-0, 10 KO’s) will be fighting former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich (25-3, 16 KO’s) on August 27th. The two were supposed to have fought next month in July but Helenius injured his hand while training and will need extra time to get get ready.

 

  • Conyers replaces Yorgey

Hard-hitting jr middleweight Allen Conyers steps in for the injured Harry Joe Yorgey when he takes on Gabriel Rosado in the scheduled 10-round main event Friday evening, July 15, at Bally’s Atlantic City. Yorgey sustained a shoulder injury in training Monday evening and will be out of action for three months. Conyers, 35, has derailed the careers of several promising fighters including James De La Rosa and Derek Ennis. By comparison, Rosado lost a 12-round decision to Ennis last summer for the USBA junior middleweight title.

 

  • Maidana vs. Guerrero

Two time world champion Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) has reportedly signed the contract to face WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KO’s) on August 27th at the HP Pavilion, in San Jose, CA. Maidana has agreed to the contract and will be signing as well for the fight.

Pacquiao Settles Defamation Lawsuit

Terms of settlement are confidential

altManny Pacquiao has settled his defamation lawsuit against Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya on confidential terms. In connection with the dismissal, Mr. Schaefer and Mr. De la Hoya made the following statement: “Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya, on behalf of themselves and Golden Boy Promotions, wish to make it crystal clear that we never intended to claim that Manny Pacquiao has used or is using any performance enhancing drugs, and further state that we do not have any evidence whatsoever of such use. Manny Pacquiao is one of the greatest fighters of all time, and we apologize if anyone construed our prior remarks as in any way claiming or even suggesting that Manny uses or has used performance enhancing drugs.”
