Easy Win Over Noble Leads To Title Shot
By Rio
London - Tuesday, 8th February 2011
Erick Ochieng - Easy Win Over Noble Leads To Title Shot.
On Saturday night Stoke Newington’s exceptional Light Middleweight prospect Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng easily secured his sixth win, albeit not in his usual all action style.
Ochieng’s opponent, the reigning British Masters Light Middleweight Champion Lee ‘Lightning’ Noble, clearly didn’t come to fight, instead he just closed up shop and pulled down the shutters, in a similar way that he did against Ochieng’s Ultrachem TKO Gym mate ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese back in September.
‘The Eagle’ had been ringside when Noble knocked out a tiring McAleese - who had thrown a hundred plus punches for over eight rounds - in the ninth with more or less his first real punch of the fight.
On Saturday Ochieng showed a maturity that belied his tender years, by choosing a more patient route than McAleese, by using his jab to good effect and waiting for the opportunity to open up Noble’s fortress like defense.
After six rounds no real opportunity had arisen and judge Ken Curtis rightfully declared the fight a shutout 60-54 points victory to ‘The Eagle’.
Earlier today Ochieng popped into the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, whilst there he gave his view of the fight as well as announced the exciting news regarding his next fight. “I thank God for the victory man. Lee was quite heavy, he was eleven-eight and I was eleven-three.
First round I just kept showing him my jab. He was covering up a lot so all I could do was hit him with the jab. Eventually he come forward a bit so I’d hit him with my jab. He was eating my Jab all the time. There wasn’t much I could do he just wasn’t throwing, so I kept jabbing.
That’s all he did was cover up and sometimes used his jab. He’s quite strong but he didn’t want to give me any openings or make a fight of it.
I was in great shape and was ready for any opportunities. He should have opened up and come to fight. I came to fight but he didn’t want to know, he just covered up and stayed out of trouble.
At the end of the six rounds I won, I still won. I feel good, that’s six in a row. Yeah and now my next fight will be for the Southern Area title.
I have such great fans, they were standing shouting ‘Eagle, Eagle, Eagle’ throughout. I was disappointed for them that he didn’t want to make a fight of it. They still kept chanting though.
I have such great fans and can’t thank them enough for the great support. Thanks, you guys are the best fans in the world.”
It is expected that an announcement will be made soon on the date and opponent for Erick ‘The Eagle’ Ochieng’s challenge for the Southern Area Light Middleweight title - Watch this space.

Mitchell Balker Looks for Next UK Fight
By Rio
London - Monday, 24th January 2010
Dutch Cruiser Mitchell Balker Beats Nick Okoth In London, Looks For Next UK Fight.
On Saturday night London based Dutch Cruiserweight prospect Mitchell Balker got the first UK win under his belt, after beating Battersea’s fighting fireman Nick ‘The Ox’ Okoth, at the Graham Earl promoted ‘Capital
Punishment’ event at York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Balker, who relocated to London in September last year to train with Johnny Eames at his Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, put the disappointment of losing his unbeaten record, when he faced #8 ranked Matty Askin on his British debut back in November last year, behind him and put on a dominating performance against the very tough Okoth.
Right from the opening bell Balker controlled the fight utilising crisp solid jabs to keep Okoth on the defensive, before swiftly moving in to land solid jabs and big right hands.
Round two see Okoth charge from his corner to take the fight to the Dutchman. Balker kept calm and stayed out of trouble by moving out of
range and occasionally letting rip with accurate lefts and rights, to both head and body, that slowed the advancing Okoth considerably.
Round three see Balker shift up a gear and just plain out box Okoth by utilising crisp jabs and powerful combinations. Okoth pressured Balker onto the ropes, but the savvy Dutchman would just step around Okoth and launch controlled attacks of his own. Often just jabbing to the head but occasionally with a venomous three punch combination that ended with a solid left to the body.
Round four was more of the same and it was no surprise that come the final bell the referee declared Balker the winner by a clear 40-36 points margin.
Following the fight Balker said, “I got my win, my first in UK. I feel really good, my performance was good, I just got in the ring and did my thing. It’s good to win all four rounds. I felt strong and was totally in control and I pushed him. It went OK.
The body shots we worked on in the gym worked good. I went to Nick Okoth in the changing rooms after the fight and he told me like ‘if you had hit me two, three more times there I would go down, if you hit me more with the body shots I would go down’.
It was good performance but I could do more. I felt little bit slow but it was still good.
I want another fight soon, build on the win and show what I can do.”
Balker’s manager/co-trainer Johnny Eames added, “I thought that Mitchell performed really well. It’s his first outing since Matty Askin, and he was fighting Nick Okoth, who really is a very, very brave man and gave a very good performance.
Mitchell boxed extremely well, boxed to orders and did what he was asked to do. It’s a shame he had a little bit of a cold, otherwise he may have had a stoppage, mind you I wouldn’t wish that on anyone really, especially Nick as he’s a lovely kid. But I think Mitchell would have definitely got the stoppage win.
Mitchell is a work in progress and we’re looking to get him out again soon, he’ll be available here for any fights against anyone outside the top ten.”

UK Boxing - Ali Adams KO’s Nick Okoth
By Rio
London - Wednesday, 1st December 2010
Ali Adams Returns To KO Nick Okoth.
.
The World’s only Arab Heavyweight Ali Adams made a spectacular return to the ring, following his points defeat by Matt Skelton at the Matchroom Sports Prizefighter - Heavyweights 4 back in October, by knocking out Battersea’s fighting fireman Nick Okoth.
.
On Monday evening the Heavyweight bout featuring Ali Adams and Nick
Okoth headlined a four fight Dinner Show, held in a magnificent marquee
set up in Coram’s Field in Bloomsbury.
The first round mainly consisted of the former gym mates more or less
doing a hard sparring display rather than an out and out fight. Round two
though was a totally different fight as Okoth stepped things up and went
hard on the offensive. Adams responded with some good stiff jabs to keep
the ever advancing Okoth at bay. About thirty seconds or so in to the
round Okoth tried to rough up Adams and in doing so left himself open for
the big Kensington based Iraqi to throw a big left hook over the top to
send Okoth crashing to the deck.
Following his return to the Ultrachem TKO gym today Adams spoke of the
win. “It was a good experience and I’m happy to get the win. It was a real
good punch. I’m happy Nick is OK because he is a good friend of mine.
People now see I’m more and more aggressive. I will go and destroy anybody
in the ring. I’ve got to go and do the business. Boxing is a fighting game
you know.“
TKO supremo Johnny Eames, who trains Adams, then gave his view of the
superb win. “It was a really good performance by Ali Adams on Monday
night. Just the performance he needed after his disappointment at
Prizefighter. It showed what we all suspected he had , he’s got punching
power. He’s lacked a little bit of self belief. Hopefully we’re getting
him there with it now.
Who knows with Heavyweights there always just one punch away from winning
or losing. Maybe this is the return for Ali winning. Let’s hope so.”

Balker Ready To Bounce Back
By Rio
London - Wednesday, 1st December 2010
Balker Ready To Bounce Back After Controversial Stoppage.
Exciting Dutch Cruiserweight Mitchell Balker’s first UK fight proved to be a baptism of fire, in more ways than one. Mitchell, who recently relocated to London to be managed and co-trained by Johnny Eames at his Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, faced highly rated Matty Askin on the undercard of Matthew Hatton’s European title defense in Bolton last Friday.
Taking on Great Britain’s unbeaten number eight ranked Cruiser on his first UK outing, in doing so risking his own hard earned ‘O’, shows the size of Mitchell’s cojones and more so the faith Johnny Eames has in his hard punching charge.
It was never going to be an easy fight and sure enough Mitchell did lose his precious ‘O’, but in highly controversial fashion, following a rather strange decision by the referee, to step in and stop the fight whilst Mitchell and Matty Askin were busy exchanging punches.
Following a training session, with co-trainer Derek Grainger, an anything but down hearted Mitchell spoke briefly on the fight, “I have to watch the tape to be sure. What Johnny (Eames) says is that I lost the first round, so the second round I came back.
Third round I started hurting the guy, but I have to see the tape back, because I got a eight seconds (count), I stood up, fought back. The guy jumped on me, I fought back and the ref stopped the fight though.
I couldn’t believe what happened so I was asking why he stopped the fight. But that’s what it is, it is though. That’s what happened so I just want to see the tape.
I’m back in the gym and work hard for the January fight.”
Whilst Mitchell is unclear on what had gone on, being rather busy at the time battling with a very good opponent, his manager and co-trainer, Johnny Eames, had a much clearer view of the proceedings. “First round Mitchell came out and was walking Askin down” said Johnny, “but he wasn’t throwing the punches, so he was walking on to the jab quite often, although it wasn’t a stiff jab, it wasn’t stopping Mitchell in his tracks and anything Askin was throwing missed as Mitchell was either blocking or slipping, but he just wasn’t getting his own punches off.
I think that was probably because it was his first time with us and him trying too hard more than anything else.
He had done a little better in the second round and had a little bit more success. But I still gave that round to Askin because his constant jab, which again was blocked most of the time but was finding the target occasionally and Mitchell again was closing his own work down although not as much as the first round.
The third round Mitchell finally got to do more that I asked him to do. I told him he had to throw punches when walking him back. We changed our tactics a bit, usually I would say if the first punch don’t land, don’t throw the second but we said if the first punch don’t land make sure you throw the second and third but moving your feet in.
He was having loads of success and actually hurt Askin a few times. I believe Askin has said as much himself in recent interviews when he said that Mitchell is the hardest puncher that he’s fought. That was shown by the fact of how often Mitchell was hitting him and a couple of times it rocked him.
Mitchell was well winning the third round up until the point of getting clipped by a short right hook over the top of his left lead, which made him touch down momentarily. He jumped up, too soon really, whether it hurt or not I still think you should still take the eight count, you should take it on one knee rather than standing up. But Mitchell through inexperience, being the first time he’s been down, jumped up too soon. The referee’s finished the eight count and said carry on.
Askin then came onto the attack and they both ended up on the ropes in Mitchell’s own corner. They were both trading, no one was throwing more punches than the other. They were both equally throwing the same sort of punches and then quite unexpectedly the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Mitchell was clearly unhurt and protesting that the fight shouldn’t have been stopped and I had words with the referee.
Afterwards when talking with Richard Poxon, Ricky Hatton and numerous of Hatton’s people everybody agreed that the fight shouldn’t have been stopped but they’re glad it was because it looked like Mitchell was getting on top.
For me it’s a fight we’ll always want a rematch with. Not necessarily right away, give Mitchell a couple of fights and if they’re willing to have a rematch we’ll have one.”
Now that’s a mouth watering prospect, and a chance for Mitchell to right the wrong done to him, but as Johnny said that is something for the future. Right now, Mitchell has already put the Askin fight well behind him and is back in the gym focusing on his next outing, which will be on the Graham Earl Promotions 22nd January 20111 show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.
Tickets for The Graham Earl Promotions event at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 22nd January 2011 will be available shortly.
