- Amir Khan conference — At yesterday’s (5th October) press conference, WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) explained what he’s going to do in his next fight against WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in their December 11th clash in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the press conference Khan seemed to be saying that he’s going to go out and try and slug with Maidana.Khan said “When people say I have a weak chin, I respond by saying that Pacquiao gave me his best shot and couldn’t wobble me. I’m going do something different in this fight, something nobody’s ever seen me do. I’m changing my style. I’m going to come in and be the big puncher. This fight, is going to be explosive.”
.
- Lucian Bute news — According to the latest boxing news gossip, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (26-0, 21 KO’s) will be moving up to the light heavyweight division soon to campaign in that division instead of the super middleweight division. What this means is that Bute won’t be facing the winner of the Super Six tournament. Apparently, the tournament is taking too long to complete. Bute would like to fight WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, and that’s a fight that will likely be taking place in late 2011.
.
- Daniel Ammann vs Oscar Siale — Australian cruiserweight champion Daniel Ammann (19-4-1, 4 KOs) will clash with Oscar Siale (12-6, 4 KOs) of New Zealand over ten rounds at the Newcastle Basketball Stadium in New South Wales, Australia on Friday (8th October). Ammann is coming off a ten round points decision loss to former world rated heavyweight Shane Cameron in 2010 and lost in two rounds to world rated Alexander Alexeev in Germany in 2009. Sial was featured in one of the best Australian fights for 2010 when he dropped a close twelve round points decision to Dominic Vea in a nationally Foxtel televised Commonwealth cruiserweight title bout.
.
- Antonio Tarver Vs Nagy Aguilera — Former undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion Antonio Tarver and heavyweight Nagy Aguilera participated in a national media conference call to discuss their upcoming heavyweight bout on Friday, Oct. 15, at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla., on ShoBox: The New Generation, live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast). Tarver, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion and the first man to knock out future Hall of Famer Roy Jones, Jr., will be fighting for the first time as a heavyweight after a hugely successful campaign at 175 pounds. Tarver, of Tampa, Fla., took more than a year off from fighting after his last bout in 2009 and has been serving as an expert commentator for SHOWTIME.
.
- WBC Turnabout — In a complete turnabout the World Boxing Council (WBC) have announced that Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) and Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) will be fighting for the vacant WBC super middleweight title on November 27th instead of Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) and Andre Ward (22-0, 13 KO’s). This will not be pleasing to boxing fans as the talent and the credibility of the Super Six lies in Dirrell Vs Ward fight. Dan Rafael of ESPN, broke this news, saying “Yet another reason the WBC is disgusting: 1st it says Ward-Dirrell is for vacant 168, Froch-Abe 4 #1. Now, suddenly, Froch-Abe for vacant.” This is so bad. How can you have Froch, who already lost the WBC title to Mikkel Kessler in his last fight in April, being given another immediate shot at the WBC title?
.
- JESSE MAGDALENO — World amateur sensation JESSE MAGDALENO signed a long-term exclusive promotional contract with Top Rank today. Magdaleno, who campaigned at 119 pounds through most of his career, leaves the amateur ranks with a 120-16 record and six major national titles, including the National Golden Gloves and the U.S. Nationals.

- Former heavyweight contender “Baby” Joe Mesi has been appointed as a deputy commissioner with the New York State Athletic Commission by Chairperson Melvina Lathan. Mesi will be assigned to work in upstate New York overseeing the commission’s rules and regulations, physicals and payments to boxers. “I am honored to be appointed to a great commission, this will keep me close to the boxing game that I love so much,” said Mesi. He feels his biggest contribution in the unpaid position is to make sure the young fighters are treated right and paid accordingly. Mesi has had some well documented problems with the NYSAC in the past but that is all behind him now and he looks to help the Commission in any way he can. “I have had issues with the NYSAC and it is ironic I am a part of it now,” explained Joe. “I see great things with Melvina at the helm and look forward to seeing the sport continue to grow in the State (source fightnews).

One day my Commonwealth gold will be next to his Olympic silver medal.”Their proud dad said: “If Haroon gets a gold medal, it will mean the world to us. We have hundreds of medals and trophies at home in England, Haroon’s as well as Amir’s.“A gold from Haroon to go with Amir’s Olympic silver, that would be beautiful. Unfortunately it is not with England – he is boxing for Pakistan. Why is that? You will have to ask the ABA. - “It is politics. Obviously they didn’t rate Haroon.”

In an article at the Orange County Register, Arum says “If he [Chavez Jr.] wins this fight, I’m going to put him in against Miguel Cotto. Cotto is a terrific fighter and he won’t be intimidated by Chavez’s name. Is Julio ready for a challenge like that? I don’t know. I think Freddie [Roach] thinks there’s a lot of potential there, and the last fight [Chavez's 12 round decision win over fringe middleweight contender John Duddy] was definitely a big step.”
.
- Saul Alvarez Vs Lovemore Ndou — Unbeaten welterweight/light-middleweight sensation Saul Alvarez of Mexico will take another step up in class in his next fight, when he will meet the experienced Lovemore Ndou on December 4th in Mexico. Nov. 27 Doubleheader from U.S. and Europe
The Group Stage 3 matchups in the Super Six World Boxing Classic, the unprecedented boxing tournament from SHOWTIME Sports® featuring the world’s best super middleweights, have been rescheduled for November 27, it was announced today by Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager for sports programming on the network.
The matchup between breakout American stars and friends, Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, will headline the SHOWTIME® telecast on Saturday, Nov. 27, live at 9p.m. ET/PT. Ward vs. Dirrell, one of the most talked about matchups of the year, will be contested for Ward’s WBA championship and the newly vacated WBC belt, adding yet another dramatic layer to an already captivating fight.
Ward has already locked up his Semifinal berth, but will be protecting his title and undefeated professional record. Dirrell, conversely, needs a win to guarantee his place in the Semis. Dirrell conceivably could get in with two points but he would need help from fellow tournament competitors.
On the same night, Saturday, Nov. 27 from Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, Arthur Abraham will meet former WBC titlist Carl Froch for their pivotal Group Stage 3 fight. Promoters Kalle Sauerland and Mick Hennessy are working with the Hartwell Arena to finalize details for the event. This bout, matching arguably the two toughest and most aggressive punchers in the Super Six, has been rescheduled from Oct. 2 due to a back injury to Froch.
Allan Green, whose Group Stage 3 bout with Mikkel Kessler was waylaid when Kessler withdrew from competition with an eye injury, has left the perennial contender without an opponent. A decision on Green’s Group Stage 3 bout is expected in the coming days.
The third and final Group Stage will complete the round-robin portion of the tournament and determine the four fighters who will advance to the single-elimination Semifinals. Through the first two Stages, the WBA world champion Ward is the only fighter to have secured a berth in the Semis. No fighter has been eliminated from contention creating a virtual win-or-go-home scenario for each of the men.
Hershman said, “We have asked these fighters to challenge themselves against the best fighters in the world; not in one mega-fight, but in a consecutive series of career defining fights. Injuries and delays are inevitable. However, each one of them has accepted the challenge and brought a level of intensity to the ring that, in my estimation, is unmatched in all of sports.
“We are still on pace to complete the tournament in 2011, at which time we will have delivered to boxing fans around the world a number of the most compelling and meaningful matches in the sport.
“So, the drama continues with all the fighters still alive heading to Group Stage 3. I couldn’t have scripted this any better.”
SUPER SIX WORLD BOXING CLASSIC SCOREBOARD (Through Group Stage 2)
Record Fighter Points
2-0 Andre Ward 4
1-1 Arthur Abraham 3

“We were informed [Monday] morning of a back injury that prohibits him to fight on Oct. 2, but that would allow him a fight about seven or eight weeks later,” Chris Meyer of Sauerland Event, Abraham’s promoter, told ESPN.com.
There is no new date set for the fight, however. Sauerland Event and Froch promoter Mick Hennessy need to huddle with Showtime as well as with their European broadcast partners to figure out a new date.

There have been rumors’ going round the sport for ages and from what we’ve seen this weekend it appears that they were true. If you watch the video of him snorting the drugs, it doesn’t exactly look as though he is doing it for the first time. Ricky clearly has problems. Froch’s Might Still Get Back His Former WBC Title Against Abraham On October 2nd
Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) could get a chance to win back his old World Boxing Council super middleweight title against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 Ko’s) in their stage 3 Super Six tournament fight on October 2nd, in Monaco. Mikkel Kessler, who beat Froch to take his WBC title last April, has now pulled out of the Super Six tournament because of a bad eye injury. Kessler won’t be able to fight again for another nine months so that his ailing eye can heal. This in turn will leave his WBC title available possibly for Froch to fight for it against Abraham. Naturally, it’s probably not how Froch would like to have won it back but I’m pretty sure he’ll take it if he beats Abraham.
Froch Would Like Rematch Against Kessler
Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) still would like to fight a rematch with WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KO’s) in the future once Kessler’s eye injury heals – if it ever does. In an interview atLivefight.com, Froch says “I was hoping to have gotten a rematch with Kessler through the format of the Super Six. But health must come first and having eye problems in the past, I can only sympathize with Kessler’s current situation and wish him well.” Kessler suffered a bad eye injury in his fight against American Andre Ward last year in his first fight in the Super Six tournament. Kessler fought with the injury against Froch, but was still able to beat him without showing any signs of having problems.
