Latest Boxing News, Tuesday 16th November for: Danny Green, BJ Flores, Bob Mirovic, Bob Gasio, David Haye, Vitali Klitschko, Dereck Chisora, Pacquiao, Margarito, Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton, Wale Omotoso, Juan Albert Godoy, Miguel “Mikey” Garcia, Holyfield, Williams,Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham, Tomasz Adamek, Roy Jones Jr.

.

  • Danny Green Vs BJ Flores — IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green is ready to retain the championship on Wednesday when he will punch it out with the bigger American BJ Flores over twelve rounds at the Challenge stadium in Perth, Western Australia. Green said he is not worried by the weight difference and also challenges Flores’ statements that he is confident of defeating Green and taking the title back to the USA. “He is not short of words,” Green said. ”I think BJ is just trying to pump up his own chances and inflate his own confidence. I don’t take too much interest in what he says. I’ve won three world titles and I’ve been competing for world titles for seven years. Roy Jones: I’ve taken him out in one round. I’m a veteran of the sport, and I’ll know what I’m doing on Wednesday night.”

.

  • Bob Mirovic Vs Bob Gasio — Former Australian heavyweight champion Bob Mirovic (29-22-2, 20 KOs) will return to ring action on Friday when he will clash with New Zealand heavyweight Bob Gasio (11-15-3, 3 KOs) at the Revesby Workers club in Revesby, NSW, Australia. Mirovic has boxed several world class heavyweights all over the world including former world heavyweight champion Frans Botha who he dropped a twelve round decision to in 2007 in South Africa and was unlucky to lose in Gemany to Timo Hoffman over ten in a disputed points loss.

.

  • David Haye wants to fight in England — WBA heavyweight champion David Haye has sent a message to both Klitschko brothers that he is refusing to fight them in Germany. If a unification fight were to happen, Haye wants it to happen in London. The South London Press reports that Wembley or the Greenwich’s O2 Arena would be the most likely venues. Haye’s demand should not be a problem as both Klitschko brothers have expressed their willingness to fight him in London with a 50-50 deal across the board.

.

  • Vitali Klitschko — World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KO’s) is ready to fight WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) in early 2011 if Haye will agree to a 50-50 deal for the fight. Vitali, the older brother of IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, said in an interview at the BBC Radio Five Live program, “I’m ready any minute to sign a 50-50 contract. We are both world champions, so let’s fight. Let’s make the fight in the spring time. I’m ready;

.

  • Chisora says he’s going to ruin Haye’s plans of fighting the Klitschkos by beating them first — Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) was totally disgusted in watching last Saturday’s title fight between WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and challenger Audley Harrison. - Chisora will be facing Wladimir Klitschko on December 11th at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Chisora says “The sport we’re in is a gladiator sport. You don’t have to wait for the later rounds or the first round, I’m just gonna go for it from round one to round 12. I’m going into the Klitschko fight a big underdog, but I promise you now that I’ll throw more than one punch and put up more of a fight than he [speaking about Harrison] did. I’ve got a big challenge ahead of me by going out to Germany, but I’m going out there to give it my best shot because winning the title means more to me than the money. I’m confident that I can pull off a massive shock and bring the title back to Britain, and I’m ruining Haye’s dreams of beating the Klitschkos because I’m going to do it first.”

.

  • Pacquiao vs. Margarito PPV projections — According to the Dallas Morning News, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is projecting that the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito bout from last Saturday night will bring in 1.4 million pay-per-view buys, Arum says the Pacquiao-Margarito bout will end up with twice the numbers of the Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight produced last March. That fight ended up with 700,000 PPV buys, which was a drop off of from the Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto bout, which drew 1.2 million buys.

.

  • Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton has been offered a comeback fight against ‘The Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya — The offer was made to the mancunian during Haye v Harrison fight week in Manchester by an executive of Golden Boy promotions. The fight would not be for any title, but simply two popular ex-champions making a comeback to the ring. — Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) says he’s lost two stone [28 pounds] and he’s missing boxing after being out of the sport since losing to Manny Pacquiao by a 2nd round TKO last year in May. Hatton recently got out of drug rehab after a cocaine scandal that was caught on a hidden camera. Hatton had gained a tremendous amount of weight since losing to Pacquiao last year, but he’s now lost much of it.

.

  • Wale Omotoso Vs Juan Albert Godoy — Australian based Nigerian born world rated welterweight Wale Omotoso (17-0, 15 KOs) will return to the ring on November 26 when he will clash with Juan Albert Godoy ( 25-12-1, 10 KOs) over twelve rounds with the IBF Pan Pacific title up for grabs at the Knox Netball Center in Ferntree Gully, Victoria, Australia. .

Garcia vs. Leal will open up the pay-per-view telecast, replacing undefeated lightweight contender ‘Bam Bam’ Brandon Rios who was moved to the Pacquiao vs. Margarito undercard this past weekend.

.

  • Holyfield-Williams off again — For the third time the proposed bout between former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) and Sherman “Tank” Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs) has again been postponed. The bout had been previously scheduled for November 5th, November 12, and December 9th.

.

  • Carl Froch Vs Arthur Abraham — NEW YORK (Nov. 15, 2010) – Bitter rivals and European superstars Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham continued to throw verbal jabs at one another on Monday during an international media conference call less than two weeks before their Super Six World Boxing Classic clash for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight title on Saturday, Nov. 27, on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT) on same-day-delay from Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland.

.

  • Tomasz Adamek Vs Roy Jones Jr. — According to Polish journalist Janusz Pindera, heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO), and former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. (54-7, 40 KO) are very close to reaching an agreement for a March fight. — “The conctract with Jones will be signed this week. • Alejandro Lakatos vows to expose Cleverly — Former world title challenger Alejandro Lakatos has vowed to expose unbeaten Nathan Cleverly on December 11 at the Echo Arena where the Interim WBO World light-heavyweight title will be at stake. “He’s an overhyped jumped-up kid who will be exposed for what he is on December 11, and I’ll give him a one, two that will knock him out. I’ve seen Cleverly’s fight against Karo Murat, and if he stands in front of me like that he’ll be in big trouble. I’ll punish him.” Born in Romania but now fighting out of Madrid, Lakatos has 31 and has twice fought for the WBO world light-heavyweight title. “It will definitely be a case of third time lucky against Cleverly,” said Lakatos. “I’ve been close to glory before, but this time my dream of winning a world title is about to come true. The fight is, ironically, the first all-British world heavyweight title fight since Lewis stopped Bruno 17 years ago. — Haye said of the comments of the two British ring legends: “I am actually pleased people are siding with Audley. — “After all, when this fight was announced everybody said it was a joke fight. They are not saying that now. (Source: Daily Star).

  • DAVID Haye Speaking the Dailymail.co.uk, — Haye said “All you have to do is imagine what a right mug I would look if I lost. Getting beat by Audley would be more than an embarrassment. I would be beyond humiliation. it would be a catastrophe for me, my career and for everything I stand for.”

If I got to fight Valuev in Quebec, Canada on the 18th, I’d take the fight no problem…He’s [Haye] been avoiding the Klitschkos and he won’t fight them. “[Kirkland] was at the gym and ran down to get a custom mouthpiece from a dentist in town when the probation officer came by and he wasn’t there,” Dunkin said. “I guess that’s a violation and the probation officer said they were going to have a hearing on this because you’re not allowed to leave the gym at all when you’re in training. You’re supposed to be where you’re supposed to be. He was gone for an hour or something, not a big deal, but he got punished.” — Dunkin said the incident happened late last week and he was informed of it by co-manager Michael Miller. — “He’s got to do a week at the county jail, so he should be out in a couple of days,” Dunkin said. “He didn’t lose his bed or his spot at the halfway house.”

Margarito’s ‘All or Nothing’ Sponsorship Deal

“Signal Hill, CA - Affliction, the LA-based clothing company already a mainstay for the most elite athletes, heaviest bands, A-listers and the fashion conscious, has inked an ‘all or nothing’ sponsorship deal with super welterweight boxer Antonio ‘The Tijuana Tornado’ Margarito for his upcoming fight against Manny Pacquiao taking place in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, November 13.

“Although Affliction and Margarito have had a long-standing association, the back and forth negotiations between the two parties took an interesting twist last week. In the midst of their discussions Margarito made a bold suggestion-an all or nothing sponsorship deal based on the outcome of the fight. His proposition was simple. Should he win the bout against the Champion Manny Pacquiao, he would go home with a decent chunk of change from the clothing company. However, should the pugilist lose in what is surely the biggest fight of his career, he will forfeit his sponsorship fee all together.

Some may think Margarito is mad for taking a gamble in what will be the toughest bout of his career against Pacquiao, who many consider the reigning pound-for-pound king of boxing. But Margarito has vowed to win the fight and even knock Pacquiao out, and his proposal to Affliction shows just how much faith he has in himself and his abilities to do so.

“‘I have full confidence that I am going to beat Manny Pacquiao and this deal I have made with Affliction reinforces that confidence,’ said Margarito, a three-time world champion who has been sponsored by Affliction for his past three fights.

Margarito Funds Olympic Boxers Dream

Antonio Margarito steps in to make a dream come true for four young Olympic boxing hopefuls.

Photo Credit Manuel Herrera (Team Garcia)

Selling tamales, tortillas and bracelets to raise funds to send four local boxers to the 2010 National PAL Boxing Championships in San Antonio, Texas proved impossible for the families of the young Olympic hopefuls when their hard work produced less than $300. That is until Antonio Margarito came into the picture. When Margarito heard of the family’s misfortune he immediately offered to pay for round trip airfare and room accommodations for the fighters. When asked why he did it Margarito stated, “I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to have a dream crushed because you have no money.”

So on Tuesday Antonio presented a check to the fighters at his training camp at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Oxnard, Ca. Obviously overjoyed and with one less thing to worry about, the fighters can now focus on their dream of representing the USA at the 2012 Olympics held in London.

Margarito is in intense preparation for his world super welterweight championship battle with Manny Pacquiao, scheduled for November 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
