Frank Warren’s - Monarch of the Glen
.
By Richard Maynard
Hot Scottish prospect John Thain is vowing to become another champion off the Celtic production line. - The former top amateur has had just two professional fights (he has won them both) but has already impressed his promoter Frank Warren.
He features again on December 4 at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, as part of the undercard to Ricky Burns’ WBO World Super-Featherweight title defence against Andreas Evensen, live on Sky Sports 1HD - And the Edinburgh ace has vowed to continue Scotland’s recent resurgence.
After Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur lost their world titles, Ricky Burns has led the charge by capturing the WBO crown. But with Arthur not done yet, and Paul Appleby chasing glory at the highest level as well, Scottish boxing is on a high again.
“It’s a good time to be boxing in Scotland, that’s for sure,” said Thain.
“It’s been a wee while since we’ve had big arena shows at the Brahead.
“But Ricky has put us back on the map, and it is fantastic that we’re back fighting in front of crowds of five or six thousand.
“I grew up watching the likes of Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur making waves, and to be part of a similar scene is a dream come true.”
Thain, 23, last boxed in September, beating Paddy Pollock over four at the Braehead Arena. - “It’s just a question of getting some rounds under my belt as a pro at the moment,” he said. - “Hopefully in 18 months time I can start challenging for titles.”
Promoter Frank Warren added: “Boxing is doing well all over the country, but I’m particularly pleased that we’ve got so many talented guys coming through in Scotland.
“There is a great affection for the sport in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and with the likes of Ricky Burns, Paul Appleby, John ,Alex Arthur, and young Michael Roberts, there is so much potential for big cards next year.”

Andreas Evensen: fighting Ricky Burns will be easy
.
Frank Warren TV
Andreas Evensen insists fighting Ricky Burns will be easy - compared to growing up in Colombia.
The South American challenges Burns for the WBO super-featherweight title on December 4 in Glasgow.
And he claims it will be no problem after spending his early years dodging gun fire in Colombia.
“Colombia was a tough place to live,” he told the Scottish Daily Record.
“It was hard in the ring but 10 times tougher when I stepped outside of it.
“I remember having to run for cover when bullets started flying between the drug gangs.
“Burns will have never seen anything like that.
“In Colombia you have to go through gangs shooting at each other just to get into the gym. Then you have to get home.
“So I learned to box the hard way and this is my chance to make a name for myself by winning the world title.”
“Ricky did what he had to do against Roman Martinez, keeping him busy by throwing punches all the time.
“People raved about how well Burns boxed but I don’t think he is all that special. I’m ready to step up and won’t allow Burns to dictate.”

Ricky Burns
Ricky Burns — It looks like World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (29-2, 7 KO’s) won’t be able to count on fighting the struggling lightweight Alex Arthur (28-3, 20 KO’s) in his 1st title defense of his WBO belt, because Arthur is saying that he can’t go down to the super featherweight division to make the fight. It’s too bad, because Arthur had lost two out of his last four fights and would have likely been an easy fight for Burns.
