The Auditorio del Estado is the expected venue. Mexicali is located on the Mexico/USA border 165 miles east of San Diego.


  • IBF lightweight champion Miguel ‘Titere’ Vazquez (27-3, 12 KOs) of Mexico, under the guidance of long time trainer Javier Capetillo at the Azteca Boxing Club, will step back into the ring and defend his title this Saturday, March 12th against unbeaten and mandatory challenger Lenny Zappavigna (25-0, 17 KOs) of Australia at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada which is being headlined by WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) against two-division world champion Ricardo ‘El Matador’ Mayorga

Alvarez will stage his next fight in Mexico against a ranked opponent in the top five. He wants to make his first defense in early June; “I can assure you that my first title defense will be in Guadalajara, however, we don't know yet who it's going to be, but most likely it's going to be someone ranked in the top five by the WBC” Alvarez said. “This is the first step of many great things, and hopefully the defense will take place in the first week of June in Guadalajara, and it will be a dream for me.
