  • The 24th WBO Annual Convention, to be held in Puerto Rico in 2011, is scheduled from October 24th to 29th it was announced today by WBO President, Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel. The traditional WBO Convention, started in 1988, will take place on that date, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel located in Isla Verde, Carolina. 2010 WBO Convention was held at the Hotel Caribe in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. This year, PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) headed by brothers Ivan and Peter Rivera will present a world title show during the convention. As always, the presence of some of the WBO champions, former champions, other boxers, famous trainers, managers, promoters, officials, and other political, social and cultural personalities will be on hand.

  • Marco “Captain” Huck will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against Ran Nakash on April 2. After Giacobbe Fragomeni pulled out due to a cut injury from sparring, Huck (31-1, 23 KOs) will now make his sixth defense against the unbeaten challenger from Israel (25-0, 18 KOs). “I don’t care about the late change,” Huck said. “It will not exactly be a walk in the park, but as the world champion, I will find a way to deal with it. I will be prepared for Nakash and I will defeat him just like I defeat anybody who wants to take the belt away from me.”

  • Kirkland to fight 35-year-old Ishida - Unbeaten junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (27-0, 24 KO’s) will be taking a measured step up in class on April 9th when he faces 35-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (22-6-1, 7 KO’s) in an 8-round bout on the undercard of Erik Morales – Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito - The rematch between Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) and Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) will reportedly be taking place on July 16th at a still to be determined venue. The date is still tentative and hasn’t been conclusively confirmed yet, but this is when the two fighters will likely be fighting unless one of them is injured while training. Margarito, 33, has been beaten in two out of his last three fights and Cotto, the holder of the WBA junior middleweight title after beating Yuri Foreman in 2010, was stopped by Manny Pacquiao in 2009.

  • Jorge “Coloradito” Solis is a world champion in his own right, but on Saturday night he will not only be a challenger but also the underdog to undefeated Cuban sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa who will put up his WBA and IBF featherweight world championship against the tough Mexican in the main event of “Featherweight Fury” to take place at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and to be televised by HBO on “Boxing After Dark.” - “I am not selling myself short. I took this fight because I truly believe I can win it and that’s what I am here to do: win it,” said Solis, today in Atlantic City. Solis is the WBA Interim Super Featherweight champion and has lost only twice in his professional career, one to Manny Pacquiao and another one to former IBF Featherweight champion Cristobal Cruz.

  • Rhodes official challenger for Alvarez - By James Slater: WBC boss Jose Sulaiman recently named Britain’s Ryan Rhodes as the official challenger of his organisation’s new 154-pound champion, Saul Alvarez, and the fight is close to being signed for Mexico on June 18th. An interesting fight on paper: will “Canelo” be able to make a successful first defence of the belt he won by beating another Brit in Matthew Hatton, or will the tricky southpaw skills of veteran Rhodes see to it that the Sheffield man finally gets his hands on a world title?

  • HamiltonEyes Early British Title Shot - Just one week ago Darren Hamilton was a virtually unknown fighter. However since his total dominating performance over Peter McDonagh, to lift the BBBofC Southern Area Light Welterweight title at Spencer Fearon’s Hard Knocks Boxing Promotions excellent ‘Shamrock Showdown’ event, Hamilton has been receiving glowing plaudits from the media and boxing circles, with many comparing him favourably with Frankie Gavin. The sensational eighth round stoppage win over McDonagh has rocketed Hamilton up the rankings, from #37 to #15, and brought him to the attention of British Light Welter Champion Ashey ‘Treasure’ Theophane, who is said to be considering Hamilton as a voluntary defense opponent.

  • Gilberto “Baby” Keb Bass and Adrian “El Confesor” Hernandez - Mexican boxing promoter Salvador Briman is in negotiations for the WBC light flyweight championship between Gilberto “Baby” Keb Bass and Adrian “El Confesor” Hernandez, and soon he will disclose the date and place for the bout. Briman, representative of Adrian Hernandez, is a passionate promoter of boxing and said; “El Confesor” beat Keb Baas in the past and he should repeat it this time again. We are aware that the champion is motivated, has taken his second wind and he’s dangerous, but Adrian is working in the gym with great determination.”

  • Pongsaklek-Sosa voluntary defense - The World Boxing Council has granted world champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand, the authorization to make a voluntary defense having as a deadline May 30, the same liberty that was granted to Edgar Sosa, of Mexico, to make a voluntary defense of his WBC International title. Continental Federations ABCO and NABF have already been advised as well as the representatives to the aforementioned fighters.
