Champion Haye to hold bookazine signings in Manchester and Birmingham -- WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye will touch down in Manchester and Birmingham this Saturday (September 25) to further publicise volume one of his official Hayemaker bookazine. The boxer will be on hand in Selfridges in Manchester at mid-day (12 pm) and will then travel to Selfridges in Birmingham for a 5pm signing in the Midlands.
Shannon Briggs: David Haye Will Be My Next Victim! -- The latest from Golzka, heavyweight Shannon Briggs has sent a message to WBA champion David Haye of England. Briggs will challenge WBC champion Vitali Klitschko on October 16 in Germany. He took offense to a recent video that was created by the British fighter, where he ridiculed Briggs' medical condition. Briggs wants to make him pay for the insult.
"In his latest wacky video, Haye called me Shannon 'Give Me Cartridges For Asthma' Briggs. But this isn't only an insult to me, but to everyone in the world who is suffering from this disease. For this reason, he will be number two on my list of victims, after Vitali," Briggs said. "Once I deal with David Haye, the first heavyweight boxer with a heavyweight mouth, the next victim on the waiting list will be Wladimir [Klitschko]." (Ruslan Chikov - BoxingScene)
WBA’s “KO Drugs” -- The Heavyweight Factory`s Brad “The King” Solomon (14-0; 6 KO’s) and stablemate Timur Ibragimov (29-2-1; 16 KO’s) will set sail for Panama to be part of the WBA’s “KO Drugs” card, to take place on October 2nd at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City. Solomon is currently rated 12th worldwide by the WBA, and holds the WBA International welterweight belt. Ibragimov, rated 10th worldwide by the WBA, is the current NABA heavyweight champion.
Pacquiao - Margarito Undercard -- Rising Philadelphia welterweight (147 pounds) Mike Jones will face Mexican-born Jesus Soto Karass on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito, Doc Nowicki, told FanHouse on Wednesday. The card will take place on Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium.
Pacquiao - Margarito Undercard -- Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO’s) has yet another easy mark for his next fight on November 13th against former contestant from The Contender reality television series Bryan Vera (17-2, 11 KO’s). Pavlik will be facing the 28-year-old Vera on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito fight at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. – Pavlik has lost 2 out of his last four bouts.
“King” Miguel Cotto -- WBA junior middleweight (154 pounds) King Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico will forgo a December bout with either Puerto Rican-born former two-time titlist Kermit Cintron of Houston or unbeaten Armenian-born prospect Vanes Martirosyan of Glendale, Calif., instead opting for a ring return in early 2011.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr -- According to the latest boxing news, unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) is likely to be facing the 29-year-old welterweight Alfonso Gomez (22-4-2, 11 KO’s) on December 4th rather than the tough junior middleweight Pawel Wolak. In facing the smaller Gomez, Chavez will have an advantage in size and power that will help him. Chavez wouldn’t have nearly as much of an advantage against Wolak.
Wilberth “Hurricane” Uicab -- WBC President Jose Suliaman presents the WBC silver belt to new champion Wilberth “Hurricane” Uicab as promoter Pepe Gomez looks on. Uicab (28-5-1, 17 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Edren “The Sting” Dapudong to claim the belt last Friday night in Cancun.
RingSide Show: Ismail Syllakh -- NABF light heavyweight champion Ismail Syllakh (12-0, 11 KOs) will fight Daniel Sackey (13-1-1, 6 KOs) on October 7th at the Civic Center in Pensacola, Florida. Syllakh was the featured guest on the Internet-TV “RingSide Show” hosted by Fightnews.com writer Alexey “Oscar” Potapov and Vyacheslav Ponochovny, commentator for Ukrainian telechannel “Inter.” Syllakh spoke about life in the USA, working with legendary boxer Roy Jones and much more. Tyson Marquez returns Friday -- Flyweight contender Hernán “Tyson” Márquez (27-2, 21 KOs) and Valentín “Picoco” León (23-20-3, 17 KOs) faced of at a press conference Wednesday in advance of their showdown on Friday night at the Multi-use Center in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Marquez, who is coming off a 115lb world title loss against Nonito Donaire in July, is returning to flyweight. “My objective remains firm,” he stated, “I will be world champion no doubt, but first I have to defeat my opponent this Friday and so I will.” Leon, however, vowed he would hand Marquez a third straight defeat. “I know Tyson,” said Leon. “I’ve seen his fights and his weaknesses on TV Azteca. He’s a fighter with a punch, but I have mine and I know my style is ideal to defeat him and spoil their plans.”
In the co-feature, Joel “Dinamita” Juárez (23-9-1, 15 KOs) takes on Alberto “Bombardero” Salas (31-9-1, 18 KOs) in a welterweight contest.
Luis "El Artesano" Cruz and Roman "Rocky" Martinez -- If the fighters are willing to do it, there could be a very attractive battle between hard-hitting Puerto Rican super featherweights Luis "El Artesano" Cruz (16-0, 13KOs) and Roman "Rocky" Martinez (24-1, 15KOs). Carlos Gonzalez reports that Miguel Cotto Promotions and PR Best Boxing Promotions are discussing the possible fight for December 11 in Bayamon.
The fight has already been hit with an issue. Cruz tells Gonzalez that he doesn't feel ready for an opponent like Martinez and needs a few more fights. He would rather face Martinez in mid-2011 (Source: BoxingScene).
Marquez vs Katsidis -- Saturday, Nov. 27 Golden Boy Promotions celebrates Thanksgiving Day weekend with a 12-round championship battle between two of boxing's most exciting warriors -- Ring Magazine, World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Lightweight World Champion Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez and WBO Interim Lightweight World Champion Michael "The Great" Katsidis -- at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
IBF Middleweight Champion Sebastian Sylvester (33-3, 16 KOs) will return to the ring on October 30 when he defends his title against Mahir Oral (28-2, 11 KOs) in Rostock, Germany. It will be the Hurricane´s third defence after winning the belt in September 2009. “This will be a very interesting fight,” Team Sauerland General Manager Chris Meyer said at today´s press conference. “Mahir Oral did very well against Arthur Abraham when they met in June 2009. I am sure he will be highly motivated to take the title from Sebastian” said Meyer.
