Cuban-born, two-time former Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux will take on Jose Angel Beranza Espino on Saturday night in a Top Rank Promoted Fox Sports-televised eight-rounder in Tijuana, Mexico.
Rigondeaux a 29-year-old, southpaw and former seven-time national champion in his native country Cuba now lives in Los Angeles. Last February Rigondeaux took out his opponent Mexican Adolfo Landeros in just 28 seconds of round one.
Rigondeaux who defected from Cuba in February of 2009, leaving behind his wife Farah Colina , a 7 year old son and a 17 year old stepson, is considred to be one of the great boxers ever produced by Cuba. He captured Olympic Gold Medal at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, in the Bantamweight (54 kg) class. Rigondeaux is a seven-time (2000-06) Cuban national champion at bantamweight. He currently claims an amateur record of nearly 400 fights with twelve losses; with his most recent loss against Aghasi Mammadov in 2003.
Jose Angel Beranza Espino – has won 33 (KO 26) – 2 Draws and Lost 18. He held the WBC Continental Americas Super Flyweight Title (1999-2000) – he is currently the WBC Latino bantamweight champion.
