Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has announced he is set to relaunch his career at light-heavyweight. The 30-year-old from Swansea has lost three of his last six fights, including to Alexander Frenkel for the EBU title last time out.
Maccarinelli (32-5 25KOs) , lost his world title in two rounds to David Haye back in 2008.
"Although I have made a few mistakes in recent years, I still want to be a fighter," said Maccarinelli.
"We've had some really good Welsh fighters on the scene in the last couple of years but between
Joe's Calzaghe retirement and myself it has slowed down a little.
"But now there are these young guys coming through and I am coming back to fight in the light-heavyweight division because my desire is still strong."
Maccarinelli's decision to drop to light-heavyweight could now put his on a collision course with fellow Welshman Nathan Cleverly, who is set challenge for the WBO title. Enzo Calzaghe will come back and train the Welsh puncher.
