With the last Boxing event of the year in Puerto Rico, the fans were not disappointed as they enjoyed an early Christmas present with an exciting night of boxing in the mountains of Morovis, Puerto Rico.
In the main... event undefeated prospect Thomas Dulorme picked apart Ramon Sanchez. Dulorme controlled the action utilizing his jab and Sanchez refused to continue in the 2nd round after receiving multiple body shots. In the co-main event Marcos “El Tigre” Jimenez continued his winning ways by 1st round knockout of Ricardo Blackman. Jimenez had no problems in the short fight and dropped Blackman with a devastating body shot. Jimenez is looking forward to a possible title shot in the next year after having recently signed with Miguel Cotto’s promotional company. Former Olympian Carlos Valcarcel won by unanimous decision over a game Jorge Cordero. The two battled it out with Valcarcel landing the harder and cleaner shots. Cordero was saved by the final bell as he appeared out on his feet.
Making the most of their professional debuts were Miguel Marrero, Carlos Narvaez (both former members of the Puerto Rico national team), and George Maysonet (son of retired boxer Jorge Maysonet). Maysonet ended his bout in seconds after Samuel Hernandez could not survive his onslaught. Narvaez came out for a war with Cristian Perez, who was also making his debut. Narvaez won by KO in the 1st round. The hometown kid Marrero destroyed Victor Rodriguez in the 1st round with the 3rd knockdown of the round leaving Rodriguez motionless for several minutes. After being tended to by paramedics, Rodriguez was able to leave the ring on his own while Marrero was overcome with emotion, as he was congratulated by his adoring fans.
In an electrifying match, Emanuel “Bebo” Rivera won an all out slugfest, as he dropped Jose Guardiola once in the 1st round and 3 times in the 2nd. Guardiola exchanged heavy blows but “Bebo” was faster and delivered more crushing blows. In the near upset of the night, undefeated prospect Emanuel “Manny” Gonzalez won by unanimous decision over Pedro Salcedo. Coming in with a record of 3 wins and 4 losses and expected to be an easy fight for “Manny,” Salcedo left his heart in the ring. Heavy blows were exchanged by both with “Manny” being the aggressor throughout. In additional bouts Jose Valderrama destroyed Elvin Gonzalez by TKO in the 1st round and Alexis Padin won by TKO over Luis Ortiz in the 2nd round.
Those in attendance for this night of non-stop action were Promoter Gary Shaw, WBA Super Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto, former champion Carlos “El Indio” Quintana, NY State Featherweight Champ Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle, soon to be title contenders Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo and Cesar Seda, as well as several amateur prospects.
