Morocco Box Cup - In an exciting bout which had the spectators on the edge of their seat till the very last second, Malta's Haithem Lammouz lost with a 3 to 4 score against six times African Champion Mamadou C Keita of Kenya.
Haithem down 2 - 1 in the first round ahead in the second round 3 - 2 and the score did not move till the last minute of the last round with the boxers being perfectly matched and balanced when Laamouz committed an infringement and got a warning which reversed the score to 3 to 4 in favor of his opponent.
In a telephone interview with Coach Glen Saffer he said he was very satisfied with Haithem's performance and this has proved that he can handle himself in top competition however he stressed that if the positive results are to be maintained and major tournaments won then Haithem and all the other Maltese boys have to compete more often and on a regular bases.
Haithem won against his first opponent Ahmed Zohde of Jordan with a 2 - 0 score on the first day of competition thus becoming the first ever Maltese boxer to take a win in a major tournament.
Tomorrow will see in action Zak Farrugia in his first ever international tournament at this level against the Congo.
