AIBA President History

AIBA President Ching Kuo Wu was elected on the 6th of November 2006 during the AIBA Congress held in Santo Domingo with high hopes of reforming AIBA into a transparent, trustable and professionally operated governing body. From the onset of his Presidency Dr. Wu called for a complete reform and overhaul of the AIBA organization. In less than three years AIBA has not only modernized the sport of boxing but has made it sustainable through the introduction of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) a professional boxing league which allows  boxers to turn pro under the AIBA umbrella without losing their Olympic status.

The last three years has also seen new and innovative ideas being introduced such as the pre competition training camp in preparation of the Milan World Boxing Championships for small and emerging countries in the world of Olympic Boxing and the successful introduction of women's boxing in the Olympic Games for London 2012.

Since 2006 AIBA under President Wu has truly ushered in a new era of boxing and AIBA has become a respected and model organization where efficiency, honesty and equality are ever present.

Here are some of the main highlights from November 2006.

June 2007: The reform project, was fully endorsed by the AIBA Executive Committee at its two-day meeting at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, covering all areas of the sport of boxing with the ultimate aim to strengthen the sport within the Olympic movement and further develop it for the benefit of all of its participants.
