Katsuaki Susa - Japanese Hero

Asian Games gold medal contender 26-year-old Katsuaki Susa won at bantamweight in Astana after defeating four great names at the second Republic of Kazakhstan President's Cup from June 28 to July 2.

Susa was born in Tokyo on the September 13, 1984, where he lives and studied, and he has been boxing under Yoshiyuki Tsushima's tutelage for many years now. His first big success was the gold medal at the 2005 Japanese National Championships at bantamweight. Susa took his second Japanese National title in 2007 and he was also a gold medalist at the 2009 Japanese National Championships among the bantamweight class boxers in Chiba.

Irish Boxing News

Next year – 2011 the “Irish Amateur Boxing Association” will be celebrating the 100th year of it’s foundation.

Olympic Boxing - which is Irelands most successful Olympic sport with 12 medals at the games out of the 23 won by all Irish combined sports.

The IABA has announced that as part of its celebrations it will be issuing a calendar for 2011 featuring a photo of Irish Boxers for each month - medal winners - starting with John McNally, Silver in 1952, to Kenny Egan, Silver in 2008. (Profits from the sale of these Calendars will be used for the promotion of Amateur Boxing). Those interested in buying a copy of this calendar priced at 10 Euros each should contact the IABA http://www.iaba.ie
