Daniel “the Jet” Zarha showed for another time his talent in Kickboxing by winning a match in Marseille. This time he brought back the European Title Belt in Savate.

“The Jet” faced LoicBeccaria in a 7×2 match with Savate rules where athletes had to wear traditional footwear used to combat in this sport discipline. The match was for the European Title Belt of IFKB, which was previously held by. Beccaria, and who himself promised that it would remain in France.

Although Beccaria had the height advantage it did not help him with Zahra. In fact the Maltese athlete began attacking close to obstruct any French action. During the seven rounds Zahra economized his strength and continued until the end with the same rhythm. After each attack he began to change strategy to find different entries and take the points. It was in the fourth round that he took a decisive point with a spinning back fist to Beccaria’s head that sent him on the canvas. Zahra started to take the points with his leg techniques to the head and with jumping spinning kicks that is so known for.

Zahra has just come from a Kickboxing match in Portugal broadcasted live on Eurosport before the final match of the Boxing competition Biggers’ Better. That time he lost with a controversial decision that gave the victory to the Portuguese athlete, but Zarha never backed down. Indeed this victory showed his talent and great technique and keeps on going till the end, no matter who his opponent is.

Noel Azzopardi was the second Maltese athlete who took part in the competition and this was his first experience of a match abroad. In November he was one of the Maltese athletes who won his match against athletes from Northern Ireland. This time he competed with Fabien Toledanoin a 5×2 match in Savateas well. He maintained the same level of the French athlete and kept on giving counter attacks but the final decision gave the victory to the French by points.

The French newspapers showed their admiration to Zahra for an excellent exhibition. Despite the difference in the discipline he was using the same techniques of professional Savateathletes, especially those involving “jumping spinning kicks” and leg techniques to the head.

The organizer of the event is of Maltese descent and for this occasion also invited the Maltese Ambassador Pierre Clive Agius who went to Marseille especially from Paris to see the Maltese contingent. He was very pleased with the Maltese victory and was unaware that in Malta we have so much talent in this kind of sport. Both Zahra and Azzopardi train with Team Noel Ying Yang Kickboxing under Master Noel Mercieca. The next Kickboxing activity will be on the 21st ofJune for the next Gladiators Night in the Greek Theatre’at Ta ‘Qali.

On the 8^th of February, Maltese local, fighter, Daniel “the Jet” Zahra will have a professional Kickboxing match that will be televised live on Eurosportstation.

“The Jet” Zahra along with his coach, Master Noel Mercieca, will go to Portugal to compete against Bruno Torres in a professional match of 5×2 with Kickboxing rules. Both athletes will go for the World Title Belt in the 64kg category. This is an important occasion for both Zahra and the Maltese Kickboxing as he will be the first Maltese athlete of this discipline that will appear on a live broadcast on Eurosport.

The evening is organized by the World Kickboxing Network (WKN) and is known as Bigger’sBetter where eight athletes from around the world of the ‘Heavy Weight’ category will compete in Boxing. This is an event of high level and every time is broadcast live on Eurosport. Before the final Boxing match there will be the Kickboxing match between Zahra and Torres.

For the athlete of the Ying Yang Kickboxing this is only his first match for this year as for March he is invited by the French federation “International Federation of Kombat Boxing (IFKB)” to compete again with the rules of Savate.

The Ying Yang Kickboxing has become the first Maltese club to have two professional athletes who compete in this discipline. In December the president of WKN, Stefan Cabrera, announced thatRuth Tanti, because of her previous victories, now stands at a professional level and is already in the top ten in her category. In 2009 she won the Title Belt in the WKN Kickboxing World Cup which was held in Malta and in 2012 won another belt of WKN.

This sport in Malta is now beginning to increase its level on a professional one and it is time that the local authorities begin to recognize this. Thus they can help other athletes in this sport to continue to train to bring Malta’s name forward on the professional arena around the world.

World Thai Boxing Champion Back In Malta

From the 4-6 of September Ying Yang Kickboxing club will organise a Thai Boxing seminar with former World Champion Osman Yigin

Osman has a record of 198 matches in Kickboxing, K-1 and Thai Boxing and has won 16 World Titles and 28 European Titles. He is one of the most famousThai Boxers in the World Kickboxing Network (WKN).

This will be the second time that Osman will teach in Malta and the seminar will be spread on 3 days from 6pm to 8pm each day and will be held at Ying Yang Kickboxing Club in Fgura. Osman will be accompanied with two of his top professional fighters, Lello Perego and Allan Polek Gozdzicki, who on their part have World Titles as well. Together they will teach techniques in K1, Thai Boxing and clinching.

Osman came to Malta for the first time back in 2009 as a judge for the first ever WKN Kickboxing World Cup organised by the Maltese branch of the WKN. In 2011 a group of four kickboxers together with Master Noel Mercieca, founder of Ying Yang Kickboxing, went to Belgium to practice with Osman for a four day training camp.

The friendship between Osman and Master Mercieca is a clear example of Martial Arts cooperation. Due to his experience in the field of professinal competition Osman is at the same time teaching Master Mercieca in professional training for the Maltese athletes.

Ċempjin tad-Dinja tat-Thai Boxing lura f’Malta

Mill-4-6 ta’ Settembru l-klabb tal-Ying Yang Kickboxing se jorganizza seminar tat-Thai Boxing maċ-Ċempjin tad-Dinja s-Sur Osman Yigin.

Fil-karriera tiegħu Osman ħa sehem f’198 taqbida fil-Kickboxing, K-1 u Thai Boxing u rebaħ 16-it Titlu tad-Dinja u 28 Titlu Ewropew. Huwa wieħed mill-aktar atleti magħrufin tat-Thai Boxing fil-World Kickboxing Network (WKN).

Din se tkun it-tieni darba li Osman se jgħallem f’Malta u s-seminar se jitqassam fuq tlett ijiem mis-6pm sat-8pm kuljum u se jsir fil-klabb tal-Ying Yang Kickboxing fil-Fgura. Ma’ Osman se jiġu tnejn mill-atleti professjonali tiegħu, Lello Perego u Allan Polek Gozdzicki, li huma wkoll għandhom Titli tad-Dinja. On the 11 of May - Chris Debono, a member of the Ying Yang Kickboxing club will take part in a boxing tournament between athletes from three different countries. The competition will be held in the Oracle Hall, at the Dolmen hotel, Qawra.

The tournament will be one with direct elimination, where the winning athlete will keep on fighting in order to get to the final. In total there will be 7 matches of three rounds of three minutes. The Boxer that manages to defeat all the others will go back home with a prize money

Chris Debono has been training with Master Noel Mercieca, the club’s founder, for 17 years and has a Black Belt in Kickboxing. Debono started to train again in October 2011 after he stopped for 4 years. In December he took part in the competition Gladiators 2 against Tyrone Borg and for this match he had to go down from 100kg to 82kg.

The Maltese contingent will be made up of the athletes Chris Debono, Tyrone Borg and Dione Galea, while the other competitors will be one from Russia and four from England. This is the first time that in Malta is being organised a competition with direct elimination and a prize money, and all of this will happen in one night only.
