Welsh – Maltese Boxer Joe Cordina @ The Combat Games

CORDINA Joseph a boxer of Maltese origin forming part of the Welsh Olympic Boxing Team at the “World Combat Games” being held in Beijing, China – will be in action tomorrow the first of September against   VELKY Patrik of the Czech Republic in a semi finals boxing bout the winner going through to the finals on the second of September.

Cordina is participating in the 56 KG division which has seven participants from China, Tajikistan, Dominican Republic, Moldova, Jordan and the Czech Republic.

CORDINA will be in action at 13.00 (1 PM) – (6 AM in UK) – Wales has two other boxers participating, Jenklins Christopher in the 64K and Jones Andrew in the 91+K.

JENKLINS defeated KHAN Aamir of Pakistan and is through to the semi finals against HU Richabilige of China..

JONES was eliminated in the quarter finals against NISTOR Mihai of Romania.

There are four Chinese boxers participating in the games this afternoon, which drawing a large number of views to the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.

Chinese athlete MENG Fanlong raises his fists fast and fiercely, making his opponent unable to strike back, winning in the game of Boxing Men’s 81 KG Quarter Final. At the end of 2nd round, the score was 3-3. In the 3rd round, MENG Fanxiang relies on his changeable foot work, dodge and punch, entering the next round with the score of 5-3.

In the game of Boxing Men’s 52 KG Quarter Final, Chinese athlete LI Chao beat his competitor BEDIR Mohamed Sayed (EGY) win the score of 7-0, holding a position in the top 4. LI Chao gets familiar with his counterpart quickly, winning the victory of 1st round. In the next two rounds ,he depended on his rapid dodge and dominate offense, winning his opening fight with the score of 7-0. All the spectators present yell for him, and some kids also speak loudly to cheer.

The last athlete for the Semi Final of the game of boxing Men’s 60 KG belongs to Chinese athlete, LIU Qiang. He fights against SATTOROV Parviz, from Tadzhikistan. LIU Qiang control the game easily. His steady punches lead the score of the game to be 11-0, winning the victory.

Another Chinese athlete Maimaitituersunqiong beat an Czechic player with score of 13-2, entering the game of Boxing Men’s 69 KG Semi Final. His straight punch and arm feint draw a lot of applause to him. In the 2nd round, he scores 3 points in less than a minute. Although Czechic player got 2 points in the last round, he cannot change the result of the game anymore.

Until now, ten boxers from National Boxing team all have the access to the Semi Final.

Boxing – Combat Games

Zou Shiming (Photo: AIBA)Reigning Olympic Champion and Chinese national hero Zou Shiming made a perfect start at the World Combat Games in Beijing yesterday.

The 29-year-old two-time World Champion triumphed over 17-year-old Dawid Jagodzinski of Poland before the end of his opening contest when the referee stopped the unequal light flyweight class fight in the third round.

Zou Shiming advanced to the semi-final where he will face 18-year-old talented Dominican youth boxer Juan Gabriel Medina who defeated Muhibullah of Pakistan in his quarter-final bout. The Chinese star is preparing with full speed for the Asian Games, which will be held in Guangzhou in November, where he is also the defending champion.

Boxers from each AIBA Confederation except Oceania are taking part in the 1st World Combat Games in Beijing, where other martial arts and sports are also fighting for medals. The men’s boxing event is being held using the official AIBA rules and the new weight classes valid from September 1: 49, 52, 56, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91 and +91kg.

Olympic Games and World Championships quarter-finalist Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan was unexpectedly defeated by local youngster Zhang Jiawei in a close bout. The final verdict was 2:2 but the Chinese boxer won the 56kg weight class contest by accepted scores.

Wales’s Commonwealth Games candidate 22-year-old Chris Jenkins celebrated his victory over Pakistan’s Amir Khan in the 64kg weight division by a large 14:4 margin.

Tajikistan’s newcomer at international level, Navruz Jafoyev, won his first quarter-final bout against Nisar Khan of Pakistan, while strong Vladimir Milevskij of Lithuania surprisingly defeated AIBA World Championships quarter-finalist Asadullo Boimuradov from Kyrgyzstan who went up from welterweight to middleweight this year due his loss in the Kyrgyz National Championships in February.

Milan World Championships competitor Ahmad Al-Teimat of Jordan also moved up a division into heavyweight and on his debut the 23-year-old boxer knocked out Lukas Viktora of the Czech Republic to secure at least a bronze medal in Beijing.

Olympic Games silver medalist and World Championships bronze medalist Zhang Zhilei of China also had a good start in the Games, hammering Aidas Petruskevicius of Lithuania en route to the gold medal.

Romanian boxers also had a perfect first day in Beijing, with experienced heavyweight Constantin Bejenaru advancing to the semi-final when his newcomer opponent Myktybek Mamasaliyev of Kyrgyzstan abandoned the fight in the second round, while super heavyweight Mihai Nistor also won his first bout.

Thai Boxing Report (Combat Games)

altBeijing, 29th August-The Thai traditional music announced the beginning of Muaythai at Sportaccord Combat Games 2010 Beijing. Muaythai, which is regarded as the ultimate combat, has a deep bond with the Thai traditional culture and profound link with religion. Ceremonies, such as apprenticeship to a master, combat courtesy and Thai dancing, are the demonstration of Thai’s rich religious art. One deceased Muaythai master once said: Muaythai is the treasure of all the Thai people. Nowadays, Muaythai enjoys a striking popularity across the world.

The first combat of Muaythai was Men’s 54kg Quarter Final. Malaysian athlete YAAKUB MA swept the table against Iran’s MADAI M. with the prayer of the music, Malaysian athlete quickly got into his position after the fathom in first round. His precise hit knocked the Iranian in the third round.

Spectators’ warm cheers unveiled the curtain of second combat. In Men’s 54kg Quarter Final, LIAO Zhenghui fought with integrity against Thai’s PALEENARAM S. Therefore, the glorious defeat didn’t depress us.

In Men’s 57kg Quarter Final, Chinese Wang Kang hit MADADI B from Kazakhstanmercilessly, which won him a ticket to Semi Final.

1:4, the final score of Men’s 63.5kg Quarter Final, witnessed the defeat of China’s ZHANG Dezheng against Sweden’s AKHTAR. Winner’s powerful kick prevented ZHANG’s chance to enter the Semi Final.

Another ticket for Semi Final was gained by ZHANG Xiaolong from China. His brisk pace and vigilant duck made up for his short height.

Eight ranks of Men’s Muaythai and three ranks of Women’s Muaythai took place tonight. The Semi Finals will begin on 31 August. Let’s wait for the extreme confrontation presented by the athletes.

King of Boxing ZOU Shiming won in his opening fight (Combat Games)

BEIJING, 30th August – When mentioned boxing, Chinese athlete ZOU Shiming is so famous that even women and children all know. His playing– “Private assault” is well known in the world. His fists are fast and fierce. And when he offenses, he could rise his fists in jig time. When he defenses, he could seek the chance to onset suddenly, scoring the points easily. As a Chinese saying, “No pride for the victory, no discouragement for the failure, those who keep calm physically and mentally, can be the ace.” There is no doubt that he will live forever in the history of boxing, being the leader of Chinese Boxers.

In the game of Men’s boxing 56 KG Quarter Final, ZOU Shiming beat his opponent, DAWID JAGODZINSKI (POL). He is so experienced that he performed very well both in the offense and defense, winning the 1st round with the score of 3-0. In the second round, his flexible movements confused his competitor, who is not able to strike back any more. ZOU Shiming brought his lead to 6-0. In the 3rd round, ZOU Shiming hold the dominate position, making the game done soon. His excellent performance offers a great feast for eyes to the spectators.

Zou Shiming will move on. It is only a beginning of his fascinating games.

JUANMEDINA HERRAD (DOM) entered the game of boxing Men’s 46-49 KG Final. MAHAMMAD ALWADI (JO) gets the access to the game of boxing Men’s 56 KG Semi Final. AHMAD ATEIMAT (JO) will appear in the court of boxing Men’s 91 KG Semi Final, and the same goes for TOMASZ DUSZAK, from Poland.

Sumo – World Combat Games (Day 2)

altBEJING, 29th August – For the second sumo competition day, 77 excellent athletes all over the world inspired enthusiasm and exerted themselves to win the games. More and more spectators swarmed into the CAU gymnasium enthusiastically. The sound of cheering filled into the whole gym to welcome the grand sumo competition.

The first match is the Sumo Women’s Lightweight competition. During the bronze medal match, Svitlana TROSIUK (UKR) defeated the opponent by uwate-nage after boosting by the applause of the spectators full of the vigorous enjoyment. The highlight following was the final of women’s lightweight. The girl from Bulgarianamed Anna METODIEVA calmly pushed the opponent to the edge of the ring. After a 5 seconds standoff, Anna suddenly beat the rival down by yoki-kiri and win the final. Nelli VOROBYENA (RUS) helplessly claimed the silver medal.

On the Men’s Lightweight, the final should be fought out between Nachyn MONGUSH (RUS) and Gantugs RENTSEDORJ (MGL). Nachyn toppled Gantugs by kala-sukashi rapidly. The final just took 5 seconds. The bronze medal went to SHIMAKO Takashi (JPN).

The Women Heavyweight Sumo competitions showed the combination of strenth and skills, In one of the semifinals, facing the bigger and stronger rival, the Ukraine player showed no fear on her face. Before the match, they saw each other straightly for a long time. After the fierce strike, they fall into the competition of strength; both of them nearly stopped moving. Suddenly, Svitlana IAROMKA topple Anna ZHIGALOVA by uwate-dasui-hage, progressing into the final. The other semifinal was the stage ready for the Ukraine big woman Svitana IAROMKA and the Russian Sumo Women’s lightweight runner-up. At the beginning, they both gazed at each other. Neither of them acted rashly not willing to show their flaws to the opponent. All the spectators centered on the ring preventing missing even a little part of the final. And then the Russian athlete kept swinging her huge body to delude her opponent. Suddenly Snitana used yoki-kiri in a skillfully masterful manner and get the access to the final. Anna ZHIGALOVA (RUS)took the bronze medal comfortably. The final competition was the Ukraine derby. By the monsterlike body, Olga DAVYDKO won the gold medal overwhelmingly. Svitlana IAROMAYA stood in the second place.

In Men’s Openweight matches, the gold and bronze medal matches almost were the copies of the Heavyweight matches. And even the final competition was just the same as yesterday. Russian athlete Alan Karaev won the gold medal by beating his Japanese counterpart Tanaka Hiroaki again. Tanaka used any possible method, trying to avoid close-range struggle, however, because of the gap of strength and physical conditions with his opponent, he was pushed out of the field, missing the championship. In the tournament of bronze medal, Byambajav Ulambayar from Mongolia played against his old “friend” Shimako Takashi. Byambajav did his best, trying to beat Shimako, for he had been beaten by his Japanese opponent in the Heavyweight matches. By his perseverance and his advantage in strength, he justled Shimako out of the stage and won the bronze medal at last.

Until the end of this day, the Sumo competition on this Sportaccord Combat Games Beijing dropped it’s curtain perfectly. Russia which won 4 gold medals undoubtably became the biggest winner in the sumo followed by Ukraine and Japan.
