Adamek vs Peter Eliminator

On Monday, Lindsey E. Tucker, Jr., Championship Chairman of the IBF/USBA sent a letter to representatives of former WBC Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter, as well as representatives of former cruiserweight/light heavyweight champion and current heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek inquiring if the two would be available to fight for the #2 spot in their rankings.
The winner of the proposed bout would then fight the winner of a box-off between “Fast” Eddie Chambers and Derrick Rossy (who will battle for the #1 position) for the mandatory shot at IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko.
“Samuel got an early Christmas present from the IBF in the form of this elimination fight and we’ve been going back and forth with Main Events about making it happen,” said Peter’s long-time manager Ivaylo Gotzev.
According to the IBF’s letter, “On September 15, 2010 the IBF ordered a box off in the Heavyweight division between the 4 highest rated available boxers. At the time, the 4 highest rated available contenders were #4, Denis Boytsov, #8, Alexander Dimitrenko, #9, Jean Marc Mormeck and #10, Jonathon Banks. All four of the original challengers have pulled out of the IBF Heavyweight Box Off.”
Thus, Team Peter was given three days to affirm the fighter’s availability, but their response was immediate. “We are

ready willing and able to fight Adamek,” Gotzev continued. “Hopefully he’s ready to do the same. We’re looking forward to making this significant heavyweight matchup a reality. We’re even willing to accommodate Adamek and fight him in his homeland of Poland. This box-off is a terrific idea that involves four top contenders, which will produce one man standing at the end and that will be the legitimate number one mandatory contender.”
Top Rank Drop Samuel Peter

After only five fights, former World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-4, 27 KO’s) was released by Top Rank on Friday, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Top Rank signed the 30-year-old Peter after he had been beaten in back to back fights by Vitali Klitschko and Eddie Chambers.
Peter rebounded with the help of careful matchmaking by Top Rank to win his next four fights, albeit against 2nd tier opposition. However, when Peter looked terrible in getting stopped in the 10th round by IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on September 11th, Top Rank decided to cut Peter lose rather than continue to promote him. Peter has tried and lost to the Klitschko’s on three separate occasions.
Peter would most probably do well against most in the heavyweight division he is one of the hardest hitting boxers even if his shots have a tendency to miss their mark. However with the Ukranian brothers he is nowadays vastly outclassed. It is a pity for boxing fans that we will most probably never see Peter up against the likes of Haye, of course this is wishful thinking – Haye is very selective and would never select Peter willing as an opponent.

WBA world heavyweight champion, David Haye says the reasons why the talks broke down between him and the Klitschko brothers are financial – ”I wanted equal division of royalties, 50% of all income, including profits from ticket sales, but, they refused, because of their contract with the German television station RTL – Unlike me, they want a larger share of income. They do not want to share, that is unacceptable” – says Haye to Boxingscene.com. – “Then I suggested an alternative. They get all the profits from German television, and I from the UK station, again the answer was negative. “ Haye’s feels that the brothers are not acting correctly and vows not to cave in under the pressure of negotiations.
