Frank Warren Says: About Ricky Burns

Frank Warren

Ricky Burns has received a boost in his quest for a unification fight later this year.

IBF champion and new world number one Mzonke Fana seems keen on the idea.

The 37-year-old South African’s management team have indicated they would be open to offers.

Fana has a 30-4-1 (12) record, and although those stats are impressive, he looks beatable.

Burns is in action again on March 12 at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow, when he defends his WBO super-featherweight title against another African, Joseph Laryea.

He made no secret of his desire to challenge Fana – or another of the super-featherweight champions – earlier this year.

Ricky Burns

Thoughts on Ricky Burns next fight vs Joseph Laryea is placed here. Ricky Burns to defend WBO super featherweight title against Joseph Laryea at Braehead Arena on March 12. This has been reaffirmed by one of the biggest promoters in UK, Frank Warren. This is the second time he will look to defend his title.
There is also a belief that the presence of Burns could get in a lot of fans baying for him. The reason behind this is that Burns has had a more stable record in recent times than some of the otherboxers that his country has produced – making it an interesting battle.
On the other hand, Laryea hasn’t had the best of times with winning against the top boxers. He beat Paul Appleby in an encounter earlier to gain the right to fight Burns and despite being the underdog, he will look to guts it out in the ring.

WBA world heavyweight champion, David Haye says the reasons why the talks broke down between him and the Klitschko brothers are financial –  ”I wanted equal division of royalties, 50% of all income, including profits from ticket sales, but, they refused, because of their contract with the German television station RTL – Unlike me, they want a larger share of income. They do not want to share, that is unacceptable” – says Haye to Boxingscene.com. – “Then I suggested an alternative. They get all the profits from German television, and I from the UK station, again the answer was negative. “ Haye’s feels that the brothers are not acting correctly and vows not to cave in under the pressure of negotiations.
