AIBA Women’s World Ranking System
The International Boxing Association has just announced its new ‘Women’s World Ranking System’.
Being a historic year for Women’s boxing and with the discipline making its debut at the Olympic Games in London, AIBA stated it wanted to further promote the development of the sport by offering a points and performance based ranking system.
This very first ranking edition includes the results at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships Barbados 2010, the AIBA Youth Women’s World Boxing Championships Antalya 2011, the European Women’s Boxing Championships Rotterdam 2011, the 2012 American Women’s Championships and the 2012 Asian Women’s Championships.
“Launching the AIBA Women’s World Ranking makes me really proud. I have always been convinced that the future of our sport will be led by Women’s participation. Boxing is growing very fast and I cannot wait to witness the first women boxers competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games”, said Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, AIBA President.
At the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships Qinhuangdao 2012, the AIBA Seeding Commission will review all current rankings and approved the seeding immediately after the General Weigh-in and before the Official Draw.

Philippines’ AIBA Youth World Championships quarter-finalist 18-year-old youth boxer Mark Anthony Barriga had a very hard contest against Uzbekistan’s Alisher Mahmudov who led by 1:0 against him after the first round of the semi-final contest, but the Filippino turned the bout and won it by 4:1. Barriga received his first international gold medal after defeating the local youth boxer Shakhobiddin Zoirov by 4:1 in the light flyweight final.
Uzbekistan’s Asian Games quarter-finalist Shahriyor Isakov firstly eliminated him teammate Olim Khusanboyev by 3:1 for the medal and followed that victory he was too strong for Tastemir Bibosynov of Kazakhstan in the flyweight semi-final. Isakov had an unexpectedly close final contest against Mirbek Sherov of Kyrgyzstan but won 3:2.
Uzbek National Champion 20-year-old Shokhrukh Khudjabekov defeated Philippines’ former Asian Games winner veteran Joan Tipon who made an impressive comeback after his serious shoulder injury. Khudjabekov also did his best during the final and picked up his third point just before the final gong with the scores 3:2 in the Uzbek’s favour.
Uzbekistan’s Chemistry Cup silver medalist rising power Fazliddin Gaibnazarov triumphed over Kyrgyzstan’s 21-year-old Abdylai Anarbay Ulu by 12:4 in the lightweight semi-final and Kazakhstan’s former National Champion Aydar Amirzakov by 5:4 for the gold, while Uzbekistan’s 19-year-old great talent Kobiljon Bobodjanov secured the bronze medal.

Uzbekistan Nodirbek Kasimov, who lost the semi-final at last year’s edition, converted his bronze into a gold medal this year by defeating Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Championships quarter-finalist Rustam Svayev by 5:4, while Uzbekistan’s welterweight No.1 and Asian Games silver medalist Uktamjon Rahmonov managed only the third place.
Uzbekistan’s middleweight No.2 the former Asian Junior Championships bronze medalist 21-year-old Shukhrat Abdullayev defeated 20-year-old Botirsher Obidov in their final while Youth Olympic Games silver medalist and Belgrade Winner Tournament gold medalist Ahmad Mamadjonov of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan’s Dauren Yeleussinov both took third place in Tashkent.
In the light heavyweight class Bobur Yuldashev triumphed over the new Kazakh National Champion Arman Rysbek by 3:1 in the semi-final and followed that great success with the gold medal after beating his team-mate and titleholder Muhammadyusuf Saidov. Turkmenistan’s talented youth boxer Aziz Achilov missed out on a medal in Tashkent.
Uzbekistan’s 20-year-old Rustam Tulyaganov caused one of the biggest surprises at the tournament where he triumphed over his compatriot Chemistry Cup winner Mirzokhidjon Abdullayev who is the Central Asian nation’s best heavyweight boxer.
The super heavyweight class resulted in an Uzbek dominance where four local athletes reached the semi-final. In WSB boxer Sardor Abdullayev’s absence Ahmad Sarimsakov claimed the gold medal after beating Izzatulla Ergashev in the final, while 17-year-old Ulugbek Mubinov secured the bronze and has great expectations at the forthcoming Asian Youth Championships.

AIBA President in Historic Reelection
AIBA: Almaty, Kazakhstan, November 2, 2010
Earlier today Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu, made history when AIBA members reelected him by acclamation and in a great show of support for his landmark reforms in the sport of boxing.

The 106 member countries represented at the 2010 Congress of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) today voted by acclamation for Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu from Chinese Taipei to serve a second four-year term as the President of the Association.
The result returns Wu, a member of the International Olympic Committee and AIBA member for 25 years, for a further four years as the head of the association which he has headed since 2006, when he put an end to the tenure of former president Anwar Choudry from Pakistan on a reform ticket.
As the only candidate for the election, Wu was voted in by acclamation as the delegates gave him a standing ovation. Furthermore, four Confederation Presidents were also re-elected as Vice-Presidents of the Association: Dr Abdullah Bessalem for the African Boxing Confederation; Domingo Solano for the American Boxing Confederation; Dr Humbert Furgoni for the European Boxing Confederation and Keith Walker for the Oceania Boxing Confederation.
“I want to thank all the delegates for your confidence and trust placed in me,” Wu said after the election. “I clearly remember four years ago in Santo Domingo when I was elected President I delivered my election speech. The first thing I said is that the President of AIBA is a servant of boxing for AIBA and for our national federations. I now repeat this. With your confidence and trust I will continue to give my commitment to you. In the past four years I have travelled over 300 days a year. Maybe over the next four years this will be over 350 days a year.”
“We have a lot of work. Although we have achieved many things, you have all demonstrated that you want the new AIBA; you want continuous reform; you want a very clean, honest and transparent organization. I give this commitment to you: I will do everything I can to make sure we are a clean organization. We have a lot of prospects, a lot of vision and a lot of new work ahead of us. I need you to really unite with me. No organization can survive and have strength if it is internally divided. So with this plea from me, let’s work hand in hand for the next four years.”
Congress delegates also ratified three new provisional members today, bringing the organization’s total number of member federations to 195. The new members are Guinea Bissau, Tanzania and Kiribati, one of the world’s smallest countries by surface area.
