AUSSIE OLYMPIC STAR DAMIEN HOOPER SIGNS WITH HATTON PROMOTIONS

Author: HATTON PROMOTIONS are delighted to announce the signing of 2012 London Olympian Damien Hooper.
The 22-year-old Australian light-heavyweight, who is from a proud aboriginal heritage, defeated Marcus Browne of the United States last summer prior to being edged out by Russia’s eventual gold medallist Egor Mekhontcev.
Before that Hooper had won a gold medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore and a silver at the Youth World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan that same year.
A number of promotional outfits were interested in obtaining the Aussie puncher’s signature, but he feels Ricky Hatton is the right man to lead him to success in the professional side of the sport.
“I feel privileged to be signed with Hatton Promotions, the team is fantastic and Ricky is a legend,” Damien said.
“I’m going to make some big statements quickly in the pro ranks and I couldn’t think of a better promoter than Hatton Promotions to showcase my skill to the world.
“It’s the next chapter in my life and I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time. I have done my apprenticeship in amateurs and learnt as much possible. Now with my trainer Gareth Williams it’s time to put in the hard work and repay the faith everybody has shown in me.
“I want to thank my management Brendan Bourke, Matt Clark and Philippe Fondu and of course Hatton Promotions”.
Matt Clark said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Damien has signed with Hatton Promotions. I truly believe that along with Cameron Hammond, Hatton Promotions have signed two of Australia’s most talented young boxers and the cream of the 2012 Olympic squad.
“Hatton Promotions now have three Australian’s on their books, with Lucas ‘Big Daddy’ Browne blazing a trail for Damien and Cameron to follow and I know they’re keen to develop promising young boxers in this part of the world.

MUNROE WARNS QUIGG: I’LL FINISH THE JOB
RENDALL MUNROE is desperate to get to grips with Scott Quigg in next month’s vacant interim WBA super-bantamweight title clash.
The pair meet again at Manchester Arena in one of several big undercard fights when Ricky Hatton (45-2) makes his return against Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-1) on Saturday November 24.
Their first meeting in June ended prematurely in a third round technical draw because of a horrific cut to Rendall’s right eye.
Such an inconclusive ending was a disappointment to both warriors and the Leicester southpaw (24-2-1) warned British champion Quigg (24-0-1) said: “I will finish what I started.
“Everything is going good and I am already fit. I am going to go out there and do what needs to be done.
“Scott will turn around and say he was going to knock me out last time and all that rubbish. Fair play to him for having those dreams.
“We were only two and a half rounds into the fight and I was confident I was going to do what I wanted. I hadn’t even started getting going.
“I live clean and healthy so that helped the cut heal up quickly. I have been in full training for more than four weeks now.
“It is good that so many people will see the fight on a big card, because it will show I am still hungry and climbing the ladder.”
Although Ricky’s return has grabbed global headlines, his show features the best of British on a magnificent undercard.
Sergey Rabchenko (21-0) defends his European light-middleweight crown against Frenchman Cedric Vitu (35-1), Martin Murray (24-0-1) will feature in a major contest and Gary Buckland (26-2) risks his British super-featherweight title against local idol Stephen Foster Jr (30-3-1).
Also in action are Hatton Promotions hopefuls James Dickens (12-0), Adam Etches (9-0) and Scott Jenkins (6-0).

Rabchenko’s Gets Hatton Boost
SERGEY RABCHENKO believes having Ricky Hatton fighting his corner will spur him on to European light-middleweight title glory on Saturday night.
The Belarussian, 26, meets Sheffield’s former champion Ryan Rhodes on Hatton Promotions ‘Road To Glory’ bill at Manchester Velodrome.
Rabchenko who has won all 20 fights, 15 by KO said: “I have had more than nine weeks training with Ricky at the Hatton gym and it has allowed to me into get into the best shape of my career.
“Ricky was always one of my favourite fighters and it has been a fantastic experience getting his expertise.
“We have also been running together and he has taught me some English words although I am not sure how many I should repeat.
“I have got a lot of respect for Ryan Rhodes previous achievement’s as a professional boxer, but that now it’s my time and I’ll be the new European champion on Saturday.
There are three other major contests on the bill.
There is a potential ‘Fight of the Year’ when Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe square off for the vacant interim WBA super-bantamweight title.

Road To Glory Fighters Ready To Go
HATTON Promotions CEO Ricky Hatton hosted a packed final press conference ahead of Saturday’s bumper ‘Road To Glory’ bill at Manchester Velodrome.
The stacked show is the mushrooming promotional organisation’s biggest ever card with a stack of competitive matches.
It features four major fights including the vacant interim WBA super-bantamweight title bout between Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe.
Bury’s unbeaten Quigg, 23, said: “This is my coming out fight and the one that takes me to the next level.
“Forget what boxers like Carl Frampton say, Rendall is the number one in Britain and I will take over that honour when I win. I am one million per-cent confident.”
Former European champion Munroe recently gave up his job as a binman, and the Leicester southpaw said: “I have already proven myself at elite level.
“I have had to wait patiently and bide my time but Ricky Hatton has delivered for me and I will shine once again.”
Sheffield’s Ryan Rhodes will be challenging Sergey Rabchenko for the vacant European light-middleweight championship.
Rhodes was disappointed that his promoter Hatton is training Rabchenko for their encounter, but insisted: “I am over that now and got my mind on Rabchenko.
Ryan’s fellow steel city fighter Richard Towers squares off against Frenchman Gregory Tony for the vacant EU heavyweight crown.
Towers warned: “Respect is earned in the ring, but men like Tyson Fury and David Price need to take note that I am here.
In a special attraction British middleweight champion Martin Murray meets French title holder Karim Achour.
If the St Helens fighter passes his French test, Hatton promised a major announcement in the coming weeks about a big fight for the unbeaten star.

Quigg: Time to put up or shut up
SCOTT QUIGG admits that he must deliver when he faces former boxing binman Rendall Munroe next week.
The classy pair for the vacant interim WBA super-bantamweight title at Manchester Velodrome on Saturday June 16 in a brilliant domestic match-up.
Unbeaten British champion Quigg doesn’t have the experience of Leicester’s former European champion, but believes lonely training trips to Los Angeles will pay off.
Bury’s Quigg, 23, said: “I know what I am capable of from when I went to America and sparred with Guillermo Rigondeaux and Jose Benavidez.
“They are better fighters than Rendall and I have held my own with them in the gym.
“Nobody has seen me do it at that level in the ring because I have not had the chance.
“Now I have – it is time to put up or shut up. I need to step up.”
The talent stacked ‘Road To Glory’ card is Hatton Promotions biggest so far, and there will be even bigger shows later this year.
