Important Statement From The President Of The Malta Boxing Commission
22-May-2012
Whilst the world wide media have been focused on the issues surrounding the proposed Dereck Chisora versus David Haye in London on July 14th, elsewhere in the World a not too dissimilar scenario has been unfolding on the Islands of Malta.
Unlike in the case of Dereck Chisora or David Haye, where no criminal charges have been instigated, former Commonwealth Champion Scott Dixon, the subject of the drama unfolding in Malta, has been on bail since 2009 awaiting trial for the alleged importation and distribution of narcotics.
On receiving news that Mr. Dixon has been arrested for breaking his bail conditions, Alexander Zammit, President of the Malta Boxing Commission, today issued the following statement:
“The incorrigible former commonwealth boxing champ, Scott Dixon, is back behind bars. Information supplied to the office of the Malta Boxing Commission indicates that Dixon was arrested for breaking his bail conditions.
Unconfirmed sources also informed us that Dixon’s bail bond was withdrawn before he was re-arrested.
Dixon is presently in Malta (where he has resided since 2005) awaiting trial in connection over the alleged importation and attempted distribution of around 500 Kilos of cannabis or resin cannabis, since 2009. He was eventually given provisional liberty against a bail bond of over 30,000 Euros.
Hours before Dixon was arrested early on Saturday morning (19 May, 2012), he was acting as a corner-man for the organisers of Malta’s ‘Prize Boxer’, an eight-men unsanctioned boxing tournament based on the ‘Prize Fighter’ concept.
Sources at ringside place Dixon at the tournament into the early hours of Saturday morning (from Friday night), well beyond the parameters established in his bail conditions by the local courts.
This latest episode in the Dixon saga may have put paid to Dixon’s
comeback plans. According to the German based ‘World Boxing Union’ Scott Dixon was to take on Baker Barakat (champion) for his WBU
super-middleweight title on the 18th August in Pembroke, Malta.
Sources from within the WBU confirm that this bout is being sanctioned by the German Boxing Board (BDB).
On the other hand – The BDB are presently condemning very strongly and labeling as controversial a contest between David Haye and Dereck Chisora at West Ham on July 14, sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation (LBF).
Just as Chisora and Haye do not hold a valid license with the BBBofC or the BDB – neither does Scott Dixon hold a boxing license with the Malta Boxing Commission (MBC). As a matter of fact he was refused a license by the MBC until such time as the Maltese authorities either declared him innocent of the charges against him or such charges are dropped.
Yet the BDB (according to the WBU) saw fit to sanction this Malta show and one has to assume that if this show were to happen this would also be done under a German Boxing License as Dixon’s license was suspended by the BBBofC before he took up residence in Malta.
Is this a case of two weights and two measures? – The BDB should never have sanctioned an event involving Scott Dixon, especially since this is being held in Malta.
In my opinion the proposed Barakat – Dixon fight is much more condemnable than the Haye – Chisora fight.
If the Luxembourg Boxing Federation is to be condemned for supplying the legality for the Haye – Chisora proposed fight, the Germans should also, at the very least, be equally condemned over the Barakat – Dixon scheduled fight.

Super middleweight – Robert Stieglitz 39(23)-2(2)-0 defeated Khoren Gevor 31(16)-5(2)-0 by DQ 10 / 12 time: 2:45 - WBO super middleweight title (supervisor: John Duggan)

WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (Now 40-2, 23 KOs) kept his belt with a ten round disqualification win over Khoren Gevor (31-6, 16 KOs). In a very good action fight, Stieglitz was the sharper puncher, cutting Gevor cut over the left eye in round three and regularly beating the challenger to the punch. As always, Gevor showed great toughness and determination. Things became very rough in tenth round. After Gevor was deducted a point by referee Manfred Küchler, both fighters crashed down hard to the canvas after wrestling and Stieglitz emerged with a cut over his right eye. Gevor was then disqualified. Extremely upset, Gevor later threw some punches at Küchler and was removed by security.
Super featherweight – Ramona Kuehne 17(5)-1(1)-0 defeated Arleta Krausova 4(1)-0(0)-0 on UD 10 / 10 – WIBF Women’s International Boxing Federation super featherweight title (supervisor: Jean-Marcel Nartz) – WBO female super featherweight title (supervisor: John Duggan) & World Boxing Federation super featherweight title (supervisor: Jean-Marcel Nartz)

Kühne (now 18-1, 5 KOs) defended her titles with a clear ten round unanimous decision over late sub Arleta Krausova. Scores were 98-92, 98-91, 99-91. Original foe Michelle Larissa Bonassoli couldn’t make the weight and was replaced. Kühne dedicated the fight to friend and fellow boxer Rola El-Halabi, who was forced to retire after being shot shortly before stepping into the ring last weekend.
Benjamin Simon Ready for Anyone

No boxing weight class is more firmly in the grips of German hands than the Middleweight division, with the World champions Felix Sturm (WBA), Sebastian Sylvester (IBF) and Sebastian Zbik (WBC Interim Champion). On 1st April a fourth German will be fighting to put himself in pole position to challenge for those Titles.
The 28 year-old Berliner, Benjamin ‘Iron Ben’ Simon (20-1-19 ko’s) faces Australian Sam Soliman in an IBF World title eliminator at the Digibet Pferdesportpark,Berlin. A win against the experienced Aussie would propel “Iron Ben” to No. 2 in the IBF World rankings and would bring the possibility of an all German duel with Sebastian Sylvester a step closer.
“ My goal is for a World Title fight this year “ says a confident Benjamin Simon, “I don’t really care whether it is against Sylvester or one of the other World champions. An all German battle is always very popular with the boxing fans. Therefore I will make every effort to defeat Sam and become the mandatory challenger for the IBF. If however Felix Sturm the WBA Champion decides he wants to fight me, then I am ready to take him or anyone on.”
Before Simon can think about which Title he may get a shot at, he has to dispose of 37-year-old “King” Soliman (39-11-17 ko’s) a pro since 1997 from Melbourne, Australia who has fought many top boxers including Anthony Mundine, Sakio Bika and Ronald ‘Winky’ Wright.
Robert Rolle, coach and manager of Simon said “ there’s no doubt that Soliman has been in with some of the world’s best and this will certainly be the toughest fight in Benny’s career, but when your target is to be a World Champion, you have to get in with the best en route to a Title shot. We are preparing in the best possible way ahead of this difficult fight. If Benny reproduces the form he has shown in training he will most certainly overcome Soliman.”
The World Title eliminator is just one of the highlights of this fantastic card being held jointly by Arena Sports Promotion and Prime Time Event & Entertainment.
Other fights on the card will include two women’s World Title fights featuring Jennifer Retzke’s (Light Middleweight) second attempt to secure a World crown against Eva Halasi and Rola El Halarbi (Lightweight) looking to add another title to her haul with victory against Irma Baligajic Adler.
The undefeated Heavyweight Yakup Saglam and Michael Wallisch will be competing for the German International Title. In addition, Varol Vekiloglu fights Mohammed Rasuli for the IBF east/west European Light Heavyweight Title.
Also on the card will be exciting unbeaten Heavyweight Erkan Teper, and the return of Alexander Petkovic against Raymond ‘King Kong’ Ochieng, following his highly controversial draw against Timo Hoffmann in October last year.
“Overall, we will give the audience a first-class fight evening with many exciting duels”, promises ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner and PRIME-TIME supremo Eva Rolle. “The theme for this show sported ringside will be ‘ Back to Boxing ‘ . Bringing high quality boxing to the fans and we are sure that everyone will have an evening to remember

Jennifer Retzke Eyes IBF Title in Berlin
By Andrew Millwall
10-02-2011
Jennifer Retzke, the 26 year old German women’s Welterweight champion from Berlin, is hoping to fulfill her ambition of winning a World Title as she attempts to secure the vacant IBF Women’s Light Middleweight Championship belt at her second attempt in Berlin on the 1st April 2011.
The PrimeTime Management team of Robert and Eva Rolle, already having staged the first ever IBF Women’s World Title fight last November in Berlin are all geared up to put on yet another fantastic spectacular for the second one, with the full support of the IBF.
Jennifer is moving up to Light Middleweight in search of glory following her narrow defeat to Kiwi Daniella Smith in the Welterweight ranks.
Although the defeat must have hurt, Jennifer has shown dogged determination to train hard and put that disappointment behind her to challenge for the World Title she desires.
Jennifer spoke in a recent interview and stated she is even more motivated to secure the Title following her setback last year, “I didn’t really think I’d lost the fight, but the knockdown I suffered late in the fight swayed the judges in Daniella’s favour.
As shown before even though I was the home fighter – Eva Rolle makes sure that the judges/referees appointed are 100% honest for all to see, so I knew it would not be a hometown decision “.
Robert Rolle has been instrumental in increasing Jenny’s physical and mental training in preparation for this fight, and they have spent a lot of extra time working hard in the gym, so much so that both feel Jennifer will be suited to the higher weight division.
Robert has been working on all aspects of Jenny’s boxing and is confident that along with her undoubted skills, her determination to succeed will spur her on to victory.
Training appears to have gone very well and the one thing clear is
that both Jennifer and Robert are expecting to hold the Title belt aloft in April.
Promoter Eva Rolle stated ” We are very excited about promoting this show, and it would be great to see Jennifer win the Title.
The IBF have given me their full support and I am immensely grateful to them for the trust they have put in me to introduce the IBF to Women’s boxing, and I look forward to working with them over the coming years “.
