Media Advisory: PRESS CONFERENCE: Friday 8th June

All members of the media are cordially invited to attend a press conference previous to Malta’s Kickboxing Nationals 2012 were sixteen matches and two amateur WKN World Title Bouts will be held at MFCC, Ta’Qali on Saturday 9^th June.

• WHEN: Friday 8^th June

• WHERE: Fortina Hotel,Tigne Seafront, SLM 3012 Sliema.

• TIME: 11:00 – 13:00hrs

• Who: WKN Kickboxing Amateur World Title Challengers: Reuben AZZOPARDI (Malta) and Stefani JACOPO (Italy) Ruth TANTI (Malta) and Candeloro Deborah (Italy) Coaches and kickboxing athletes from the participating clubs.

Malta’s Kickboxing night of the year is back as Gladiators Promotions are organising the 3^rd edition of Gladiators Night on the 9^th of June at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali. This event will feature 17 matches of which two will be for the World Kickboxing Network’s (WKN) Amateur World Title Belt.

The local clubs that will take part in the event are Ying Yang, New Kickboxing Club, Wu Shu Ky, Art of Fighting, Tao Kickboxing, and Shiroi Tora Shokotan. Out of these, 28 athletes will compete against each other in different weight categories and other 2 will compete against foreign Kickboxers.

The promoters of the event, Master Noel Mercieca and Mr Isaac Chetcuti, will start the night at 7pm with 5 Kickboxing supporting matches followed by 10 for National Title Belts.  Each match will be of 3X2 and all the athletes will be wearing protection equipment.

Isaac Chetcuti, member of the Ying Yang Club, was officially challenged by Adrian Debono, member of the Wu Shu Ky, for the Middleweight Title Belt. This is the first time that a Title Belt holder has been challenged to defend it.

The main matches will see two members of Ying Yang going to be for the male 77kg category and the female 50kg category for the WKN Amateur World Title Belt. Reuben Azzopardi will compete against Jacopo Stefani from Italy in a 5X2 match with K1 rules which include knee techniques. Ruth Tanti will compete against Candeloro Deborah from Italy in a 5X2 match with Kickboxing rules.

Fight fans in the Mediterranean island of Malta are in for a special treat this weekend as Extreme Promotions a local sport promotion company proudly presents ‘Fight Night’ at Sky Club, Paceville. The event will include Boxing and K1 on the main card and will feature some of the best Maltese fight artists against local and international opposition. The fighters on the main card hail from Malta, United Kingdom and the Slovakian Republic.

Main Card

Boxing – Malta’s Scott Dixon (Former Commonwealth & Empire Champion) will be facing Craig Allman, from the Samurai Fitness and Martial Arts Gym in Manchester UK.

Recently crowned WUMA World Kickboxing Champion, home grown Steve Martin will be facing Viktor Stellar, from the Dragon Trnava Gym in the Slovakian Republic, in a K1 bout. Martin works out at the Wu Shu Kai Kickboxing and Dixon’s Gym.

In another K1 bout Renald Tabone of Bertu’s Gym, Gharghur, takes on Maros Lugar also from the Slovakian Republic and the Dragon Trnava Gym.

On the Undercard

Kickboxing – Terence Cilia of the Ying Yang, Kickboxing club of Fgura, takes on Scott Richards from the Samurai Fitness and Martial Arts Gym in Manchester UK.

The start of the evening show will be a clash between two local kickboxing prospects Tyrone Borg of the Wu Shu Kai, against Nicholas Ellul from the Ying Yang club
