- Wales‘ Nathan Cleverly wins writers’ young boxer award. — European light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly has won the Boxing Writers’ Young Boxer of the Year award.
Welshman Cleverly, 23, was beaten to the title by Sheffield’s Kell Brook last year but has impressed in 2010.
The Cefn Fforest fighter defeated Karo Murat in Birmingham last month in a final eliminator for the WBO title.
“I am delighted and honoured to have won,” said undefeated Cleverly, who also passed his maths degree at Cardiff University earlier this year - Having defeated Murat in Birmingham last month, Cleverly is now on the verge of fighting for the full WBO crown.

- Commonwealth Boxing — The official weigh-in for the boxing competition at the Commonwealth Games has been put back until Tuesday after complaints the test scales were faulty. - Australia also raised concerns over the official scales after one of their fighters was deemed overweight. - Several boxers were left shedding weight to reach desired categories. - Australian spokesman John Gatfield said: “They went to the sauna trying to lose weight and when they came back, weighed more than the last reading.” - The scales will be recalibrated for the weigh-in to take place on the morning of the opening bouts.

- George Groves will defend his Commonwealth title against James Obede Toney. Haymaker have confirmed that the Ghanaian will be Grove’s opponent. - Pacquiao’s media day — Promoter Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao are holding a media day at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the Filipino fighter’s high-altitude training camp in Baguio City in the Philippines. - “It should be a huge event,” said Arum from Los Angeles on Monday. – Pacquiao is currently training in Baguio City which has an elevation of more than 5,000 feet with a cool climate and rugged terrain for the November 13 showdown with Antonio Margarito at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

- Maidana Vegas camp — WBA interim super lightweight champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana will be headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada as he prepares for his showdown on December 11 with the WBA super lightweight world champion Amir Khan at the Mandalay Bay. Maidana will be accompanied from Argentina by trainer Cristian Rodríguez and advisor Sebastián Contursi, and will also work with trainer Miguel Diaz.

- Roy Jones Jr., citing a hand injury, withdrew from his scheduled Oct. 7 cruiserweight fight with Danny Santiago. — Square Ring Promotions, Jones’ company, announced it was postponing the entire card, which was to have featured boxing matches and mixed martial arts bouts at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla., Jones’ hometown.
“Roy’s manager, McGee Wright, informed me that Roy injured his left hand while sparring on Saturday and that on Monday, he went to the doctor and X-rays were taken,” said John Wirt, CEO of Square Ring Promotions. “While the X-rays do not show a fracture, his hand is swollen and continues to bother him to such an extent that we have no choice but to postpone the fight.” (By Dan Rafael ESPN.com)

Ricky Hatton – no comeback.
Former world champion Ricky Hatton has told BBC Radio Manchester that he will probably never fight again. “You can never say never, but if I was to put my last pound on it I would say ‘no, I think that’s me done,’” he said. “…I’ve been retired, if that’s what you can call it, for 16 months. I announced I was going to make a comeback and I came back off holiday and went into a training camp for three or four weeks, but it just wasn’t the same.” He added that he’s renewed his boxing license just in case he changes his mind.

A welterweight showdown between unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KO’s) and unbeaten welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) could take place on the undercard of the lightweight championship match-up between WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez vs. WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis on November 27th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob Arum’s still missing.
Bob Arum’s 49 year old lawyer son John Arum is still missing – John a well known environmentalist and experienced mountain climber was reported missing on Monday by family members.
His 78 year old father abandoned the Antonio Margarito-Manny Pacquia media tour after the first stop in Beverly Hills on Tueday. Arum and his wife Lovee, who is Arum’s third wife and not John’s mother, jetted off to Seattle to meet up with air and ground search teams in North Cascades National Park.
Now, on Wednesday, searchers have located and identified a day or “fanny” pack belonging to Arum. Four helicopters, two with infrared capabilities for detecting body heat, have been added to the search.
